Haha, fooled you. You thought I was coming home last week after Machu Picchu. Nope! I wasn´t quite ready to come home then so I extended my trip and have just come back ashore after exploring the world´s highest navigable lake in the world and the largest in South America - Lake Titicaca. And just so you know, it´s Ti-ti-cha-cha (think the old jewish guy joke with the fly in the soup). Here is what I have to say about Lake Titicaca. It´s a beautiful lake but please oh please, DON´T GO!!! I read an online article before I left SF [View Full Entry]

Machu Picchu Greetings from Ollantaytambo, a quaint town nestled next to Inka ruins not a two hour train ride from Aguas Caliente, from where everyone ascends to Machu Picchu. Today was the day I visited these mystical ruins. I have wanted to go for so long, I can´t even recall when I first learned about them. They were not exactly what I expected, but also much more. I know, I know, I´m skipping ahead in my travels approximately 5 weeks. I truly hope to go back in time and share with you more of my amazing adventures. For now, as my [View Full Entry]

I just spent an hour or so writing an extremely descriptive and fascinating blog about the Parque Nacional Tayrona which is now nowhere to be found. sigh... Here are the pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/69192286@N00/sets/72157622632318992/ And the few pix (there are about 6) I took in Cartagena and the one at the volcanic mudbath nearby: http://www.flickr.com/photos/69192286@N00/sets/72157622536435395/ Otherwise, I´m well. Quite well in fact! Heading to the Sacred Valley near Cusco tomorrow and then Machu Picchu the day after. Besos, amigos! Morganne [View Full Entry]

Hello and greetings from Arequipa, Peru! Finally, the internet is fast enough, and I´m lazy enough to spend a couple of hours in front of a computer. I´m going to try my darndest to catch up on Colombia (the weeks later!). So here goes! Santa Marta After our night and day in adventure capital of San Gil, the team, including Sue, Kim and fellow traveler Mike, set off on a night bus to Santa Marta. Santa Marta is on the caribbean coast of Colombia and approximately 10 hours by bus from Santa Marta (if memory serves, which it doesn´t really). There [View Full Entry]

Hi! I´m in Lima. I´m not supposed to be but glad I am. Most people will tell you to spend as little time as possible in Lima. My plan was actually to take a bus to Ica to the south of Lima as soon as I got in. But, still having too much fun in Colombia, I didn´t actually find out any specifics. I took a cab directly from the airport to the bus station, but alas, there were no more buses to Ica for the night. Another bus line would get me to Nazca which is kinda sorta near where [View Full Entry]

And now, for Colombia. I flew into Bogota on a Monday afternoon. I spent the afternoon looking at the old main square and visiting some museums. Colombia´s most famous artist is a man named Botero. There is an excellent little Museo Botero near the town square that not only features his work but has a great collection of Impressionist as well as Surrealist artists considering the size of the museum. The following day, and my first morning in Bogota, I met new friends Sue and Kim at the Platypus hostal. Up until then, I had really had a hard time deciding [View Full Entry]

Hello familia and friends! Finally, the blog post you´ve been waiting for. Last time I wrote from Ecuador, I said I´d fill you in on Vilcabamba and Cuenca. Suffice it to say, Vilcabamba is so beautiful and relaxing. I really enjoyed my time there. I hope the pictures do it justice. As for my trip to Cuenca, it was such a treat to visit my grad school friend, Tammy. My time with her was so rewarding and spiritually enriching. I wish I could see her more often. (BTW, as I type this, I am in the home of Tammy´s friend, Glen [View Full Entry]

Hola Familia, Sorry for the long absence. All I can say is Colombia is incredible and every day is a new adventure! I have so many stories to tell from rappelling down a waterfall, to chartering a boat to take a group of new friends to beautiful beaches, from grueling hikes through jungle to even more beautiful and exclusive beaches, monkeys, butterflies, butterflies, butterflies, freezing buses, Cheech and Chong buses, gelatinous, ashen mud baths in volcanoes, torrential rainfall in Cartagena, amazing fruit, arequipe ice cream... oh man, I love this place! And the people - the Colombians and the travelers! I [View Full Entry]

Hi Friends, I'd be remiss to publish a travel blog without pictures and unfortunately, I haven't had much success at uploading these past few weeks. I've finally gotten about 2/3 of the way through my trip with uploads on to flickr so I'll post the links below and finally share with you some of my adventures. The last I wrote, I was departing Quito in the morning and heading off on the Pachamama Alliance trip lead by my college roommate, Prema. The first stop was in the small indigenous community in the town of Salasaca in the Andes. We stayed with [View Full Entry]

Hi All, I´ve been hanging out in Quito the past four days. I meant to go mountain biking to a town known for its hot springs yesterday but I woke up feeling ever so slightly like I might have a cold coming on. Wanting to play it safe, I spent most of the day lounging around Linda´s muy modern apartment. It´s hardly like I´ve left the US - there are so many conveniences there. But tomorrow morning I meet up with the group I´m traveling with to the Amazon basin. As some of you may have heard already, the group is [View Full Entry]
