April 17th 2010

Tuesday 6 April - Sunday 18 April 2010 Rena and Nikki met us in La Paz to start our tour in Bolivia. It felt really nice having my sister and my friend join us in that part of our journey as we really needed some new energy - which the girl provided nicely! It was lovely seeing them both after such a long time, really was looking forward to the rest of the trip now. In Bolivia we visited La Paz, Uyuni, Potosi, Sucre and Santa Cruz. During our time in Bolivia it felt like most of it was taken up by travelling from place to place in public transport although we spent the last 3 days just relaxing in Sucre (the capital) which was really nice. La Paz We met the rest of our GAP ... read more

Monday 15 March - Monday 5 April 2010 From New Zealand we flew in straight to Santiago, Chile. After hearing about all the news post-earthquake in Chile, me and Narj thought it would be wise to fly straight out and start our journey in Peru instead. So we booked another flight from Santiago to Lima on the same day. Monday 15 March was a day from hell (which actually took me over a week to recover from). We ended up spending over a day travelling from Auckland to Lima and it was so so tiring!!! The flight from Auckland to Santiago took about 10 hours which was fine because we just ended up watching loads of films on the flight. Then there was the massive 10 hour wait in Santiago airport for our next flight. They ... read more

Thursday 4 March - Sunday 14 March 2010 After you've seen so many beautiful sights you just feel like its impossible to be impressed any further, but I can assure you it is because the beauty of NZ continued into South Island but was different as it was a bit cooler. Our journey around South Island consisted of the following destinations: Nelson - Westport - Lake Mahinapua - Franz Josef - Wanaka - Queenstown - Milford Sounds - Christchurch. Nelson and Westport We didnt get to spend that much time in Nelson due to our itinerary so only got one night here. Didnt see much at all really. What we did achieve was to become YHA members and gain a free nights accommodation :) Up to now, the Kiwi bus has connections with a franchise of ... read more

Friday 19 February - Thursday 4 March 2010 I have had the best time exploring New Zealand! Its such a beautiful country with the most impressive landscapes ever - completely loved it! Me and Narj spent approximately 23 days in New Zealand exploring both North and South Island and here's my summary on the North Island: Our route in North Island consisted of the following: Auckland - Paihia - Whitanga - Rotorua - Waitomo - Taupo - River Valley - Wellington. Auckland We arrived in Auckland on a Friday and had the weekend to explore the city. This was the first time in our journey that me and Narj actually split and went our separate ways as we both had family in Auckland that we wanted to spend time with. So I went off to Pukekohe ... read more

Fiji Tuesday 9 February - Friday 19 February 2010 BULA everyone!!!! From Australia we flew out to Fiji and I was extremely excited about it! :) After spending days roasting alive in a campervan feeling like I was living like a gypsy, I was looking forward to relaxing on gorgeous beaches with normal facilities (such as a shower) available at hand. We landed in Nadi and there's not much happening there. However we managed to sneak into another hotel to watch a tradional figian fire and dance show which was really impressive and extremely dangerous in my opinion. Dangerous because the guys performing threw fire around and up in the air and actually made mistakes. I thought I was going to get hit at one point - but it was good fun. Extremely fit male dancers ... read more

Friday 15 January 2010 - Tuesday 9 February 2010 Weekend in Sydney Sydney, Sydney, Sydney - what a fantastic place! Even flying over the city was great as we caught a glimpse of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge from the sky (which looked amazing)! My Ashok Uncle picked us up from Sydney airport as we were staying with him on Friday night. Even though we were feeling very tired and sleep deprived a little from Singapore (for various reasons) we got up early on Saturday morning to attend a laughter class with my uncle. OMG how hilarious it was! A group of random people get together very early on a Saturday morning to enjoy a class of laughter. During the class everyone partakes in random gestures and activities to make you and others ... read more

Wednesday 13 January to Friday 15 January 2010 Technically speaking we only really had a full day in Singapore as we arrived late on Wednesday and left early on Friday - however what an action packed day it was! After checking in to the nicest apartment in Little India and having a really good nights rest we set off early morning to catch the morning aarti (hindu prayers) in the local mandirs. We visited the Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple and the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple all very beautiful and colourful mandirs and we were lucky enough to join the morning aarti at one of them. It felt really weird being in Singapore, in particular staying in Little India because it felt like Leicester almost. We ate the best indian food there for dinner ... read more

January 11th 2010

Monday 11 January - Wednesday 13 January 2010 So then from mainland Malaysia we flew out to the Borneo side of Malaysia - Sabah, to Kota Kinabalu after being advised against travel there because of the monsoon. There was no monsoon there when we arrived, except a bit of rain which there was in KL anyways. Its funny because all the flights to and from Borneo were really cheap and when we had booked them we had wondered why - and then all was revealed. We arrived at night time with no accommodation so we stumbled upon a nice hostel after viewing 2 other not so nice ones (one which had a bunch of cats roaming around everywhere - and I'm not a huge fan of cats). We ate in the Rainforest Cafe and I ordered ... read more

January 2nd 2010

Saturday 2 January - Wednesday 11 January 2010 So we spent just under 2 weeks in Malaysia which felt adequate although we could have done with spending a bit more time exploring Borneo. Unfortunately with the monsoon hitting eastern Malaysia and Borneo we were advised against going but we went anyway for a day and it was fine - didn't really experience the 'monsoon' everyone was warning us against. Here's our time in Malaysia summarised: Penang After New Years we were kinda stuck in Koh Samui, well that's what we thought. All flights and trains going out were all fully booked - well obviously, but me and Narj did hope we would find something. And we did. We managed to get a random bus-ferry-bus from Koh Samui to Surathani to a place near the Thai-Malay border ... read more

Part 2 of Thailand was crammed with loads of random stuff over the space of 8 days and i'll try and summarise below (but believe me it won't do it justice): Chiang Mai So on Christmas day we decided to travel for the whole day from Siem Reap to Chiang Mai (you should really check out the distance between the two places because its mileage as we began to realise). So from Sieam Reap we caught a taxi to the Cambodia-Thai border which was random. Both me and Narj fell asleep on leaving out guesthouse to have our taxi driver calling us to get out the cab at the border. It was a little confusing (and I guess it didnt help much that both me and Narj were a bit dazed) but we kinda managed to ... read more
