St Goar Europe » Netherlands
The following day we headed northward towards the old town of St Goar. On the way we had a lovely pork roll dinner with veggies - my second best meal yet!! Then on arriving at St Goar we saw the worlds largest working Cuckoo Clock which is hand carved by woof from the Black Forest and is in the Guinness book of records at 3.5m in height! I wanted to buy one but they were very expensive. So tempting as they were soooo cute but my bag is heavy enough at this stage and I'm still trying to figure out how [View Full Entry]

We made our way from Munich along to Va duz, the capital of Liechtenstein, I’d never even heard of Liechtenstein until going on this tour! It’s a very very small country. It was named after the Liechtenstein family who bought all the land here many years ago and is still run by them today. There was an Orchestra playing a concert in the main part of the town. We got lunch at a little café - a hamburger which was delivered without a bun… we are guessing it was the low carb option!!! We continued along a very picturesque route with [View Full Entry]

A Stein or Two! Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich
After we left the Concentration Camp this morning the pace changed and we drove past the place where the Sound of Music was filmed. It’s after 1.30pm and the fog’s still down over the ills, it’s very green and picturesque here. We went onto the Swarovski Crystal Show room where I bought a nice necklace. One we arrived in Munich itself we checked into our accommodation and ended up going to the Hofbrauhaus - the most famous beer hall in the World!! It’s massive!! It has live traditional music and there are a few people who choose to walk around in [View Full Entry]

Concentration Camp.... Europe » Austria
Hi I haven't had time to write many journals since i have started my European Tour, but thought I would add this one out of order, sorry it's a bit depressing but it certainly left an impression on all those present.... Well we have arrived safe and sound in Munich.... Today we talked about Adolph Hitler and saw some of the effects that he had. Let me start by telling you a bit about him... Adolph Hitler was born in Austria to his parents who were actually cousins....He had 6 brothers and sisters but all died bar 1, who was retarded. [View Full Entry]

The Home of Schnapps Europe » Austria » Vienna State » Vienna
The scenery has changed a lot since crossing into Austria. Reminds me of the west coast of Canada somewhat, with the massive hills and blue water. The service stop we went to was regarded as the best service stop in Europe and damn was it good!!!! Pork with crackle, creamy potatoes and veggies - all just like your Grandma made it!!! Had the drink they suggested which just tastes like fizzy apple juice. It’s called Armadoodela or something equally as dodgy…I’m happy to be here where it’s the home of the schnitzel and meat and potatoes!! We arrived at our hotel [View Full Entry]

Venetian Pigeons... Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
Got up early to make it to breakfast and to watch us coming into the port of Venice which was very beautiful. We were all happy to get off the boat and cheered when we saw Ryan drive our faithful Contiki bus off the ship. Our Tour Manager made an announcement on the bus and said that there had been rumours on the boat that it wasn’t the right boat, but it was and that if we have issues we should come to him and he will tell us the truth, even though he said people would say he wouldn’t… it [View Full Entry]

The Refugee Boat.... Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
Had to get up at some ungodly hour to do a city tour. We went to the Acropolis first (which literally means the highest point) where we had a local guide. She explained that the Pantheon was naturally fortified by its location. It was built in the 5th century BC. It took 9 years to build, which they did using marble blocks from the mountain 45km away, it would have been a mammoth task! They have been restoring it for the past 500 years. In the restoring process many years ago they made a terrible mistake and instead of using steel [View Full Entry]

We had to get up really early, like 4.30am for our early departure to head to Mykonos… One of the boys had to sit through the entire breakfast dressed as a girl to for fill his coach dare!! He looked so funny and wasn’t happy about it! We lost one of the guys from NZ, who was on our tour… he went missing last night and we had to leave without him… We all think that he was on some sort of medication that he’d stopped taking as he’d been getting worse for days… That’s the second guy from NZ that [View Full Entry]

It has been rumoured that there were no beds on the Andriatic ferry, but it wasn’t true, the ferry was excellent. Our rooms were clean and neat. We had dinner in the Al a carte restaurant, I had prawns and linguini and it was to die for!! We spent the next 19hrs on the ferry. Everything was on there, poker machines, deadly expensive internet, bars, discos, cafes etc. I decided to all it a night fairly early though. The next morning before getting off the ferry I watched the dolphins swimming beside the ship, it was really nice. Art can barely [View Full Entry]

The Beautiful Isle of Capri Europe » Italy
We took a ferry across to the Isle of Capri - it only took one hour or so, there weren’t enough seats so we laid on the deck and soaked up some sun… We then boarded another boat and headed off to see the Blue Grotto - it’s insane, you pay €8.50 and you get into a row boat from the motor boat we were in, with three other people and you lay completely down and at the right second between the surges you get pushed through the small hole in the rock face into the blue grotto. We watched several [View Full Entry]
