Wow! Cambodia is a fascinating place! It is markedly poorer is many respects to Vietnam. Driving across the boarder and passing through towns with kids begging who have no shoes or clothes is really shocking to see. There really is a short -term attitude here to the future after the Khmer Rouge, people empty there bins straight out into the street on there own doorsteps so there is rubbish everywhere even in the rice paddies. Saying that, Phnom Penh is a great place to visit with so much recent history! Lots of the things we did revolved around torture and death [View Full Entry]

Dalat Asia » Vietnam » Central Highlands » Da Lat
Dalat is the swiss alps of vietnam. It much cooler weather and there are loads of swiss looking log houses. We only spent 1 full day here so we did a motorbike tour called 'Easy Rider'. Basically you sit on the back of a massive motorbike and they drive you around all the sites. We saw this random crazy house which is still being built, the rooms are supposed to resemble Gaudi, it was really random!! Then we saw some waterfalls and pretty lakes from a cable car. The coolest thing we did was going to a minoroty village. We sat [View Full Entry]

Saigon is the capital of the South. Its a really cool city and sort of feels more western than Hanoi. We only spent a couple of days here as we are excited about going to Cambodia. We went to a cool war museum which has loads of famous pictures of the war, it was really quite gruesome. Then today we went to cu chi tunnels which were used by the viet cong to fight the americans. They were really tiny and me and steve were the only wetern people not too fat to fit in!! You had to crawl on your [View Full Entry]

Quick, where's the lid!

Nha trang is a cute little beach town. It's not the most prettty beach in the world but as long as you dont stay out too late in the evening its a really fun place! We have relaxed on the beach, been parasailing together (i've got 2 giant bruises to prove it! It looks like steve has been beating me black and blue) and tried diving for the first time! Steve absolutely loved the diving!! He is really keen to learn for himself! I have a cold and so it was a bit painful on my ears, it's so spooky breathing [View Full Entry]

Hoi An is a small market town on the coast of Vietnam. It is full of shops who make really cheap clothes and shoes from scratch in 24 hours. The streets are really pretty and we have just been relaxing really. We havent bought any clothes coz we cant carry anything else! On the negative side there are tons of massive rats running the streets here which is a bit yukky! Tonight we take the bus to Nha Trang to go to the beach, HURRAY!! [View Full Entry]

Hue Asia » Vietnam » North Central Coast » Hué
We arrived in Hue after the night bus which was an experience! We had 2 vietnamese guys without tickets lying inbetween us - very dodgy!! We visited the citadel which is like the main sight with a big wall around it, and today we went to see some tunnels where people used to live during the Vietnam war, very creepy, we walked through the tunnels, I fitted but steve had to duck!! Tommorrow we are heading to Hoi An, hopefully the bus will be less crowded!! [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Vietnam after being told we would have to pay for a medical at the boarder!! We managed to escape that one thank god!! Hanoi is a really great city, there are 2 million motorbikes on the road and its really crazy but really cool to! We have been to the Hanoi Hilton where John Mccain was held prisoner, to see Ho Chi min's body and palace and to a really cool army museum covering the french and american wars. This morning we got up early to jog round the lake in the old town where we are staying [View Full Entry]

Yangshuo Asia » China » Guangxi » Yangshuo
Yangshuo is a really great place to go in the middle of the countryside. There was no phone or internet and we spent a few days cycling around the rice fields, walking around and reading our books. We also took a chinese cookery class which was really good fun! We got to eat the results! We also mananged to avoid the dog section of the market, they eat dogs in this part of china, they are all the same breed and you see loads wandering around. The scenery is amazing, really green and our first real taste of insects, we now [View Full Entry]

Guilin Asia » China » Guangxi » Guilin
We left Macau and travelled by bus to Shenzhen back into China. We had to stay in Shenzhen over night as we had train tickets for the next night (visa error!). Shenzhen is another massive Chinese city but we actually quite liked it and had some really yumy food there. We arrived into Guilin from the night train (the guy in our carriage was the worlds worst snorer!) and visited the park and caves there despite the pouring rain. In the evening we went to our first chinese night club, really weird with a mix of eastern and western music, they [View Full Entry]

Macau Asia » Macau » Macau
Macau is really great! There is loads of Portugese arcitecture and churches and then at night you can visit the Las Vegas style casinos! We had loads of fun making 2 pounds last 2 evenings in the slot machines drinking the free tea and coffee! The weather was appauling, it was chucking it down everyday and most of the streets were flooded. Appart from the taxi drivers we really had a great time here and can really recommend a visit. (taxi drivers keep driving round the block and think you wont notice even though you are still outside the casino where [View Full Entry]
