We had a short break from birthday celebrations and headed for Westbury near Salisbury Plain. The site looked wonderfully peaceful, lots of fishing lakes and waterfowl, however we soon found out that it was surrounded by four railway lines that operated day and night. The goods trains were particularly noisy. There were lots of great walks from the site including the climb up to the white horse, which was enormous but had been ‘preserved’ by being covered in concrete – not quite what we were expecting. One day we cycled into Devizes along the tow path, fantastic scenery and the locks were fascinating, it must take hours and hours to get a boat through them all.
