Hi All Spent the last 3 days in Siem Reap which i have really enjoyed. The temples of Angkor have been the highlight. Also chilled out by a pool, visited the landmine museum and orphanage. Siem Reap is geared up for tourists so lots of westernised things here - a bar street wih great cocktails and the best ever sorbet at Blue Pumpkin bakery/restaurant. The traditional Khmer and Cambodian curries are excellent. On our first night ate at the Khmer Kitchen which apparently had Mick Jagger eating there not so long ago. I have a very funny photo of Laura & [View Full Entry]

Left our hotel in Saigon at 6am to cross the border over to cambodia in a public bus. the vietnam border is pretty simple then you get on the bus again and travel 1km through no mans land to reach the cambodia border. After paying my 20US dollars for the visa and getting everything stamped about 5 times we realised that the bus had dissapeared. luckily our tour leader was there and informed us that the bus just couldn't stay at the border and had driven 2kms away - the only way to get to it was with one of the [View Full Entry]

Yesterday was the last day of the tour for most of our new mates so we had a night out to celebrate - a really nice meal in the market followed by beer, rum and mojitos in the backpacker district. it wasn't very busy but our table made enough noise to fill the bar - singing along to the classic tunes and laughing at Ross' terrible jokes! Had quite a late one and suffering slightly today so just chilling out and doing some shopping in Saigon. it'll be an early night as we are getting a 6am bus to Phnom Penh [View Full Entry]

Arrived in Saigon very early after the sleeper train and after checking into our hotel we headed to the Cu Chi tunnels. this is a huge network of underground tunnels where the vietnamese hid and fought from during the war. the network is really extensive but the spaces are very small and claustrophobic. (and filled with bugs!! you will probably be seeing a common theme in all of my blogs about bugs!!) Also visited the War museum today which was very harrowing - so many innocent people killed and very graphic photos to show it. Tuesday was the Mekong Delta and [View Full Entry]

Hi All I'm just back from 2 days of bliss on Whale Island. Since the last time i wrote the group did a long train journey from Hoi An to Nha Trang (10 hours!!). We kept ourselves amused by creating a pub quiz for the rest of the group - Ross and I being the quizmasters - i think we did a pretty good job! We didn't get to stay in Nha Trang for long which was such a shame as it looked so much fun - definitely one of the better places to party (we still managed a quick bucket [View Full Entry]

We got a coach down to Hoi An today via Danang. Our new hotel is fantastic aswell and it has a pool!! Hoi An is a nice place and the main thing here is tailors. you can get absolutely anything made to fit here and they have copies of catalogues to make you anything or you could bring your own design. It's famous for suits but i'll not be needing a business suit for at least the next year so not bothering with that. I did get a dress, pair of cropped trousers and shorts made to measure though for a [View Full Entry]

Hi All We've now got 4 new people in our tour group for the next 2 weeks in Vietnam. Adam & Ross (20/21) from London area, Liz from Sydney (26) and Hedd (pronounced Heth) from Wales and he's 24. Got the sleeper train from hanoi to Hue (pronounce Whey not Hugh as i thought!). It was a 12 hour journey but the beds were reasonably comfortable and it had air con so had a decent kip. Hue is smaller than Hanoi so there isn't as much traffic or as many things to do. With the tour group we visited the Citadel, [View Full Entry]
