Jeonju.... I think this may be one of the nicest city's I visited. Though I only spent a day here I just really enjoyed the feeling the city has. There are not a lot of sky rises and overdressed people rushing around on tight filled day schedules. I visited the Hanok Village where Korean tradition is kept. There are around 800 traditional style homes and in the village that must be kept that way, the owners are not allowed to make modernized changes to their homes. I have to say thank god for my lessons on the subway with Jen in Seoul seeing's I had never been on one in my life before. The one here is much simpler only consisting of 4 lines which I easily got myself to my first destination stop with. Then searching for a hotel that no longer exists got me a little confused, but I got'er all figured out with my ever improving sign language/sherrades (sp) act. Funny story...... After a crazy fun filled, Karaoke singing, boot stompin, sojo drinking crazy night out in the big city of Seoul with Jenni and my new friends Brooke, Rich and Jason, Jen and I attempted the 7am wake up. The last few days have been quite chill. Besides getting totally mixed up and turned around on the subway there has been little adventure. Wednesday evening’s Jen and Jason usually meet up with some other teachers here and have a late dinner and drinks. So we went to this fancy restaurant with $8 Coronas and $15 Nachos. That's outrageous (makes me miss Central America), so it was draft for me, leaving me with a slight buzz on by the time we left. Good fun. I was slightly skeptical about wandering around this city alone today, being completely illiterate, but I found it a lot easier than expected. Jennifer had to work all day so I ventured out on a solo mission to hike the Inwangsan Shamanist Hillside. It is Seoul’s most famous shamanist shrine with Buddhist Temples, interesting rock formations (Zen rocks), natural springs and a fortress wall bordering it. Wow in the 2 days I've been here I've experienced a lot of Culture. Jen's been great filling my days with adventure even though she's has to work from 2pm till 10pm on the weekdays. There is so much to see here in the City and she too has yet to check out so it's great. So today I woke very early, 7:30am, got dressed and headed out to the subway with a piece of paper and written directions on where to go. Yesterday the 18th of March I finally landed in the buzzing city of Seoul, South Korea. I was met by a familiar face and a great big hug. And after a quick money exchange we were off. It took about an hour to get into the city and to Jennifer’s apartment by bus and subway. It flew by as Jen and I filled each other in on the events of lives in the past year. As I travelled more North it seemed to just get better and better, seems like the poorest countries had the more friendly people. Tourism is a lot less blown out here and that is very appealing to me . I met Jen here too and we are close to this day, i couldn't have asked for a better traveling companion! I miss her. Im just doing this for myself, oh and you too I guess, so I have all my trips on here. So bear with me and the next 3 blogs I do from 2004/2005. I spent a little over a month in Bocas del Toro taking spanish lessons and scuba diving. I hit up a few other places also including the San Blas Islands on the Caribbean coast which still to this day was the most sureal place I have been.
