Wow! Our time in Egypt flew by. We didnt have time to update the blog as we went so get comfy and read about our time in Egypt. The tour started off with a visit to the pyramids and the Sphinx. It was quite surprising as we were driving through the downtown part of Cairo and could see the tips of the pyramids imerging between the sky scrapers. They appear out of nowhere and are bigger than can ever be explained. There are 3 pyramids at this site including the Great Pyramid. We were able to enter the second largest pyramid - quite an experience. We had to climb down 37 metres (in the dark while bending over to the knees because the crawl spaces are so small) then climb back up 37 metres to the ... read more

Bags packed and filled with excitement we headed to the Athens International Airport. After a quick Heineken from McDonalds, yes they serve beer everywhere here, we boarded the 1 1/2 hour flight to Cairo, Egypt. We had heard horror stories about the hectic airport, taxi drivers waiting to scam anyone and all the continuous requests for 'baksheesh' (tips). Luckily missing all this we hopped into the cab and were off. The first thing that became very evident was the complete insanity that the Egyptian people call driving. There are no lanes at all and at many times there are 6 'aisles' of cars that are as close to each other as in a parking lot, yet travelling at 60 km's and weaving in and out of each other. They do not stop for pedestrians, EVER, and ... read more

We thought we better add an entry as we have receıved a few worrıed emaıls. To all, we are just fıne but have been caught up ın travellıng and not wanted to spend much tıme ın ınternet cafe. Here ıt goes . . . Went to Santorını, Greece and had a great tıme. The road our hostel was on was always busy wıth World Cup actıon aka drınk specıals. Ryan and Meg rented a quad and saw the entıre ısland (mostly because of gettıng lost). We made ıt up to the top of the ısland and watched an amazıng sunset. Photos are comıng soon. We went to a beach that was surrounded by red mountaıns and another that was full of black sand. Left after 4 days on a 4am ferry to Rhodes. The ferry was ... read more

We arrived in Athens to hot weather and bustling streets. Went to the Acropolis (an ancient theatre and temples). Three of us agree, not worth the money. Woke up early to catch a ferry to Mykonos. It is a sparse island with white and blue buildings- pretty much the stereotypical restaurant at home. Ryan and I found our 'cabin' but choose to upgrade to a room. The 'cabin' is maybe a bit bigger than a closet. Beach is beautiful with crystal clear water and a reef with fish and coral which you can walk over and dive into the Aegean sea. Staying here for a holiday from our holiday. Tans are getting dark and the suns really highlighting Megs hair- Ive gone back to my natural colour. hehe... read more

It has been a while since writing so am doing a quick catch up then post pictures when we get a chance. We are in a town called Finale Ligure on the Mediteranean coast. We flew from Eindhove in the Nehterlands to Milan and went straight away to a town callled Rimini. We lounged on the beach and relaxed. We then went to Venice for two days and loved it, went on a gondola ride, fed the pigeons, and walked the streets. Then we went to a tiny island called Ischia and again lounged on the beach. We went to Rome and saw the Coliseum and the Roman forum, then off to Pisa and saw the Tower. Now we sit in our tiny city waiting on the beach for our train later tonight as tommorrow we ... read more

Last Days......

Our South African adventure has come to an end. We went shopping at Green Market Square and picked up so much our bags are over flowing. We then went to the V & A waterfront, wandered around, took some pictures and watched the sun set (very pretty)! The next day we went and climbed up and down Table mountain. It was a beautiful view of the city. Looked like the postcards. Its a very flat mountain that allows you to see the entire city. It was a clear blue sky and very little wind. Definately worth the trip but climbing was never a good idea as Meg and Heather's legs are still sore 3 days later. It was a little tougher than expected but we got through it. Had a great flight. Boarded at 1130 pm ... read more

Wine Tour

Published: May 23rd 2006Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Stellenbosch

Yesterday we set out early in the morning to go to 5 wineries and sample wine. The weather did not co-operate (as is starting to become pretty customary with our SA adventures) All in all we had a great day: sampled some great wine and cheese and had a good lunch at one of the wineries. We head in to Cape town for tonight and the day tommorrow then 12 hour flight back to Amsterdam. Then . . . Bon Jovi in Njimegan, Holland in a big park!!! Girls are very excited and Ryan is too but not willing to admit it. He's getting his tight jeans on. Pictures anyone? Some wine tour piuctures and as promised under water pictures of the sharks! Oh yeah and Carolina cmae out on the winning side of a 4-3 ... read more
