Hey Family and Friends, Today is a happy-sad day. Happy as we are moving on to Fiji and sad as we are giving up our home for the last 33 days L. We didn’t have to hand over the campervan until early afternoon so we went for a walk in the morning and again went to the library to make sure everything was booked up, charged and we had everything ready for Fiji. We also thoroughly cleaned the camper wiping all the sides down and throwing all the rubbish away!! We didn’t want to pay a fortune in the airport for crappy food so we went back to the organic café for lunch, once again it was amazing, Vick had a caramelized onion quiche and I had a vegetable and blue cheese frittata. We got back ... read more

Hello Bloggers and all, We drove to the train station about 10 minutes away from where the freedom camping car park was; we parked up for free and hopped on the train that was due at 8.35. It was a £10.50 return ticket price each which is more than it would have cost to drive but we didn’t want the risk of driving that massive thing around the busy center of Auckland, and also it would have cost a lot to park in the Centre too. Once we arrived we went around a few of the shops, Neil wanted to go to the NZ shop called Lulumon Athletic where he had his eye on this t-shirt for the past few weeks. He bought it. We loved everything in the shop! They have a few in London ... read more

Hi everyone, We woke up safe in our freedom camping parking site, this morning we went to the local swimming pool, as it was only $5 and meant we could get a shower!!! We had to drive to the pool but it was only 5 minutes away, once there we had to try and park our 7.2 meter van safely so it wasn’t in the way (never an easy thing). We managed to get a student discount so it only cost us $3 each, yes a bargain!!! I did laps as Vick got into the hot pool, which unfortunately was cold so she headed to the shower while I swam!! After finishing we managed to clean our clothes in the shower room, saves us going to a launderette and we need clean clothes lol!! After the ... read more

Hey Everyone, We woke up this morning in the peninsular just off Tairua at the overnight parking site we had stayed at. We had breakfast in the camper then headed along the SH25 towards Auckland. We had looked at ‘camper mate’ app to see if there were any free places to park in or near Auckland but there was nothing. So we drove to Pukekohe, which is about an hour drive south of Auckland. We parked up about 11.30am, as it is winter season now, there was no one parked up there so we didn’t have to worry about the limited parking available for campers. We had lunch when we arrived, using up what we have in the fridge. As we only have 3 days left with the camper we need to start using up the ... read more

Hi Family, friends and fellow bloggers, We woke up in Coromandel Town, we left by about 8.30am, driving all around the peninsular from Coromandal town to Whitianga on the SH25, then down to Hot Water Beach, then finally staying the night in a free self-contained camp ground about 10 minutes from Tairua. It really doesn’t take long to get all the way round (maybe an hour), so we had plenty of time to stop in the pretty town of Whitianga to see the immaculate beach on the east coast-a preferred holiday choice compared to the west coast of this peninsular. We stayed in the library for about 2 hours, and we had lunch in the camper. The town again is small, and a lot of these places are mainly seasonal, so it wasn’t busy as it ... read more

Hello People, Woke up in Te Aroha, our plan was to to drive to Coromandel Town today, first however we decided to get some shopping as the cupboards were bare, and there was also a library so we could charge up our electronics and get some Wi-Fi to let people know we were still alive!! Once we had everything sorted it took about 1h30 to drive to the Coromandal area, along the beautiful winding coast, although the water was very muddy, and as it was so windy it was causing the dirty foam from the sea to spay out onto the road (and our windscreen). When we arrived we had a very lazy day. We parked up where we knew we could be parked for the night, we had a stroll around the town (which took ... read more

Hi All, We woke up at Sasha’s in her amazingly comfy warm bed (well anything is warmer than our campervan bed). Sasha cooked us a tasty breakfast of bacon, spinach and poached egg on toast. (Wow it was so good). We said our goodbyes and thanked Sasha for everything; she works in a Kiwi fruit plantation so gave us some kiwis as a goodbye present. (They have been eaten and were great). As the weather was so bad the day before we couldn’t do the Mount Manganui walk so as it was beaming sunshine this morning we drove back there to do it!!! It was a pretty easy walk up; it took us around 40min and was well worth it!! The views from the top are breathtaking, if the weather was a little clearer you could ... read more

We woke up early as the docks entrance was near the car park and the heavy-duty trucks start early in the morning. We had planned to walk up Mount Manganuni, however the rain was teaming down!!! We decided to have a nice easy morning instead and read in the morning head to the local burger king to get Wi-Fi and just to relax. In the afternoon we were going to Te Puke to meet my friend Sasha; we had worked together on the Pacific Jewel. Early afternoon we headed to Te Puke, where she works, however once we got there I got a message that she was at home in Papamoa beach area so we had to turn around and head back towards hers. We arrived at Sasha’s after getting some directions from a stranger (normal ... read more

Hello People, After waking up in the quiet parking area of the TANC car park, we found that we had an over night neighbor ‘Juicy Van’ who we never heard turn up. Neil had too much energy in the morning so I encouraged him to go for a run. He only managed a mile and a half in 15 minutes before coming back (sweaty). We then headed north to Mount Maunganui, the drive there was only short, around 25km and a simple driving road. We arrived in Tauranga late morning; we first headed to a count down to get supplies. Once we had paid up there wasn’t much parking in the main town so the shop girl suggested to park on one of the residential street a few blocks out. So we parked up of 4th ... read more

Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Rotorua May 21st 2015

Hello everyone, We had a lie in this morning, and luckily the temperature was fairly warm in the camper this morning, so I even made it out of bed first to put the kettle on the stove. After getting fuel in town we drove 15 minutes north to the Huka Falls just outside Taupo. These falls are where NZ’s longest river, the Waikato, pushes through a narrow chasm causing a dramatic 9m-drop into the rushing currents. We took some photos from the footbridge then drove along the 5 all the way up to Rotorua. We drove 20 minutes northeast to got to Hells Gate, an impressive geothermal reserve. The English name originates from the 1934 visit by George Bernard Shaw. The 10 hectares reserve allows for a 2.5km walk around all the incredible geothermal activity happening ... read more
