Vicki and I are back where this adventure started a little under 3 weeks ago, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). After a day that started in New York we caught Delta's 1pm service to LAX. As is the way in the USA the plane departed right on time, and was packed to the rafters, and arrived about 10 minutes early. We met Thomas a young Frenchmen who is working in a gallery in New York and was flying to LA on business and meeting with one of his artists. A very interesting man, we did have a little trouble understanding his broad French accent but apart from that a real pleasure to sit next to for the best part of 6 hours. We have just finished dinner at Gladstones, an American Seafood restaurant chain that is ... read more

Our last full day in New York means our last full day in America. To say we loved it would be a massive understatement. Everything has been how we had hoped and in many instances better. Today started off with us booking tickets to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum complex. On board the former USS Intrepid, a former WW2 air craft carrier and now home to all sorts of interesting things. The main exhibits include a Concord and the Space Shuttle Enterprise. The space shuttle is an astro nerds dream come true. To know you are within a metre of a space craft that had actually completed many missions in to space was beyond amazing. From the Intrepid museum we headed off to Macy's for Vicki to have a look and get some last ... read more

After a well deserved sleep in this morning we had a quite late start. We dropped our washing off at the local laundromat $20 for 20 odd pounds of washing, washed and folded sounded good to us. From the laundromat we walked to Central Park, three blocks away. We are staying toward the Northern end of the park and a walk down 106th Street and we were there. Central Park is equally beautiful as it is unique. This green jungle in a "concrete jungle where dreams are made of....." (I knew I could sneak the Jay Z/Alicia Keys song in here somewhere) takes you to a special place in a special place. We had lunch at Maoz, a vegetarian food stand within the park. We had a vegetarian salad with Falafal, homous and tahini with Belgian ... read more

Tonight we had dinner at an Irish Pub, O'Lunneys, on 45th Street just off Broadway in Times Square. The food was great and again we were treated to fantastic service form our Irish waitress. Following dinner we went and saw the musical Evita, starring Ricky Martin, at the Marquis Theatre part of the Marriott Hotel in Times Square. A very nice theatre but in all honesty the show was not my cup of tea, I could feel some nodding off going on particularly in the first half. Vicki certainly enjoyed the show so all was not lost. After the show we had a hot chocolate and then rode the subway home. Right throughout this part of our trip I have been mindful of our safety because of the sheer size of New York how do you ... read more

This morning we ventured out on the subway and headed to Tribeca. Enroute we stopped at a Farmers Market around the corner from City Hall. After a look around and a chat to one of the vendors selling honey we stopped off at Jerry's Diner on Chambers Street for a double shot espresso and a raisin and cinnamon bagle. After Jerrys it was off to the World Trade Centre Memorial. We had our tickets booked for 11am and arrived in plenty of time and just as well as there were plenty of people there paying their respects. After collecting your entry tickets, they are free but you are encouraged to make an on line donation, it is a 6 block walk up to the site. Following an airport type security screening you move on to a ... read more

We arrived in New York around 6:45pm last night and got a cab from LaGuardia Airport to our brownstone on Lexington Avenue. The cabby was a really cool black guy complete with a leather flat cap and chomping on his tooth pick but he knew how to get around NYC. He was pretty smooth and the traffic was fairly heavy. We remain unimpressed with airport security but all other ground services at the airport are amazing. Our brownstone is pretty basic but it does have a small kitchenette, is clean and the bed comfortable. We slept pretty well last night and despite Lexington being one of the main thoroughfares from the Bronx to Downtown it is pretty quiet. You do hear the rumble of the subway but it is not too loud, similar to distant thunder. ... read more

After a restful night sleep and a great breakfast we anxiously awaited the arrival of my cousin David, his wife Zoe and their daughter Caitlin. They rang to let us know they were running late so after taking a few photos from our room 6 floors up with uninterrupted views of the falls we finished packing and headed downstairs to wait their arrival. As we hopped off the elevator we met the three Canadians, well bumped in to and nearly walked over the top of them LOL. A warm and friendly greeting over and done with the 5 of us headed off to look at the Niagara Falls. The falls are simply stunning, on a par with the Grand Canyon for stunning beauty but they have the falls have their own uniqueness and beauty so the ... read more

Up at 5am this morning to depart San Francisco at 7:40am. You really do need to allow yourself plenty of time when checking in at US airports. The locals kind of shrug it off but all the Aussies we have met in our travels have all found it the most negative part of travelling here. I guess the consolation prize is that once you are through all the security you are travelling with a lot of peace of mind there will be no trouble enroute. The service from United was actually pretty good. We left right on time and flew in to Washington DC for a change to a smaller jet for the trip to Buffalo, NY. Both services were on time departing and arriving, the service on board was friendly enough. The negative was the ... read more

Another amazing day in San Francisco. We woke this morning to the sound of rain. The infamous San Francisco fog had rolled in and bought misty showers with it. After a late night last night and our first real hiccup with our travel plans sleep was short. When we got back from our late night last night I got today's program out and read that you needed to book a ferry and bus transfer once you got your ticket on the Wine Train confirmation. Of all things to not do, we had first class tickets on the wine train and no way of getting there as their reservations had closed. After a bit of research I found Budget have an office in downtown San Francisco so I hopped on line booked us an intermediate sized car ... read more

We have just arrived home at 10:30pm after an extended day of sightseeing in the San Francisco and Sausalito region. After breakfast at the guest house, and meeting our other residents Gordon and Claudia we caught the "munis" to Fishermans Wharf at San Francisco. After getting off at the wrong stop, about three stops early today as yesterday we were about three stops late, we ended up at Hyde Street Pier. Hyde Street Pier is still a working pier with a number of boat builders/repairers there as well as a number of older boats that are now tourist attractions. After a look around Hyde Street Pier we headed off to Sausalito by bay ferry. The ferry ride over was very comfortable and despite a history of sea sickness I felt fine. We enjoyed clam chowder for ... read more
