Much nicer last night compared to the night before. CC and I normally sleep head to foot as the tent is real narrow. We slept head to head and when I got cold I would slide over onto her side and use her bag to add warmth to me. About 9PM after we were in the tent for the night a hiker came in to the shelter. This morning afer we were all up I had a chance to check him out, what a find. He is in his early 20s, from GA and is walking from the NJ/PA line [View Full Entry]

Good night’s rest. The music was marginal at best so we hit the sack just before 9PM. The thunder storms had passed and for a campground it was surprisingly quiet. Things started to come to life about 6AM and we rolled out by 6:30 made breakfast and were on the trail by 8:15. The first real challenge was the mountain rising above the camp some 500'. Temperature was in the low 60s when we started out. We have figured out the AMC is mainly concerned with making money, not the welfare of hikers. Two women came in after we did when [View Full Entry]

Well today we made two milestones. We passed the 300 mile mark for this hike and we have completed our first 20+ mile day! It wasn't planned that way, but just ended up that way. We had a good night and had ten people around the shelter come morning. Most everyone had cleared the place before we did. We headed north about 8:30AM. The trail was pleasant and weather warming. We had planned to only go to Mashipacong Shelter at 12 miles and change. That shelter had no water so we added another 2.9 miles to make it 15 and change [View Full Entry]

What a restful night sleeping next to a running stream. I did however wake up once last night thinking about how hard the wind was blowing through the trees. Then I remembered there was a stream just 20' below us. Up at 6:30 and everyone was already up, packed and touching up the final things before heading out. The couple was headed for an Inn some 15 miles up the trail. Mack was headed to Unionville for resupply then back to the trail for another 20 mile day. We were headed to the next shelter 12.4 miles away. We said our [View Full Entry]

We managed to get some sleep last night as the snoring wasn't that bad. It was better than being out in the thunder storm that rolled through until about 2AM. We had two real early risers out and packing up around 5:20AM, we managed to stay in the sack until 6:15. Cold breakfast and hot drinks then pack up and ruck up! The rain had quit the mist was thick, the trail wet and Lady Slipper flowers in bloom, what a day for a walk. 8.6 miles into town for re-supply was the main task today. The rain had torn up [View Full Entry]

No rain last night. No snoring (except for me) as we were the only people in the shelter. Temps stayed in the high 50s to low 60s. My light weight bag worked fine and I slept like a baby all night. We were up at 6:45 with the oatmeal cooking soon there after. We took our time packing as the mist was thick and we were not real excited about walking in the rain that might come. We did make it out onto the trail by 8:45 headed up to a view point called "The Pulpit" an 800' climb. The rain [View Full Entry]

What a storm last night! Man was it good not to be in our tent with all the rain and wind. Snoring was not too bad, even one of the young ladies added to the chorus. We were up around 6AM doing our morning ritual when Randy came back into the shelter saying there were showers headed our way shortly. He calls his wife every morning for weather updates off the computer. This forecast just added to our lackadaisical attitude on hitting the trail soon. We moved out at 8:45 with a medium wind and a temperature of 48 degrees. CC [View Full Entry]

I was cold last night is just about all I want to say. I had everything I own on and the wind whipped up under the fly bringing the cold with it. I got sleep off and on. I shivered off and on, I twisted, turned, rolled, flopped and flipped and was cold! Morning came and I was still alive. Out and making breakfast the temp hovered in the low 40s. While cooking I heard the two young ladies tenting behind us laughing and getting excited. I turned to see a two year old buck in velvet nubs licking their tent [View Full Entry]

The night was quiet and without snoring. Rain started about 2AM and continued throughout the night. I will keep this short. The day was long and rain lasted until almost 1PM. Visibility for most of the day was less than 100'. There was little talk and lots of walk. We were cold, wet and tired when we reached the shelter at 2:45PM. We changed cloths warmed up had supper and now are headed for bed ay 6PM. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry and clear. We will stop in Port Clinton, PA to pick up a resupply box. We now have [View Full Entry]

What a good night’s sleep will do for a body! Rausch Creek sang to us all night covering all other noises, well except for Blackhawk helicopters hovering a few hundred feet away doing fast rope training. Our camp site was just outside Ft Indiantown Gap training center. It dropped down to the low 40s and the wind was brisk all night. As from the start we were toasty in our down bags. After yesterday we both slept in until 6:30AM. Just having to heat water for coffee and cocoa is much quicker than cooking and cleaning up. We were out of [View Full Entry]
