So after dropping Michael off at Brisbane we start our journey north. We go in search of some surf and decide to stop at Noosa again. This time we stay at a campsite near the river. This is a great site in a perfect location with a great camp kitchen right on the waters edge. We spent time surfing and relaxing just getting ready for our long journey up to Cairns which is 1700 kms away and we only go 100kms tops in the van so its a long way..... While we are camping one night, Shenton is sitting by the van and a possum just comes right up to his feet and starts to stare at him, he got some great shots as he posed for him up a tree, but I have managed to ... read more

The second day in Noosa we decided to take out the Kayaks and bikes and explore the river. Shenton went by Kayak and myself and Michael took to the bikes. Shenton chose to go by water to show off his new french sailor look with his Moustache, I think he scared a few people along the way though. The road took a slightly different route to the river and we lost Shenton for a while but caught up with him after he had Kayaked over 3km down river. Even though he looked knackered he was convinced that the tide would be in his advantage on the way back and so challenged us to a race. We didnt need to try very hard as it really was no competition and we got to the meeting point to ... read more

The last day of Fraser Island we drive the other direction towards the Southern Tip to catch the ferry (barge) over to Rainbow beach. We start out at around 10am and I am worried about crossing Eli Creek as I have read that you can only cross 2 hours around low tide, which isn't until 1.30 today. However when we get there, there is nothing to worry about and we cross with a big splash (forgot to wind the windows up again) and we are on our way. We stop at Happy Valley for a drink before we do more beach driving on our way to Lake Wabby which we are going to visit today. Lake Wabby is a 45 minute walk from the beach and you arrive at the top of a big sandblow and ... read more

Today we are going to explore the north of the Island, the whole beach coast line is 75kms so in the morning we head off on the beach again towards Indian Heads. A short walk up the headland gives super views in both directions and the surf does look very tempting but we have to remember that there are all kinds of lethal animals in there so no surfing today. After Indian heads we have to manouver the Tank on a very sandy road behind Indian Heads, which Shenton manages no problems and then we reach the Champagne Pools. These are called this because as the waves break over the pools the bubbles look like Champagne. We have a lovely refreshing dip here before we are off up to the northern most point. I ve had ... read more

Left Noosa today and drove to Hervey Bay to catch a ferry over to Fraser Island. We dont have anything actually booked yet, either Ferry ride or permits for Fraser Island so this will be a bit of an adventure. I have my first drive of the Tank on a deserted road, while Shenton rides cowboy style out of the window. After stopping for lunch at a place called Torquay we try to stock up a littel but as it is Anzac day no big shops are open so we have to shop at a little convenince store, tinned food for our stay on the Island it is then. We manage to get some beer and wine so all is ok. We also manage to get a pump for the tyres as once we get on ... read more

Our few days in Brisbane are done and we are off up the coast towards Noosa. Tank feels better than he has done in years and is running nice and smooth with loads of new bits and bobs so we are ready for the next part of the adventure. We decide to take the scenic drive and avoid the highway, this takes us past Australia Zoo, this is the Zoo that Steve Erwins father started its next to the Glass House mountains, one of these looks like a gorrila rising out of the mist. This is where Shenton and his family used to go camping when they were here years ago. We drive through lots of seaside places like Couloundra, Maroochydoor and we stop for lunch at Mooloolaba where the surf looks great but it is ... read more

Our last day in Noosa was looking like it was going to be wet, wet, wet so we decided to take the Valley Rattler steam train which used to be a big railway station during the gold rush but since the gold has run out Gympie (yes this is the name of the town) is now a sleepytown dedicated to the history of the gold rush era. The train itself was very old and had the traditional wooden carriages inside, it reminded me of the Harry Potter train. It ambled along at a slow speed and everyone who saw us on the way stopped to wave. When we reached the destination the train had to remove its engine and drive it onto a turntable thing. Then the drivers had to push it round so that it ... read more

Check out the photos. One question.............. SHAVE or DONT SHAVE ? I have told him it is a good look for him, reminiscent of Kevin Webster in 1980's coronation street. Your votes count so please send us a comment :-) Atty I am sure I can count on you to vote Dont Shave :-) One more thing, it seems that Jeff has found a picture of the Mona Lisa in his pub, he is going to send it to auction and hopes to fund his and Traceys new lifestlye.... read more

Spent a few days in Redcliff where we got Tank fixed up ready for the next part of the trip. We have explored Brisbane and by foot, train, bus and water so I think we have seen most of it now as it is really only quite small. Like most places it has a small China Town and a lovely botanical gardens. Michael's memories of Brisbane are coming back to him but the places has changed a lot in 35 years and the road layouts are very different. We walked from out of town through Fortitude Valley where Michael was a police officer and we passed the pub that used to be the local brothel but is now the a gay bar. The area is still renound for drugs and prostitution though. We have also spent ... read more

In the morning we sat in the camp kitchen at Mount warning and a Kookaburra came over and got really close and friendly with us. We got some great shots of him and he stayed with us for a couple of hours while we ate breakfast. We left the camp around lunchtime and headed off on our trip to Brisbane along the Gold Coast. We have heard that this coast is really built up and looks a little like the coast from Malaga to Marbella. It is not far and once we hit Tweed Heads we have crossed over from New South Wales into Queensland where the remiander of our trip all the way to Cape York will be. As we hit the gold coast road it does remind me of either an American highway with ... read more
