Got up reasonably early and headed into the city and me and HB were prepared for the cold waiting for the ball drop in the evening, I had on thermals, a shirt, hoodie, fleece, thick walking socks and jeans as they where thicker than my combat trousers and my faux fur deputy dawg hat and my scarf and two pairs of gloves....lol. We headed to Macy's first as HB has a second job at Macys and a media job in Lexington area, i looked around while HB picked up his paycheck and then we headed towards Bryant park and on the way we both got a free bottle of snapple which was great, i love free stuff. We got to Bryant park and watched the skaters on the ice rink for a little while and then we ... read more

First stop today was ground zero or otherwise known as the World Trade Center, they have started rebuilding at the site and i took some shots and read about the redevelopment and memorial. My host HB was feeling the cold and we took a detour to 21st Century department store and it was full of tourists trying to get a bargain. We walked past the American stock exchange and then a detour via Trinity chapel which was not the most picturesque of religious buildings in the city and then we attempted to navigate the subway down to Battery Park and this was made difficult as they had shut down certain lines for maintance and the diversion signs were wrong. We got down to Battery Park and then ensued a two hour wait in a queue to ... read more

I Woke up at 6.40 am and said my goodbyes to Maria and headed to Kings Cross tube station to get the tube all the way to terminal 3 Heathrow and it was 4 pounds on the tube instead of 15 pounds on the heathrow express, it took longer on the tube but id left plenty of time to get there. I got straight into the line for check-in as soon as i got there as i couldn't be bothered to carry or my kit around for a while. It was the right decision as it took nearly an hour to check-in and then the check-in guy asked about my trip and was impressed at the various places i would visit and he got my bag taken onto the plane via the fragile routing as i ... read more

Well today was the start of my adventure today, i was woken up by my Mum and dad being less than quiet...lol. I had breakfast and a quick double and triple check of my stuff was all packed and i had everything. I than ran through again what my mum and dad would need to sort out for me while im away, such as my banking etc. Then at 9.20 am my Mum and Dad took me to the national express stop and we chatted a little while until the coach turned up and it turned up on time which was a miracle fo UK public transport. My rucksack was stowed by the driver and at the stage i was about to get on the coach and my Mum started to cry, i did expect it ... read more

Well the are only two certainty's in life and thats taxes and kicking the bucket, the fact im writing this blog means i haven't met with the latter yet....lol. So when i finished work on the 23.11.07 i called the tax offices marvelous call center in bootle to get a P85 posted out so i can reclaim some of my tax as im not working the full tax year April to April. Not sure how much i will get back, but hoping for around at least £400 and that will come in really handy to boost my funds while i am away. But you know what the tax man is like, he likes taking and sometimes taking more than he should, but not so keen on giving you what he owes you. Well its now over ... read more

So another day and after tips of some travelblogger's and other people i know i decided to do some more unpacking and packing and well it was fairly similar to yesterdays results........lol, so several unpacks and repacks later and i think i am finally happy with what i am taking and what i am leaving behind. I have decided after cutting down t-shirts, underwear to 5, that i have now got down to 4 of some items and two of some and one of other items and some items have gone as i feel i will not need them and if i do i can buy them cheaply enough on the road. Well less than 25 days to go, which is 3 weeks and 4 days and i am here in the backwoods of lincolnshire and ... read more

Well the days are passing so fast just now its crazy, so i finished work on the 23.11.07 and a few drinks with work colleagues in the local pub and a leaving card and £25 from work colleagues which was nice:), then drinks with some friends that night and then went for a coffee with my friend Sal at the Trafford center on the Saturday (24.11.07), nice coffee and Trafford center on a Saturday leading up to Christmas was possibly a bad idea, but we had a good chat and the time flew by. Click Clock?............yes thats the sound of my countdown and yes D-Day is getting closer day by day. At the moment its 25 working days to go and 70 days till i hop on an American airlines flight to my first stop NYC......so excited to see the big apple:) So i joined this site called Couchsurfing back in March and the crux of this site is to make this world smaller and help out fellow travelers and so i was thinking i might need to hostel it in NYC, as i kept getting turn downs from NYC Couch Surfers or CSer's as i call em. Well now i have 5 offers and not sure who to choose yet, but looks like i will get to meet some cool people and see lots of stuff in NYC...yippeee. So ... read more
