September on the Road Washington DC had perfect weather. We learned to ride the subway and spent six days as tourists. Sat in on a Senate session at the Capitol. Poor Tom had to keep his opinions to himself. Annapolis was a beautiful little town. Mt. Vernon had visitors from Scotland, Germany, Russia and Canada while we were there. October we're headed back South via the Skyline Parkway! [View Full Entry]

Annapolis

Hershey PA was more than chocolate. Rolling farmlands with prestine farms owned by the Amish. We toured the Cornwall Iron Furnace which was active from 1742-1972 when a hurricane flooded the iron mine. We visited the Ephrata Cloister which was started by German Conrad Beissel in 1691. He was the original "Kool Aid Prophet," settling in a Mennonite area of Hershey, he inspired "sisters and brothers" to join him in a life of bleak solitude. Onto Ashtabula, OH which had delightful covered bridges everywhere. Of course touring the wine vineyards was a must do (at least for Karen.) [View Full Entry]

Charles & John Wesley preached here in America first, circa 1700.
In June we stopped in Charlotte on our way back from Florida. We went on to Wilkesboro and visited Tom (Hang Your Head Down) Dooley’s birthplace-yes he was a real person. Then off to the most pristine and beautiful Shennendoah Valley. Over the 4th of July we toured the Appomattox Court House in Virginia, Patrick Henry’s home, Woodrow Wilson’s home and Poplar Forest where Thomas Jefferson had his retreat from politics. Tom and I golfed for the first time in 2 years (he had a bum elbow.) We arrived in Hershey PA July 15th and toured the CHOCOLATE factory. We’ll stay [View Full Entry]

Hi Ya'll: First "Thanks to Lena for giving me this website to share our travels with whomever is interested. First of March we headed out and stopped in Florence, SC to visit with daughter Sherri and her husband John. Oh, and our very special SC grandaughter, Sarah. One week later, after a breakdown on the road of the F350 (had road side assistance) we spent a week in Georgia at a campground run by a 90 year old couple. Beautiful and peacful in Screven, Ga. Went to Jekeyll Island and had a picnic on the beach. Monday we head to our [View Full Entry]
