So.. Here we go then. Little me, Sally T off on an adventure - a one way ticket to New Zealand with hopes and plans for countries far and wide. I plan to update this here 'Blog' with my tales and give you some insight into what I've been up too so you can calm your worries (mother) or just sit back and imagine the sights I've described and feel like you're here with me (I wish).

This blog is instead of those nightmare 'group emails'... it will allow you to read up on my whereabouts at your own wish, rather than me forcing it upon your inbox! I'll be sending some personal emails out also... but please PLEASE feel free to email me with your own adventures in the meantime.

Love to all!

South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » La Paz April 20th 2010

Bolivia was like stepping back into Indian mentality... the cost of living, the traditions, the change in culture, countryside, the change in food.... the dreaded stomach cramps, no longer Delhi Belly but Boli Belly! I found myself wowed by the womens attire, the bowler hats, the plaits and colourful skirts. I found myself trying to starve the bug out of my tummy after the salt flats and craving some good ole mummy t cooked food.... I have most certainly had enough of being ill! We took a gruelling bus journey to Sucre the day after... my stomach giving me jip the whole way and the journey itself long and tiring, but we were more prepared for this one. We had water and money! We finally made it to sucre late that night after a mix up ... read more

Firstly I would like to apologise for the complete lack of Blogs.... what can I say, the travelling life has been fast paced and fun filled and hasn't allowed me much time to sit on a computer and write out what I have been doing. But alas I shall try to fit in some stories as I go from here on in... to the end!!! Yes 5 weeks people to this day and I shall be on home turf.... exciting times that brings upon a wave of happiness and a cheshire cat smile! At this rate I will be writing blog entries once I'm home, but in a way that might be quite nice for me to re-live my adventures. I will strive to knock them out in the coming weeks... but for now, know that ... read more

We arrived at the Bolivian border at a fresh and chilly 7am on the 31st March... as soon as we stepped off the bus we ripped open our bags to throw on several more layers, socks and shoes... and the cold still shocked us into quivering morning zombies. With the look of startled rabbits we got our Argentinian exit stamps and had the joy of a brand new Bolivian stamp! Bolivia.... we had made it! But quickly got caught up in the Bolivian Border chaos of how to get to the next destination- Villazon was no place to hang around. Tessa changed up her last Peso's which magically came to the exact amount of money needed for the four of us to get onto a bus to Uyuni! 'Perfect' we thought and so hurried around getting ... read more

From Sao pàulo we took an overnight bus up to the Brasilian border where we were to cross over into Argentina!! Thankfully Tessa spoke brilliant Spanish which made being moved from one bus to another alot easier- one bus from bus station to the brasilian border, one bus between borders and then the final bus from the Argentine border to Iguazù! Thats's a lot of buses, but with another stamp in our passports, Argentinian money withdrawn, buses boooked down to Buenos Aires and the excitement of being in another country, the number of buses and the fact the rain bucketed it down didn't seem to matter! Anna and I arrived at the hostel at 9.30am and sneaked in the free breakfast before checking in and sitting out the rain ALL DAY with a film and reading ... read more

First and foremost... apologies for the lateness in this blog, but it gives you a good idea of the crazy fun times I'm hvaing already in South America... I actually write this from Buenos Aires in Argentina, so you will hopefully soon have a more updated blog to read... but for now, let's go back a few weeks to sunny Brasil! We arrived in Sao Paulo, Brasil late friday night (12th feb) after an epic movie marathon flight over from India. Both tired we somehow made it to our hostel in town in a taxi speaking no portugese and at this point little english. On waking we soon faced the reality of not speaking the native language and the complete and utter change of location, culture and way of living- so very far away from India! ... read more

We spent our last week up in the Himalayan mountains of McCloud Ganj... It was cold, oh so very cold! It was wear 4 layers in the day cold, hat and gloves cold, fully clothed under sleeping bag and 4 blankets cold at night time cold! So cold in fact that our last day there it snowed.... snow in India! Who would of thought! Unfortunately for us the weather wasn't on our side whilst we were there and it rained the entire 4 days, snowing on the last! The first day we arrived the sun did shine but I was ill and recovering from another bout of stomach sickness after my mass feast at the golden temple, so spent the sunny afternoon wrapped up in bed! The town itself is beautiful - quiet and peaceful in ... read more

From haridwar our spiritual journey went further north, a 7 hour train journey later and the restraint not to yell at the screaming OCD child behind who insisted on kicking my seat as she cried later... we arrived In Amritsar late Sunday evening and checked into a hotel for the night. We were treated to a TV, but no English channels and so spent the evening watching the Star Screen Awards here in India... normally we would of switched straight off, but who's face kept on propping up as he won two awards? Only our Big in Bollywood friend Omi!!! He really has made it and we screamed his name like two adoring fans every time we saw his face... what he was saying we have no idea, but it was Omi making it really big ... read more

Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Haridwar February 10th 2010

From the bright bustling lights of Delhi we worked our way up to Haridwar, a holy town in Utterakhand. In Hindi, Haridwar stands for' Dwar of Hari' or ' Gateway to God' and is regarded as one of the seven holiest places to Hindus. According to Hindu scriptures, Haridwar is one among the four sites where drops of the "elixir of immortality, Amrit, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher, in which it was being carried away by the celestial bird Garuda, after the Samudra manthan". The place itself... a bit of a hole to be honest, it's like stepping back in time and then you take 10 steps back in Indian time, that is where Haridwar operates from. There is about two computers in the whole town and the internet is slower then most of the ... read more

The sleeper bus rolled into Agra at 7am... i rolled off weary eyed, cold and not up for the "in your face" tactics by the dozen rickshaw drivers waiting for your service. I managed to get a relatively cheap rickshaw and got a Korean girl to join me over to the Taj, she'd only been in India a week and was a little shocked by my blunt and brash tactics on getting a cheap ride! Once we'd checked our bags into the cloakroom we were made to pay the 750 rupee ticket to get into the Taj (Indians pay 20 rupees... a bit of a unjust kick to the wallet!) Then we had to go through the security where we were patted down, bag searched... Digestive biscuits and a jar of marmite not allowed to join ... read more

Pushkar.... "Brahma dropped a lotus flower on the earth and Pushkar floated to the surface", or so the stories say..... The small hindu Pilgrimage town is a serene oasis of shops, temples and holy men. The town is built around the "Magically Magnetic" lake.... but due to 'refurbishments' there was no lake for me to be drawn too... although the empty hole left was still pretty spectatcular! The ghats surrounding drawing everyone in with their spiritual air, temples line the steps and the array of different rooftops, domes, spires and hilltops decorate the bright blue sky line. This is Pushkar! I arrived midday on the Sunday after a long and early train journey from Udaipur... thankfully I had a couple of Brits to keep me entertained, the volume of their london accents also stirred the rest ... read more
