Petronas Towers
Reflection of the Towers Well we are in Malaysia and what is happening at home, the Olympics. It feels real weird even though we did not have any tickets as no point applying for any when we are not there. It feels weird being on the other side of the world when something so big is happening in our own country. We thought we would be able to wake up early to see the opening event but now realise we will be at Kuala Lumpur airport waiting for a plane to Siem Reap - really hope they have a TV on so we can watch at least something.
One of our mates Jason is a volunteer for the Olympics and has started a blog on his experiences. so if you would like a first hand report on what is going on from the inside read his blog. Mind you we are now in competition to see who gets the most hits, so you need to get as many of your friends to read my blog - not that I am competitive, ha ha.
Mike got up early this morning to go and stand in line to get us tickets to go up Petronas
Petronas Towers
What a sight at night - for aren't we lucky we have been able to see this sight! Towers (twin towers, to you and me). They only let 1000 a day now ,not like a few years ago - also the cost has gone up from 10RM (approx £2) to 80RM (£16). Mike was surprised but happy at the same time as when he got to the front of the queue the man asked him "how old are you, we have special deals for the elderly". So Mike happily said "only 59". The man then said "ah so you get senior citizen rates of 1/2 price".
Well two things here came to mind:
• Mike must look old for him to even ask what his age is
• Retirement must be taking its toll on him - it could just be being with me 24/7
We have tickets to go up the tower at 7.15pm tonight as thought we have already been up the Menara Tower during the day so have already seen the brilliant skyline of Kuala Lumpur during the day so would be great to see it at night.
We have had real problems trying to check-in on-line and print out our boarding passes for Air Asia to go from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap as we did not want their insurance - found out unless we took their insurance we could not check-in on-line. If you do not check-in on-line and you have to do this at the airport they charge you extra - does this sound like Ryan Air or what. Anyway we found out we had to have their insurance and guess what hey presto we could check-in on-line and print our boarding passes out without an issue.
We have decided to book a tour in Cambodia due to time constraints and to be honest thought it would get rid of some stress on booking hotels, getting to places etc. This will be the last organised thing we book in Asia though we are definitely going it alone in Vietnam. Mind you we have booked a cheap tour as we are going by bus 5 hours from Siem Reap to Phnom Penn and not flying which I think will be good as we should see so much more - Please note I am saying this whilst sitting in a comfy chair in an air conditioned lounge so may change my mind - but hey thats a girls prerogative.
Before publishing this blog we have just been up the Petronas Towers and to be honest going to level 86 was just amazing the sight of the other tower was brilliant. We picked the best time to go up just as the sun was setting and got some amazing pictures (well I think so anyway). Just in the lounge again now writing the remainder of the blog. Not going to be late to bed tonight as have to get up early to catch our flight to Siem Reap - excited or what! I have always wanted to see Angkor Wat it one of the wonders on my bucket list.
Hope everyone is ok
