Geo: 42.3316, -83.0478With the Mustangs on the car hauler and work on our rental house done, we were free to have some fun. Our friend Jim joined Kim and I and we went down town Detroit. A drive around Belle Isle then off to Grand Trunk Pub for a pint of some great Michigan craft beer. When we left Grand Trunk Pub we headed over to the Guardian Building (http://guardianbuilding.com/home.asp) This is the iconic art deco sky scraper of Detroit. It is just as amazing today as it was the day it was built. We then headed over to Honest John's for some dinner and off to see the Tigers play. They did not win but it was still great to be there and see them play.... read more

North America » United States » Michigan » Plymouth June 3rd 2012

Geo: 42.3714, -83.4703While in Michigan, Kim and I decided to have our Mustangs shipped to San Diego. They had been in storage for almost 5 years and we did not know what to expect. We had 24 hours to get both cars out of storage and get them running. Kim's father Tom and our friend Jim joined us for the car preparations. Kim's '72 Mach 1 needed a new fuel pump and some trans fluid. With fresh oil and gas both cars were soon running. The next day the car hauler showed up and our cars were on their way to San Diego.... read more

North America » United States » California » Banning April 23rd 2012

Geo: 33.9256, -116.876Kim, Lily and I drove to Banning to go see my Mom and her husband, Richard. We set out from San Diego and our first stop was in Carlsbad to see the Renunculus fields. It reminded us of a small version of the tulip fields in The Netherlands. As we drove closer and closer to Banning the warmer it got. Even Lily, who loves the heat, was panting and looking warm. We arrived at my Moms to a warm welcome and a great meal. We enjoyed the evening sunset with a glass of beer and some great conversation. The next morning we had breakfast then my Mom and Richard took us out to see Banning and the amazing views of the area. We went back to there place where we had a Detroit Lunch. ... read more

Geo: 50.0924, 8.68195We rolled into the Frankfurt main train station in the late afternoon and took the trolley a few stops to find our rented apartment. After climbing the five flights of stairs (Glad we don't smoke any more) we got to our apartment. The owner gave us a tip of a local restaurant that has great German food. We walked a few blocks to Pielok for a great meal. Kim could not eat all her Jaeger Schnitzel so we took it home and had it for breakfast the next morning. Easter Sunday we went for a walk around Frankfurt. We headed over to the Domplatz area. This area is where the Frankfurt Cathedral, plaza and market areas are near the Main River. We walked around the markets and then over the EisemerSteg bridge to go ... read more

Geo: 50.8371, 4.36761We woke up early at Case de Gadd's and made our way to the Ramsgate train station to catch the 7 am train to Ashford. From Ashford we we took the Euro star train to Brussels. We got off the train, put our luggage in a locker and tried to get a cab. We wanted to go to Moeder Lambic pub for a few beers and lunch. We could not get a cab and could not figure out why. We made our way down to the metro. We bought our tickets and when we got down to the platform there was an announcement that due to a strike there would be no more subway trains running. Back up we went and started walking. We made it there with time to have a light lunch ... read more
