Did you know that even if it's HOT outside and you get stuck in a rainstorm without an umbrella you could still catch a cold? I didn't. I figured it would be refreshing....a break from the heat....nice and cool. It was cool al' right...it was downright COLD! My throat is scratchy. April's throat is scratchy and I have been cold since 9:30pm yesterday evening! :( However, in some weird sort of way I feel kinda connected to Alison Krauss who had to cancel her appearance at The Grand Ole Opry and several concert dates due to "losing her voice/being sick" from [View Full Entry]

Howdy from Nashville! Let me start by saying that air conditioning is an imperative part of life when it is hot out -- period. Air conditioning does just that.....conditions people to not be "purple smurfs" -- it keeps people calm, cool and collected. In the south it isn't just HOT--it is gosh, tootin, dog-gone-it, slap me silly, holy blessed crap-HOT! The humidity is a natural diuretic.....if you were pleasantly plump when you came here, and if it's the summer, you WILL leave looking like a runway model....well, maybe not....but you will lose a pound or two just from the sweat -- [View Full Entry]

What a pleasant surprise Graceland was! Our first thoughts about Graceland, prior to our arrival, was that of an obligatory visit -- you "have" to visit Graceland when in Memphis. By the time we left, I found myself saying -- I CAN'T WAIT TO GO THERE AGAIN! It was pretty spectacular. Maybe because a.) I had never been in such an opulent house before (I'm not talking mansions or museums....this was a HOUSE....a lived in house) b.) Elvis was such a HUGE personality and here I am walking through his home and c.) The decor....my oh my that decor......Elvis last decorated [View Full Entry]

There have been defining moments on our trip that just stop us in our tracks and bring BIG smiles to our face. Dining at Corky's BBQ Saturday night in Memphis, TN was one of them. Corky's has been voted the # 1 BBQ restaurant in Memphis for years. It has been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network. There we were, two northern girls sitting in Corky's, listening to oldies music, taking pictures of neon signs and enjoying THEE best BBQ we ever had. The sauce was out of this world. Seriously. We shared the BBQ chicken dinner and it [View Full Entry]

I turned 29 yesterday in New Orleans' French Quarter.....29.....wow.....one more year and I will be.....30....oh my! You know, something I don't do too often is sit back and think of all I have accomplished in my 29 years of life. It is usually what I HAVEN'T done yet, but as I sit here at 8:55am June 4th I am pretty amazed at "where I am" both physically and mentally. This Wednesday will mark 5 weeks on the road. How amazing is that? FIVE WEEKS and out of all that time we had one complete down day where we didn't go out [View Full Entry]

New Orleans is a feast for the senses! That really sums it up. April and I have been in New Orleans for 2 full days and have already seen and done so much and yet sooooo much still remains unseen. There are many things I love about New Orleans. The history and overall "spooky" feeling. The buildings. The gas lamps and flicker lights. The French Quarter. Shop after shop. Restaurant after restaurant. Nightclub after nightclub. The beautiful homes that line St. Charles Ave in the Garden District. The Southern hospitality that greets you (just about) every where you go. The different [View Full Entry]

Good Mornin' from New Orelans! Wow, we are actually here. We are in New Orleans. Blocks away from the French Quarter. Steps away from Emeril's..and..too close for comfort to some spooky looking warehouses! LOL! It is 11:35am and I am looking out the window of our room (Marriott Residence Inn -- $49 a night travel agent rate -- yeah baby), and listening to the faint sounds of Cajun music. It is coming from close by, but not sure where. The sun is shining, however there are dark clouds to the left....it has that "thunderstorm" on the horizon look, which I love. [View Full Entry]

Hello from Destin's Barnes & Nobles coffe shop! I haven't written in a while so I will try and recap the last two days. We left off Saturday morning. April and I ended up heading to Destin Commons, once again we WERE going to rent a Pontoon boat, but the water was still a brownish color, so we decided to wait. We headed out around noon and went to lunch at The Hard Rock Cafe. This one is really nice. Not too big and lots of retro 80's music. The staff is also eclectic and down to earth. I ordered my [View Full Entry]
