Took a weekend trip to Cape Cod this past weekend. This time we went with friends that we have camped with these past two summers. Jack and Janet live in Plymouth Massachusetts and can drive from their house to the cape house in about 30 minutes. Jack is from Dennis which is on the southeastern coast of cape cod so he knows the cape as well as anyone can. We drove up to Plymouth on Friday morning and went to lunch at the Lobster Hut in Plymouth with Jack. Lobster roll and clam chowder for less than $11.00. Delicious lunch and a great start to the weekend. Left for the cape about 3:00 pm after Janet got home from work. Sally and Janet did a little shopping on the way down to the hotel in Yarmouth. Also stopped for dinner so we didn't arrive at the hotel until around 8:00 pm. Saturday morning we left the hotel and headed out for a day of sightseeing. Jack showed us where he grew up in Dennis and the cottages that his family rented out to summer tourists. We stopped at several beaches where Sally added to her collection of sea shells. One of the beaches was Nauset beach which we both love. Many of the beaches on the outer cape are part of the National Park service and they charge $15.00 per car at each for parking. If you are 62 or over, you can purchase a senior park pass for $10 and you will never have to pay to get into a National park again. It saved us $45 in parking fees so it's definitely worth purchasing. Stopped in Eastham for breakfast and from there headed up to Provincetown. If you remember from last years blog, provincetown is at the tip of cape cod and is a haven for gays and lesbians. It's a great town for shopping and seeing the unusual. Headed back to Yarmouth late afternoon where we had a great lobster dinner at the Lobster Boat restaurant. After arriving back to the hotel, we headed down to the indoor pool to relax in the hot tub for a while. Sunday we headed for Falmouth which is on the east end of the cape. Sally had additional opportunities to add to her sea shell collection. Spent time at one of the beaches watching a group of people wind surfing. Overheard

Our friends Jack and Janet O'Connor
a conversation about another group of wind surfers that were out on Coast Guard beach when they saw a great white shark jump out of the water with a seal in its mouth. Needless to say, they all hightailed it for the shore. There was an article in Sundays paper about the shark sighting saying that the beach had been closed for the day following the shark sighting. Drove by the Kennedy compound and visited the Kennedy memorial as well as the Korean War memorial. Spent some time on Sunday morning in Hyannis. We also had the opportunity to climb up into a working light house which was really interesting. The lighthouse was in danger of falling over the cliff as a result of erosion so in the 1990's it was moved approximately 500 yards back from the cliffs edge. After another great day on the cape we headed back to Plymouth where we had dinner with Jack and Janet at an Italian Restaurant overlooking the beach. After a great weekend it was time to head back to the campground in Connecticut.

We really enjoyed Cape Cod when we were there several years ago and saw a lot of what you have seen. I'm glad you are having so much fun - wish we were there too!! We spent last week in Farmington, New Hampshire with our friends and ate a lot of lobster, went to some of the mansions in Newport, Rhode Island, it was fun. Be safe!! Love, Karen

You're in big trouble!!
Can't believe you were in Newport and didn't give us a call. We are only about an hour away and we could have driven over to see you and Roy!! Having a great time but we do miss the girls. We leave in about 3 weeks to head back home. Hope to take a more northern route back so we can see friends we were stationed with in Germany. Haven't seen the in about 25 years. From there heading to Branson Missouri and then on home. Next time you're that close you need to let us know. We don't get that many opportunities to see you and Roy! Love you both!!
