20 0ctober 3013 The journey through the tunnel and across England was uneventful and we arrived home at lunchtime. This has been an interesting and varied trip which included visits to the main British and French palaces, several French cathedral towns and a number of Roman ruins, pilgrimages to several WW1 sites and a journey along part of the Lot, a beautiful river we had not previously explored. 16 October 2013 We continued westward along the beautiful Lot valley and drove along some magnificent roads which wound there way around limestone cliffs high above the river, eventually arriving at the picturesque village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie an ancient settlement built on a rocky bluff above the waters. A 250K drive followed, firstly along the river to Cahors and the northwards to stay with Lynne Hilton who lives in a hamlet just beyond Nontron.... read more

Entraygues is prettily located on the confluence of the Rivers Lot and Truyere with a chateau situated right on the junction. We had a stroll round the town in the morning before moving on along an attractive road right by the river. Then it was a turn southwards where we found an excellent country restaurant for a large, leisurely four course lunch. The detour from the Lot was to visit Conques, a spectacular medieval village set in a deep valley with the huge abbey church of Sainte-Foy, a pilgrimage site, in its middle. The organ was being played in the high Romanesque arched interior of the church and it was all quite moving. 12 October 2013 We started our journey northwards along a very attractive road through vineyards and avenues of ancient trees to the pretty village of St Martin-de-Londres. It has a small early Romanesque church squeezed in amongst surrounding buildings and set on top of a hill. There was a camper stop in the village but we decided to move on and also later rejected another stopping place outside the town of Le Vigan by an ancient bridge. The mountainous road we then followed was supposed to give excellent views but unfortunately the weather closed in and we were in mist most of the time!
