Getting near to the end of our holiday ....aaaaw, don't want to go back to work etc. just yet! However, today is a good day ...off to Movieworld! Today Bruce picked us up and were there when the gates opened at 10am. The first thing you see when you enter under the archway is Batwing ..kinda reverse of the Giant Drop. You sit in seats at the bottom of the tower (not as high as Giant Drop) and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 .....UUUUUPPPP you go whoooooosh! Wow, I can cope with that, kinda scary (scream every time lol), but fun and on the way down you get kinda bounced down in stages. I then got persuaded to go on the Superman ride ....I saw the track so I really don't know why I was persuaded, ... read more
Another theme park to visit today ....Seaworld. I think this was the 'tamest' of the three we visited! We used the local public transport again ...very clean, timely service. Met up with Bruce at Seaworld ..he has a ticket where he can go as many times as he likes in a year ...fun! Lots of sealife (surprisingly enough!)...watched a seal show, saw sharks and cute polar bears, even touched stingrays (except they didn't sting)...the rays felt soft and squishy but not slimey...quite surprising. The boys rode the rides today...roller coaster, jetski ride but not me today...I was content to watch and be the person who held all the belongings while they went on the rides! A nice park but nowhere near as thrilling as Dreamworld. Left around 4pm with only a short bus ride back to ... read more
Well, after a wonderful day at Dreamworld yesterday, it was time to relax a little. Just a spot of retail therapy at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, followed by lunch back at the apartment, a dip in the rooftop pool, reading books.....aaaaah! Bruce came over and we headed over to the nearby park where we watched the resident flying fox colony awaken after a hard day's sleeping. Lots of noise, pungent odour and yeah ....dodging of poops!! Tonight was the one and only dinner cooked at the apartment ...yummmm! An evening soak in the spa with Bruce leaving at 8.30pm as his work means he has to awaken at 4.30am! ... read more
Well wadaya know, annnnother sunny day! Used the wonderful public transport system to get to Dreamworld....very easy AUS$8.30 return each. Had an awesum day ....log flume rapids....got soaked, Tower of Terror ...terrorised, James went on the Claw and Wipeout countless times and the piece de la resistance ....we braved the Giant Drop (yes, I have photographic evidence!)....what can I say except SH*****T (sorry for the bad word ...which is what I said allllll the way down. For anyone who does not know what the Giant Drop is, just google it! You sit in a nice, comfy seat along with 7 other suckers and then you are propelled slowly up the side of a very high tower kinda like an open air lift and then you stop right at the top with the wind whistling around you....for ... read more
To the bush we went ...Bruce took us and we went up, up, round, round, up, up and round a bit more until eventually we reach the top! Did an awesum treetop walk, shinned up a tree ...straight up a ladder and only 3 people allowed at a time ....eeeeek! I got half way up the first ladder and had to self-talk positively or else I would have come back down again! Lovely view from the top ....scary view down. Checked out the Botanical Garden area and then had lunch at the cafe. Went on a bush walk ...about an hour...didn't see any koala but did see some droppings and fur lol. Saw two dead kangaroos on the way up the mountain and one live one on the way down. Back to our apartment for a ... read more
Another sunny day dawned ....strettttch, what a way to live! Decided to walk to Surfers along the beach today ...lovely walk but didn't like Surfers ...too many people !! Met Bruce and walked to his apartment (27th floor with beach views) and had lunch at his place. Headed off to see Pelicans being fed by a fish & chip owner who feeds fish heads etc to the pelicans every day at 1.30pm. Fascinating. Walked to the lighthouse at the end of the Spit and then had an ice cream. Bruce had to go to work ...oh dear ...we caught a bus back to Broadbeach to relax.... read more
Woke at 6am with daylight breaking. Spur of the moment idea ...dressed and put my sunhat on to cover my bedhair (!) and walked down to the beach to watch the sun rise. Stunning, as you will see from the photos. Sand was cold to walk on though ...brrr! Back to the apartment building and went up to the top floor (34th) for a soak in the spa pool at 6.45 am ...how crazy is that?! Met Bruce for lunch and planned out our days for the rest of the holiday. Off to the movies in the early evening ...saw District 9 ...a cool movie.... read more
First full day in Gold Coast ...sun, beautiful warm sun ! Bruce picked us up and we went to the Outlet Shopping Mall but didn't find anything we liked. Headed back to the apartment for lunch and Bruce went off to work. Went to Pacific Fair and were successful in our shopping expedition this time. Home for dinner and relaxed watching a film on TV ....Rogue, all about a giant crocodile eating tourists! Hmmm, crossed that idea off the things to do list!!... read more
After the big build-up, Christmas Day dawned ...beautiful and sunny ...and then a short shower and some cloud! Mostly sunny for the rest of the day. James is now stationed up in Whangarei, living back at home with Michael and Laura came up from Auckland on Christmas Eve on the bus so we were all in Whangarei for Christmas. Breakfast at my place - after Amy requesting an 8am start, young Rylee decided to have a sleep-in today and delayed our start until around 9am! Cooked breakfast, laughter, lollies, presents, more laughter, some games on the Playstation and gosh the morning was over! At 12.30pm we all bundled into cars and headed for Robyn & Leigh's place for a family lunch and get-together. A wonderful lunch was put on by Robyn, with varying dishes supplied by ... read more
