I don't think I should ever try and be my own travel agent again. Getting to Santiago was quite the journey. Because in previous trips I have been frustrated by having to return to the same city and the end of the trip to fly home. So this time I had this bright idea to book a return trip to/from Lima, and then get myself to Santiago after. Well the gong show occurred a little something like this.... Flight from Castlegar Vancouver LA (1 night=$$) Lima (2 nights=sunburn, excitement to return) Santiago. It took like 3 days!LOL I have been in Santiago for 2 weeks now with a College here, IDMA, I have had 2 weeks of spanish (the first was a review of everything I already knew...so I didn't progress as I could have) ... read more

It felt weird doing a travel blog for South America without filling in the gap between now and my last trip. The last 2-3 years have been full of mini adventures around BC and getting my diploma in as a Recreation, Fish and Wildlife Technician. ... read more

Okay so I've actually been home for a month now or something like that. The flights all went well and my little bro picked me up and he was on time!!! This is mostly for the friends I made traveling, you can put some of it together now. Now the excitment of being home lasted about 3 days I think. I knew it would be like that but what do ya do? It was a big suprise for pretty much all my family. My mom and Dean were sooo happy and that made it all worth it for me. My mom dropped like 20 some pounds and now fits in all my clothes. It's cool because it works both ways and she's a pretty stylish lady these days. This year Canada has had more snow in ... read more

So of the plane and into the depth of my sisters new life. I arrived on the day of a celebration called the feast of booths. A little overwhelming but it was okay because everyone was so sweet and genuine, you could see it in their faces and smiles. Tessa was a little late, well got a little lost picking me up, and I was waiting outside on a bench for here when this girl started running towards me, she was dressed like I've never seen before and it totally shocked me. Her hair is getting super long and she looks different to me. Not only her appereance has changed though, her personality too, she's far nicer (not that she wasn't nice before). She pretty much waited on me hand and foot which was weird ... read more

All right this is my very last blog entry for SE Asia as tomorrow I fly over the big sea to Australia. So I arrived back in Bangkok and met again with Claire and Doug, I'm really going to miss them, I attempted a little shopping and then we headed to the Koh Tao, the "place" to dive in Thailand. Well, it is the place to dive, I had planned on taking my rescue course and when they said it would be $400CND I changed my mind and went for 10 fun dives instead, saved myself $150 and It was just fun no work. I got a sweet package with 5 nights free accommodation, 5 free breakfasts and 10 dives for $250, hard to beat that:) The diving was amazing, okay not like Sipidan but ... read more

I Resume editing am writing this blog entry on my sixth month point on this trip. Some places time goes so fast and others so slow. I've been in Laos for 19 days and it seems like a maybe week. So far this is my ultimate favorite country in SE Asia. The people are a kind of their own, very soft spoken, well-dressed, easy going and shy. It surprises me with the history of the country that the people are so kind and welcoming to foreigners, especially Americans. So.... in the 70's the US dropped over a billion bombs or something crazy in this country when they were at war with Vietnam. A lot of the bombs(I've been told) were dropped solely because the jets needed to drop them in order to have enough fuel for ... read more

Bangkok, Bangkok, Bangkok, is there anything I like about you? I'm trying to be positive in most of my writing but I REALLY don't get what the big hype is about Bangkok. Sure everything is at you fingertips on Kohl San Rd but it is all a big rip off. Maybe my feelings are somewhat altered because I wasn't feeling all that well while I was there and the hoards of other seemingly unapproachable tourists gave an unwelcoming feeling. I met up with a friend I met in Kuching, Greg, on my 3rd day there and we went around and did some of the sight seeing things like Buddha’s and temples. It was the Queens birthday so there was all sorts of celebrations and people all over the place. I'm not quite sure what all the ... read more

When I finally arrived in Singapore after the push and shove match at the boarder I checked into the Cozy Corner Backpackers Hostel and stayed 3 nights. For some reason I had my days all messed up and thought Tammy was coming my second night there. I was on my way to the airport when I had a little feeling something wasn't right and when I checked my watch sure enough I was a day early. What a disappointment, I still had 24 hours till she arrived. Now Singapore is a nice city and all but it's really not my thing. Everything is so commercialized and it seems like all there is to do is spend money and it's not cheap. Well I tried to pass the day by sleeping, reading and walking around but ... read more

Well I was glad to escape the huffel and buffel of the big city(KL), I really just can't do them for long, too many people. The original plan was to hit up Tioman Island after taking a little side trip to Cherating, a little eastern coast town, and then Singapore to meet my girl Tammy. Well... after seeing Cherating and meeting the fantastic group of people that I did I couldn't help myself, I just stayed. I don't know how long, 6 or 7 days, it was I think the most relaxing time I've had on my trip thus far. Cherating is pretty well known for it's Batik workshops, its making designs on fabric with dye and wax, and so I tried to discover an artistic side to myself and well I think I did. Maybe ... read more
