Summer is almost here and it's time for Sally and I to head out on the road again. I wasn't certain if I would be blogging about our travels again this year but we have had a lot of friends tell us that they really enjoyed the blogs from last years trip and that we should do it again this year. So as a result of everyones input, we will be blogging about our adventures again this year. For the second year in a row, Sally and I will be spending our summer in New England, camping with friends and family. Because it was still a little too warm when we returned to Phoenix last September, we have decided to delay this years return home for one more month. This year we plan to start out around May 27th and will be starting on a more southern route so that we can visit family in Dallas Texas. From there we will connect with I-40 in Little Rock on our way to Nashville. We will spend about 5 days in Nasville visiting family and plan to see friends that were stationed with us in Germany in the mid 1970s. We will be in Nashville again this year during the CMA Fan Fair and have tickets for the Grand Ol Opry for June 7th. We leave Nashville on the 8th of June and will head to Dollywood in Eastern Tenessee. Our plans are to be in Connecticut around June 13th. Thank you for sharing this journey with us and we look forward to seeing many of you again this fall.

Last night was definately one of the highlights of this summers adventures for Sally and I. You can't visit Nasville Tennessee with seeing the Grand Ole Opry whether you are a country music fan or not. Like the banner on the front of the building says, this is 'The Show that made Country Music Famous'. The Opry House just reopened this year after being flooded in the summer of 2010 by over 14 inches of rain in the Nashville area. The cumberland river which runs right behind the Opry House overflowed it's bank which resulted in serious flooding of the Opry House. The Roy Acuff theater was located to the right of the Opry House and it was damaged so severely that it was a complete loss and had to be demolished. The Grand Ole Opry ... read more

Like all good things...This Too Must End!!! Summer is almost over and it's time to head home. This summer has exceeded our expectations in every way!! Sally and I have made new friends and have been able to spend more time with family here in New England than we have been able to spend in years. We have seen things that before this we could only imagine. Sally said that New York was never on her bucket list of things to see but now we are discussing another trip to New York City next year. Cape Cod was fantastic and the beaches were beautiful. We saw mansions in Newport Rhode Island that could stand against any in Hollywood. We have made friends with people here who will be part of our lives for years to come. ... read more

Hello Everyone. Sally and I just returned from a three day trip to Cape Cod. With summer winding down, we wanted to get this last trip in before we have to leave Connecticut for our drive back to Phoenix. We leave two weeks from next Monday which is September 10th. We will drive to Nashville where my sister has purchased tickets for us all to go to the Grand Ol' Oprey on September 15th. We are discussing a side trip to Branson Missouri but once we get that close to home, Sally may want to head back to Phoenix to see our two Grand-daughters. That's been the hardest part of the summer for Sally as she has really missed the girls terribly. When we left we told them that when school started again, it wouldn't be ... read more

On Thursday the 26th of July my sister Lori came down to New York to join us for the day. The plan was for the three of us to go out to see the Statue of Liberty and then on to Ellis Island. Sally and Lori were going purse shopping later in the day before we returned to Grand Central Station for our return trip to Connecticut. The Statue of Liberty and the museum are currently closed for renovation so we didn't get off the boat on Liberty Island. Instead we were able to get a few pictures of the Statue of Liberty before proceeding on to Ellis Island. I was especially interested in Ellis Island because that's where my fathers parents came thru when they came to the United States. Both of my paternal grandparents ... read more

On Tuesday, 24 July, Sally and I had made reservations to see the 9/11 memorial in downtown Manhattan. Tickets to see the memorial are free but you are still required to make a reservation. Our reservation was for 3:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon. We took the subway down to arrive as close to 3:00 pm as possible. It was around 90 degrees and very muggy on our first day in New York. The subways are pretty crowded and even though they are air conditioned, it's still pretty warm. The security to get into the memorial is very tight. You are required to go thru a security screening similar to what you would go thru at Sky Harbor Airport. You are also required to show you pass at 4 seperate locations prior to getting into the memorial. ... read more

Just returned to Connecticut on Thursday from our three day visit to New York. We had a fantastic time!! Sally and I rode the train down from New Haven Connecticut on Tuesday July 24th. This was our first train ride in over 30 years. The last time we rode a train was when we were stationed in Germany in the late 70's. Coming into Grand Central Station all you see are lanes of railroad tracks side by side coming into the station. There are over 115 train tracks that lead into grand central station so it's quite a bustling place. From Grand Central, we took a taxi to our hotel, which was located just off Times Square. We arrived at the hotel early so we were unable to get into our room until later in the ... read more

Our daughter Kelly has asked me several times to blog about the campgrounds where Sally and I are camping in Connecticut so here goes. The Campground is called Acorn Acres which is located in Bozrah Connecticut. Bozrah is located about 8 miles from the town of Norwich Connecticut which is in the southeastern part of the state. The campgrounds are about 3 miles off the highway, in the woods, so prior to this trip I always needed someone to lead me in and out since I only came out here once every two or three years when I was home on vacation. Acorn Acres has been in operation since 1968. The owner is a close friend of my mom and dad's and I would venture to say that most of my nieces and nephews have worked ... read more

Good Morning all!! Hope everyone had a good weekend.... Sally and I decided last Friday to take a drive over to Newport Rhode Island for the day. It's a little over an hours drive from Norwich Connecticut. We have been here in Connecticut for almost 3 weeks now and decided that it was time to go exploring. About 5 miles out of Newport we noticed that there was quite a bit of traffic heading in the same direction as us. When we arrived in Newport we found that is was the weekend of the tall ship festival in Newport which explained all the traffic. It took us over an hour to find a parking spot. Numerous large Schooners were in port as well as quite a few luxury yachts. Newport Rhode Island is also known for ... read more

I guess you've all been wondering where we've been lately since I haven't update the blog in almost two weeks. We left Maine on June 20th and arrived in Connecticut that afternoon. It was the day of New Englands first heat wave of 2012. The afternoon temperature that day was around 94 degrees and very muggy. The thing about the weather here in Connecticut is that even though it can get hot and humid, it never lasts more than a few days. Then it's back in the 70's again and very comfortable. Anyway, we're all settled at the campgrounds for the summer. We are next door to one of my sisters and across the street from another. It's nice to be around my family for a while. Yesterday was the first time since we've been here ... read more
