Wow!! Delhi is absolutely mental! There is so many touts everywhere and the traffic is like nothing I have ever seen..The cars and rickshaws, motorbikes and horses just go where they want and its all gridlocked and car horns. The cars are all old morris minor types, its like stepping back 50 years! There is essentially no water or sanitation for 2/3rds of the city with lots of people living in shanty towns. It really is the poorest place I have ever seen, its what I imagine large parts of Africa to look like during a famine but with gridlokced traffic!! [View Full Entry]

Singapore is a really strange country but at least we were one step closer to India!! It seems to be a country full of chinese and middle class english people...As we only had one day we decided to get up early to fit in as much as possible. We got bored of waiting for the Indian embassy to give us a visa and we had missed our flight to Delhi on Sunday because of them so we decided to head out for the weekend for some fun!! Wow!!! What an amazing time we just had!! Thankgod me and Steve were there to help out the team with our tried and tested DIY skills! Somehow we managed to help build a release site for rehabilitated orangutans in the middle of the forest...It was really hard work, we both found out that we are not particularly gifted at sawing, chiseling, hammering, cementing, making ceilings, making furniture, painitng etc etc.. but the buidling went up! We arrived in KL and the city is really great. Its quite small but has everything you could need. There are more shops here then people right across the whole price range! Shopping seems to be the main SE Asian pass time. There is tons of stuff to see here and its really hard to know where to begin. We arrived in the early evening so we decided to chack out the Malaysian equivalent of the London eye which is in a park near where we are staying. We took the not so luxurious Thai train to Butterworth and then a ferry across to an island off the West coast of Malaysia called Penang. It is not the most beautiful of places but the main reason for going was to get our visa for Indonesia! We stayed in Little India (like Tooting only more Indian!) which was really ace. There was loads of yummy food at unbelievably cheap prices and this yummy sweet coffee sold on every street corner. We headed from Koh Tao via catamaran looking for a beautiful beach for a bit of R&R! We decided to take a boat taxi to a remote beach called Haad Khaud or Bottle beach. We weren't disappointed..It was absolutely amazing here. Really quiet and secluded, exactly what we wanted. We secured a beach hut on the 2nd night and instead of staying 3 days spent 10 days - whoops!! It was so difficult to move from our hammock. Steve made it back from the Thai boxing a bit wore for wear but he loved it!! Maybe he's thinking of a career change?? We took the night train and boat to Ko tao. The trains here are not really in the same league as Japan and china but we survuved the journey. The catamaran was the worst bit, loads of people puking as it was really choppy! We got to Bangkok and we love it here! Steve has all his stuff packed and is ready to move in! He has gone to the Thai boxing tonight with an American called Mike but I decided against it and went for a girly manicure and pedicure instead!! There are loads of Temples and stuff but its also a really modern city, and its great getting around because taxis are actually cheaper than public transport and there are millions of them!! Siem Reap feels like a really western town and its much more westernised than Phnom Penh. We have spent the last 3 days looking round loads of temples obviously including the amazing Angkor Wat. There are loads of temples and until you arrive you don''t realise how spread out they all are.. They are all different but the size of Angkor is massive and the view is amazing especially at sunrise.
