I decided to change my wake-up call to 6:00 am. It came right on time this morning, although I have been up, off and on, since 3:00 am. I am feeling a slight sinus infection coming on and the eye infections that have dogged me for the last two months are also starting to irritate again. I pondered how to avoid another shower incident today and decided to just have a good "wash over" in the sink of the public washroom. That actually worked very well and relieved me of any subsidiary guilt I had breakfast and was at [View Full Entry]

I was up early this morning. Another wash in the public bathroom and down to check out of my room, leave my bags at the front desk, and have a little breakfast. I set out to the school. One brave little boy, about 3 years old, spied me no the way to the school and ran right up to, grabbed onto my pant leg, and yelled "Wuzungu, wuzungu!" (white man, white man!). He had also corned me the other day and seems to have a naive fascination with my appearance and presence. His mother is always about 30 seconds behind him [View Full Entry]

The front desk told me that I should come down in the morning and they would "arrange something" for me in terms of having a shower. I had left a request for a 7:00 am wake-up call. They were pretty close. The phone rang at 6:00 am to ensure that I was up. I stumbled down to the front desk with my "Bill Murray" morning hair, showering apparatus in hand. They told me to go back to my room and they would call me as soon as their "special arrangement" was ready. I trudged back up to my bar room, [View Full Entry]

Yawn!!!! Up at 4:30 am, a quick shower, check out, and off to the airport at 5:30 am. I was confident with my checked luggage now as I knew they each weighed exactly within the limits of 20 kg each. Things were going smooth and Sebastian got me directly to the domestic flight area. We just beat the Monday morning rush-hour traffic, which can be quite crushing. I made it through the first main security check and sidled up to the check-in line for Kenya Airlines. I went through the weigh-in and both bags came in at exactly 20 [View Full Entry]

The popular tourist regions of London are rife with pick pockets, fraudsters and scam artists. Paddington Station, what I consider to be my "familiar spot" when arriving in London, is just such a place. It is always the first station you arrive at (taking the London-Heathrow Express) when coming to London from the airport. It is also where I usually book my hotel - amongst the rows of hostels, hotels and B&B's stacked side by side in the crush of Victorian structures. So it was to Paddington Station that I went when attempting [View Full Entry]

Up early!! I drug my (now) 135 pounds of luggage down to Paddington Station at 7:00 am and got onto the Heathrow Express. After repacking everything, I again JUST made the luggage allowances. I boarded Kenyan Airlines and began the second major leg of my urney. Fortunately, I flew during the day and was able to watch the earth below. First the English Channel, then the northern shores of France, over Paris, to Mediterranean coastline, down the Italian coastline, across Sicily ad Malta, then a stretch across the Mediterrane [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone!! Well, I made it to London on the morning of the 17th of June, and promptly jigged accross London and got on the train to Glasgow, Scotland. It was a beautiful trip to travel up the east coast of England/Scotland, and was a nice break after the long flight. I snoozed off and on and was entranced by the Scottish countryside. Simply beautiful! I arrived in Glasgow about 7 or 8 pm to find it pouring rain (it started raining just as I pulled into the station). I took a few minutes to orient myself and decided [View Full Entry]

Hi Everyone, Here are the images from our trip to Kenya, and my later journey to Turkey. There are approximately 3000 images so you may need some time to go through them all. The first 8 albums are from Africa while the last 5 are from Turkey, and I have labeled them all to keep them in order for you. The images are raw and unedited, so please excuse the quality of some of them. I have just thrown everything in there for the moment and hope to make something more presentable down the road. You may wish to print off [View Full Entry]
