We were both up nice and early again, there really must be something wrong with us. We pocketed a Couple of the chocolate croissants from breakfast for our lunch. We had planned to visit Montjuic via a cable car over the harbour but we discovered the price and changed our minds. The cable car station was situated next to a fairly nice beach, so we stopped there for a while instead. Guess what, being in a dorm with other people sucks, especially when the other people are French. Even though we were fast asleep in bed,the French kids thought it was entirely appropriate to continue their evening inside the dorm even at four in the morning. We would have reciprocated this morning when we got up at eight, but there was another couple still sleeping. Rob had decided that he needed more eating time For breakfast so we got up at half nine. It turns out we should be up earlier still tomorrow morning. Breakfast is only served till ten, so we got up at half nine to catch the end of it. The common room was chaos when we entered but a member of staff informed us that the general gist was to grab a plate and eat as much as possible. We got yoghurt, toast, croissants, fruit, cereal etc. We decided that a tourist information would be a good idea so that we could get maps and information about attractions. We woke up before the alarm went off, not because of our immense excitement But because of my cold that kept me awake most of the night. I was pretty much packed but Rob still had bits to do with the electronics so I left him to it and pottered around downstairs instead. In my usual fashion I spent a while checking and rechecking packing lists and ensured Rob had a constant countdown of the time left. We woke when the alarm went off and I couldn't doze off again because of my blocked nose so I made sure Rob got up with me. We had breakfast out of our leftover foods from the earlier shop. After a luxurious sleep in and a fairly ok breakfast we set off for our day around Budapest around noon. We used our travel passes to get us to the city park where we had a brief look around. The Szechenyi thermal baths are right next to the metro stop so we went in and sussed out the prices etc for our visit tomorrow. In the ground around the baths there is steam coming out of the drains which add an eerie effect to a wintery park with snow laying on the ground. I am writing this a month or so after the actual day, so again you'll have to excuse me on the vagueness of my details. I remember waking up massively dehydrated and struggling to figure out why until Rob pointed out that we had tried about fifty bottles of wines less than twelve hours earlier. Ok I am writing this diary entry a long time after the day with only prompts to guide me, so whilst it may sound a bit vague this is what we did. The Communist monument park is mentioned in every guidebook and in every tourist information about the city. We had seen posters advertising organised tours there with various companies but being stingy buggers we decided it'd be much cheaper to make our own way there. I wouldn't exactly say that we got up late, however once we were up and dressed we headed over to a restaurant in Buda called Eden for lunch. It had come highly recommended by a girl from our hostel and we were both wanting something wholesome to eat. We got there and found it to be more of a cafe with a selection of foods in hot trays, however the food was tasty and the staff translated everything for us so we could make the best choice.
