The Ambassador - Daniel Nicholas Stephenson

Daniel Nicholas Stephenson Dan suffers from OCD. His latest compulsion is to "complete" all the countries in the Europe before 2010. With this in mind, and finding himself in a post-job situation (or unemployment as some people like to call it); he thought it would be timely to tick off 7 countries from the list in approx 12 days. Rather perversely for a person with no income he chose to start the quest in the most expensive section of Europe - Scandinavia......

Tallinn 5th to 8th October On arrival at Tallinn airport, I decided it best to get a taxi from the airport as i did not fancy a magical mystery tour of the surroundings. This proved to be wise as my hostel was tucked away in a series of medieval passages that I would never have found in the dark! On this occassion I had opted for a private room in the hostel and this was nice given that I had to be considerate to other people in my previous destinations! I did not waste any time leaving the hostel to sample [View Full Entry]

Oslo: 3-4 October I am currently sat at a compter terminal where a hammer is required to get the keys to respond, therefore my entry for Oslo will have to be retrospective from Stockholm, 'till then, Dan. [View Full Entry]

Stockholm: 4-5 October 2007 Stockholm is a very slick place, everything is efficient and clean - a bit like Germany but without the war-mongering! Arrived at Arlanda airport at about 9pm and got a train to the city centre. As soon as I left the station, I knew I was going to like the place, strips of bars abounded and very friendly people started chatting to me almost immediately. Speaking of which, the moment I opened the door to my 8-person dorm at the hostel, I was confronted by a crazy German bloke brandishing a bottle of Absolut vodka. He persuaded [View Full Entry]

Oslo Continued....

 Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
Now that I have a fully operational keyboard (albeit with Swedish punctuation) I thought it would be timely to pen a few notes about my trip to Oslo. The first observation has to be that Ryan Air is bloody economical with the truth about their Norway airport being called Oslo Torp. It is actually 125km from Oslo, a sort of more extreme version of London Luton! This required me to take a 1hr 45 min bus journey to Oslo City Centre. I arrived at the central bus station in pitch black and with only limited directions from the hostel. Needless to [View Full Entry]
