Advice for you: Santorini Husband and I went to Santorini last October for 4 days. Avoid the trip to the "hotsprings, mud bath and walk to the top of the volcano" I am saving you time, money and disapointment.
The so-called "hot springs" are luke warm, after you jump into ice cold ocean and swim over to the sulfer-smelling "hot springs" which are 1 degree warmer than the freezing ocean water; then the "black volcanic mud bath" is a tourist joke--it's really the goat shit from the goats that live on that little rock at the "hotsprings". The walk to the volcano top is tiring, and it smells like sulfur, and it bubbles a little. Yes, it is still active after the last eruption over 50 yrs ago, but, please save your money. Also, there is a wonderful restaurant there called "Mammas Steakhouse" although you can't get American steak there, the food is superb, and all homemade every day by a woman who looks like a typical grandmother. Best food on the island. And almost right next door on the same side of the street is a breakfast place that serves omlets. I cant remember the name, but you can ask anyone that lives on Santorini for "Mamma's Steakhouse" and they can direct you. The breakfast spot is up the incline. If you don't have a place to sleep yet, all the pensiones owners gather there at the dock when the ferries arrive and they will fight over you. We stayed with a family for $30 per night. Don't make the mistake I made: We decided to go to the Sphinx restaurant one night, on the cliff, and the food was wonderful, but---I never asked how much the fish was going to cost (the special of the day) Hell, I am on an island, how expensive could fish cost?? Oh honey... The waiter brought us both liquor shots before showing us the bill total.
Always ask the cost of everything. That fish came whole, and the waiter took off the head and tail, and fileted it for me, and it came with 3 kinds of vegetables and rice, and it was delicious! More food than i could ever eat, and all delicious. $80 for the meal. My husband just about shot me right there. We paid for the meals with all our cash, and put the rest on the credit card. I appologized all the way back to the pension. Luckily, he thought it was funny.

whitsunday island You sound like you were having loads of fun and new experiences during this trip. On a catamaran and scuba diving ! wow! I was on a small catamaran...cant cook on it like yours..when I was travelling to Manado in Northern Sulawesi last week. We took the ride to see the coral reef around the Bunaken Island marine park. yes it was awesome alright with all the colorful fishes, turtles and eels. Didnt scuba dive or snorkel though since I only had 4 hours to do all this and had to give my talk immediately after that morning trip. Will certainly go back there. Have fun in Cairn and dont forget to eat Durian for me when you are there. At least you then could match up with the stinky guy who sat next to you on this wi trip!! HA HA! Enjoy! and take care.
delicious steak? Yea I sure dont mind trying a Kangaroo and also a croc steak! So how was it? Heard that the croc meat tastes like chicken meat. Dont know about Kangaroo..maybe like deer meat? Anyway you sound like you are having a terrific time! Take Care! Love Dad
Wonderful Trip. Hi Mylis,
Mom and I have just been reading about your trip,Australia sounds like a very beautiful country.I am sure it is a journey you will never forget. Makes me wish I was a few years younger and I could go over there too. I will look forward to seeing all your pictures when you come home.
I bet you enjoyed meeting up with some of your friends and talking over old times.
Well it seems as if supper is ready so I had better go.We are a little late as we had Margaret and Florabel here this afternoon.
Much love Nana.
You suck You sound like you are having so much fun. I'm soooo jealous!!! Australia sounds lovely. Would you recommend it as a honeymoon destination? My next trip is to Lisbon. Knut's taking me there for my birthday for a long weekend. Then I go to Munich for work the week after. It's not the same as surfing and bumming around on the beach, though!
Take care of yourself,
Alanna xo
Hey surfin' lady! Hi Love,
I am glad that you are getting some sun. We're still fighting the cold here. Sounds like you have been visiting some interesting places. I am glad that you have found some new friends to see things with. Hope you have fun learning how to surf. Take care of yourself, now. Love you, Mum
heyyy glad to discover everything's going smashingly! I can't wait to see all your pictures. I was talking to Andy (the Kiwi) about how one of my friends is in Australia and all he said was "oh yea... f***ing australians" under his breath... I thought it was amusing. he thinks you should have gone to New Zealand :P nothing's new on my end, unfortunately, but work's been better :) anyway I'll talk to you later! ciao for now.
Awesome adventures I am glad to here that you are still listening to that travel bug of yours!! Aussie Rules in a trip in itself. I look forward to hearing more.
Sounds like you've had a great experience so far Mylis. I could say that it almost feels like I'm there when i read these postings, but I know I would be lying then. I know its nothing compared to actually being there. Hope your trip to the north is awesome too. Take care Mylis.
Kewl Even though I also have been busy travelling and sometime do not have access to the computer but I have been following your adventure. You are certainly having a good time down under. Take care ya love
Canberra Hey, that Australian work ethic dad mentioned sounds like Norwegian work ethic! We live for our weekends too.
