Hello Everyone, This is my last entry before coming home. I am at the airport at Heathrow in London, with 2 hours to wait, so I thought I would finish up a few thoughts. Yesterday, I spent the last day of my travels alone as most conference attendees had gone home. I had a room booked at the Sapphire Hotel, near to the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. I went for a walk to the bazaar in the afternoon and finished a bit of shopping, then bought myself a grilled corn. That is a common item in Istanbul, as it [View Full Entry]

Hello, I have been having some problems publishing the blog due to technicalities, so I just published the blog from this morning and now it is evening of the same day and will publish another quick message. We had a great day of touring again and I made some more connections with regard to One Child's Village. There may be an opportunity to raise funds through some business people in Nairobi, so I will continue to look into that further. Today we saw the underground city. It was originally built by the Hittites over 3000 years ago by tunnelling into the [View Full Entry]

Hello agaın Everyone, I am startıng to figure out some of the keys on the Turkish keyboard, so hopefully the spelling is a bit better this time. The "i" is on another key position so it takes awhile to change my hand positioning for it. We ended the conference yesterday morning with great success, and İ was also able to make even more strides for One ChildĀ“s Village. All ın all, İ can already claim that the trip has been an enormous boost for OCV and ıs well worth the price of admission (which, ın fact, I did pay myself so [View Full Entry]

Hello! Todd, great to hear that all is well in Istanbul. (Todd is attending the annual conference on Globalization for the Common Good.) I am now back home in Ottawa after a long flight and a missed connection in Toronto due to tightened security in Heathrow, London. Although I am home, the journey does not end as I continue to process everything. I imagine a few more blogs will be posted over the next while as Todd and I revisit some particularly gripping events during the trip. For now, I will pick up where Todd left off and tell you [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone!!! We are back to Lili and Lew's place from some of our travels within Kenya and WHAT AN ADVENTURE IT HAS BEEN!!!!! Well, I haven't blogged since the 22nd, although I know Cristelle has been been able to make a few posts. This last week had us travelling a lot throughout kenya so our blog opportunties are very sparse. We just returned from an educational trip in the Serengetti (Safari) and got a good snapshot of another aspect of the Kenyan economy. I will blog once here but add in comments about each of the days since I [View Full Entry]

Oh my goodness! Thanks to all who have posted a comment. It's great to hear from back home during such a busy trip. So I'm in charge of this next entry, which is great since Todd is in our hotel room doing my laundry! We are currently at the Utalii Hotel in Nairobi but it will be a short stay as we leave tomorrow for a 3-day safari on the Serengetti. We look forward to some relaxation time after our visit to Bumala. Last Tuesday we flew in to Bumala which is a small rural town right on the western border [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone! I am itching to give you news from Kenya! Todd and I have had a busy couple of days and we finally have some down time. On Saturday morning, we met our Kenyan host family. They have been very generous sharing their time, food, and space with us. It was interesting to have a glimpse into their day-to-day life and customs. Then off to a well-established orphanage in Nairobi called Nyumbani Orphanage. It is strictly for HIV positive children of all ages. They use an interesting format where they have children of different ages stay together in the [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone, Before I begin, I should remind everyone that you can subscribe to our blog and receive an email reminder every time we post a message to this site. I highly recommend you do this to ensure you don't miss out on any of the news. Okay.....wow.....big day! Cristelle and I both slept for about 12 hours or so, to offset the 48 hours of non-sleep that we had experienced previous to that. Surprisingly, we both felt completely rested and survived a very long day today to prove it. It is 1:00 AM in the morning on the 23rd [View Full Entry]

Hi Everyone, Thanks for tuning into out BLOG! We have arrived in Kenya after an arduous journey - 8 hours flihgt from Edmonton to London, another 9 hours wait at Heathrow, then 8.5 hours to Nairobi. Cristelle had a shorter flight from Ottawa, but then had to wait about 12+ hours at Heathrow. We hadn't really arranged how to meet at Heathrow (why make a plan and spoil the adventure) so it took us about 5 hour s to find one another. But we did and then went for a nice little meal. The first nig event for us came at [View Full Entry]
