Indian railway history dates back more than 100 years when the British first introduced the steam train in 1853 between Bombay and Thana. Since then Indian railways have come a long way. The vast network is divided and managed by 6 major dvisions such as Southern railway for south, Northeastern railway and so on. Almost all the nooks and corners of India can be reached by rail. For such a vast country that is a major achievement indeed. On top of that India manufactures all its carriages and engines indegenously, nothing is imported. As a result Indian railways is the largest employer in the world have more than 1.6 million employees(1,600,000 people) ! That's a mind boggling stuff.
