Half ten felt like a fantastic sleep in until we checked the guidebook and found out that the museum we wanted to visit shut at two. We asked a guy working at the hostel how to get there and he didn't really know so we stood and waited at a bus stop for awhile until we figured we wouldn't have enough time there. Our plans had evolved mainly around the museum so we didn't really know what to do. We began by walking up to the centre and it felt a lot more lively than yesterday. There was a stage errected [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Belgrade at pretty much six in the morning. The journey was terrible and worsened by the fact that what was a dribbly nose turned into a full blown cold. We had the name of a hostel written down called New Morning hostel which said on the website that it had a twenty four hour reception. We stood outside the main entrance knocking and ringing the bell for about half an hour until we gave in. Our next choice was over the other side of the town so we walked through the deserted centre to get there. Lonely Planet [View Full Entry]

he thought of breakfast wasn't enticing enough to get us out of bed willingly however our checkout time was 10am so an early start it was. Breakfast was eggs with bread which was o.k, but Rob had most of mine. Due to our early start we had plenty of time to get to the history museum. We walked past an information board that said that the temperature was -5°c which we definitely felt. On the way we stopped for a quick detour around the outdoor market. This was the site where two shells hit and 68 killed and a further 200 [View Full Entry]

We were not sure when we woke up whether our city tour was to go ahead or not. At breakfast the two guys from New Zealand (Dubrovnik bus, Mostar, restaurant etc) were on the table adjacent to us and in chatting we discovered they had also signed up for the tour. Breakfast was chicken soup for Rob and chickenless soup for me. If soup wasn't weird enough we also both had a little pot of rice pudding. The tour was run by Mustafa, the guy that picked us up from the station yesterday. He introduced himself and told us a little [View Full Entry]

We were offered tea/coffee when we got up and I foolishly accepted. I asked for black tea so she went to have a look. Steph watched as she brought the water to boil on the stove and then threw in a selection of herbs like a wicked witch. The tea (which came with biscuits) of course was not English tea nor was it even Indian tea, in fact it was quite yellow and tasted dreadful. Being polite, I drank it until she left the room and then I tipped it down the sink and had biscuits for breakfast. From the hostel [View Full Entry]

Rob left the heating on 30°C all night so we both woke up pretty warm. Neither of us wanted to go back to old town so instead we walked into a part of the new town called Lapad. We bought some stamps so that we could get our postcards sent off and then we were stuck for something to do. We both discussed the possibility of getting something to eat and began to search for somewhere. It was only when we found a pleasant Italian that we discussed with each other that we weren't hungry. After this we headed to a [View Full Entry]

Our bus to Dubrovnik left Kotor at eight thirty and surprisingly we managed to get up for it. The bus was comfortable enough but we had a little bit of agro at the border. At the checkpoint to leave Montenegro there was a general shout down the bus, we heard something "Anglaiski" and we were beckoned off the bus. We were told to get our backpacks and follow the border guard into a room. They asked us where we had come from, where we were going and purpose of visit (as if our backpacks and stamps in our passports didn't spell [View Full Entry]

We succeeded in getting out of bed rather early this morning and rewarded ourselves with the pastry we bought last night for breakfast. We didn't linger long because it was so damn cold. In a very responsible manner we got bus times in preparation for our onward journey. We think we will have to stay here tonight because the buses run early mornings. As we were leaving the station we bumped into our host Marco and okayed the extra night with him. We knew from Marco that there was a way up to the panorama next to our room but from [View Full Entry]

We managed to drag ourselves out of bed this morning only with the promise of our included breakfast. Despite knowing full well that hotel breakfast are always disappointing we still had high hopes. We got a cup of tea and an omlette that was swimming in grease. I couldn't stomach mine so early in the morning so Rob had mine as well. We sat and waited for the plate of cheese/meat to come that we had seen other people eating but it never did. We eventually figured out that it was either or but not both. Utterly disappointed we left to [View Full Entry]

We are getting quite good at getting up when circumstances require it. We left the hotel and all too easily found the correct bus to Shkroder despite the numerous spellings of the name. The journey was forty minutes shorter than expected and we arrived in Shkoder prepared for a struggle. As we stepped off our minibus we were instantaneously confronted by a guy asking if we were heading to Ulcinj. He gave us a reasonable price and we followed him towards his minibus (or so we thought.) He stopped at an old fashioned Mercedes and we looked at each other, shrugged [View Full Entry]
