Well up again this morning and off to Banteay Srei temple which is a really small temple and the carvings are very delicate. This was probably one of the best preserved temples and also one that you could not walk all over as it had ropes to stop tourists. The temple is is unique in Cambodia as it is made of pink sandstone and as i said before the carvings are so intricate and still preserved for all to see. So lunch was taken in a little place near Angkor Wat which was really pleasant. Then back to the hotel for a snooze or seista which was welcoming to me anyway as I am getting a little knackered. Anyway 4 oclock and off we go to the floating market - we took a boat and a ... read more

Got your attention - no it is PJ not Angelina. Anyway we were up early again this morning and off to see some more temples in Siem Reap. We went to Angkor Thom which has a number of temples within its city walls. One of which is called Ta Prohn which was the temple used by Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider - it has now been renamed as Angelina Jolie's temple - think this says it all. However, we did join the throngs of Koreans trying to jostle for a picture so bit of pot, kettle black or what! In fact, there are huge numbers of tourists at all the temples - and this isn't even high season. Can't imagine the free for all will be allowed for ever - damage is being done by ... read more

Well arrived at Siem Reap airport after quite a bumpy flight and remember a really early start - so not in best mood. Well we had to get a visa on arrival and to be honest not looking forward to it. However, all I can say is I was totally wrong it was really smooth and efficient not at all what all the books said it would be like. We go outside the airport arrivals hall which is so sweet - and there is a board with our name on it. To say we just booked the tour over the internet a couple of days ago and all correspondence had been through email with no deposit left - I was pleasantly surprised. We had to get some American Dollars to pay for the tour so the ... read more

Well we are in Malaysia and what is happening at home, the Olympics. It feels real weird even though we did not have any tickets as no point applying for any when we are not there. It feels weird being on the other side of the world when something so big is happening in our own country. We thought we would be able to wake up early to see the opening event but now realise we will be at Kuala Lumpur airport waiting for a plane to Siem Reap - really hope they have a TV on so we can watch at least something. One of our mates Jason is a volunteer for the Olympics and has started a blog on his experiences. so if you would like a first hand report on what is going ... read more

Quiet day today so went off to Batu Caves today which is about 45 minutes by train from the hotel. Really fascinating and informative as we went on a tour and conservation is one of their top prorities, which is good. We had to climb over 272 steps to get to the top so we could go inside the caves. There were many shrines at the bottom and at the top which were amazing. Can you believe the train fare was only 60 pence return! We are not sure if this is because they have extended the line and testing it out, but what value for money that was. We made a stop off at Borders bookstore (yes they get everywhere) as I had a thought that we could look at the travel books on Malaysia ... read more

We get to the train station in Singapore by a taxi driver who thought he was competing in the Singapore Grand Prix until I let him know that the Grand Prix does not start until September and the driver in the car infront was not Jenson Button, honestly. So lug the bags over a bridge and along a mile long corridor (well that is what it felt like) to wait in a queue with 3 people in front of us. Two were from Malaysia and very talkative i.e. where are you from, where are you going etc and the other gentleman was fast asleep - and kept on putting his head on my shoulders whilst snoring - so not a brilliant start to our train journey. I must admit it did pick up when a gentleman ... read more

Well here I am at 6.30pm thinking - why did we book a midnight train? Mike is fast asleep by the pool - need to keep bashing him due to his snoring! Great company he is when I am bored! We sent some things home today Gordon Bennett it is expensive even when you send things home by slow mail! Think I am going to have to rethink this buying things as do not want to carry them and also expensive to send by slow mail. I emailed the people who are on the volunteering with us in Vietnam - they sound nice. They are volunteering for 4 weeks where we are only doing it for 3 weeks. Sat by the pool as I am writing this with pidgeons getting in the swimming pool - not ... read more

Well yesterday we went back on the hop on hop off bus and also a boat on the Singapore Harbour - not a lot been happening really just chilling. We came back to our room and found a present as we have not had wifi in our room without using a dongle. They have kindly given us a candle - do you know how heavy a candle is - so looks like we may have to send some things home as our bags are starting to get heavy and I think If I put anything else in Mike's rucksack he may lose the plot with me this time. We went up to the pool for a couple of hours just chilling as I started to feel like I was on a merry-go-round and needed to take ... read more

Well decided we would stay another night in Singapore so two more nights to go. Went into the shopping arcade to book us a hop on hop off bus tour and got a real great deal which included a couple of water taxis as well including a trolley bus. The first trolley bus I went on was with my bestest mate in the whole wide world Sylvia in Washington. This one was not like Wally's trolleys in Washington with Sylvia and did not stop but really informative none the less. Mind you when I decided to sit at the back and was told by the man with the headphones on you do not want to sit there cause you cannot hear anything - I did what I was told - Cor in a different country I ... read more

Well just waiting for the plane now in Narita Airport in Japan to fly to Singapore. Having the lounge access is great - just to let you know I have had the shakes today as I walked past a Starbucks. Think I need to go to an AA counsellor, ha ha. Anyway no incidents last night i.e. Mike did not go sleep walking in the buff. I have been doing some detective work (Mike in the dining room with the dagger) being Inspector Clouseau that I am - I think it was the sake he had before going to bed. May see if Singapore has sake so I can test out my theory - don't worry I will make sure he has some PJs on this time. Touch down in Singapore - well what a place. ... read more
