So my good friend Steve and his girlfriend Julie had been talking about coming and visiting me while I was in Germany. Since he is a farmer he has been pretty busy until now. I talked to him about a week before my Thanksgiving dinner and he told me that he bought tickets to go to Europe. There first stop was Spain since Julie’s old roommate was finishing her student teaching there and I thought when is the next time my friends are going to be in Spain and I bought my plane ticket that day. I was flying into Malaga, [View Full Entry]

So being away from home is hard at times but I knew not being at home for Thanksgiving was going to be really hard. I had talked to some of the people that are living in North Rheine Westphalia about throwing a Thanksgiving dinner. Since I mostly have a little house to myself I decided it made the most sense to throw it here. I first had to talk with my host family to make sure it would be ok. I picked the Saturday after the real Thanksgiving to have it. I talked to my host family and we made an [View Full Entry]

So I had lived in Germany for about 4 months and I hadn’t had any visitors. My entire family all along had planned on coming and visiting me in March during my sister spring break but I told them if anyone wanted to visit earlier I would be much more flexible during the University phase. So my mother planned a trip to come in November. She was only able to stay about a week but I planned of making it a Germany filled week. She came on a Wednesday night to the Köln/Bonn airport. I thought it would be nice and [View Full Entry]

I have finally started feeling like I am getting use to living in my new town of Remscheid. I have been going to school now for about a month and that schedule seem to be feeling more normal. What better way to celebrate adjusting to a schedule than going to a couple of fun parties. One Classy When I first started at the University of Wuppertal I had heard that every year they have a Uni Ball. A couple of people in my program were really excited about the idea but I wasn’t sold. The Uni Ball was the first weekend [View Full Entry]

So my time in Germany has been great so far but I had yet to take a weekend trip somewhere. A couple of friends on my program had really wanted to go to Paris and I thought that sounds like a great idea. We planned to spend a whole weekend in Paris starting on Friday afternoon/morning and leaving on Sunday night. Of course plans don’t work out real great when you wait until the day before you leave to buy the tickets. I got a ticket leaving on Friday and getting in at 4:00pm by train but I couldn’t take a [View Full Entry]

Hope that everyone is adjusting to the cold weather. I heard that Minnesota already got its first snowfall in October. My October was filled with adjusting to my new town and trying to figure out school. I am studying at the Universtät in Wuppertal for only a semester. My program told the school I would be studying Wirtschaftwissenschaft and Geschichte or Economics/Management and History. In the beginning of October I had to go in and register with the school. My first sight of the school one word came to mind “Ugly”. It didn’t help that it was a rainy day but [View Full Entry]

Sorry that it has been so long since I have updated my blog but life has been very busy settling into the new town. I left Radolfzell to start a semester at Bergische Universität in Wuppertal, Germany. I will be studying Wirtshaftwissenschaft (Business and Economics) and Geschichte (History). While going to school I am living in another town not far away called Remscheid. This was the town that I first arrived in when leaving Radolfzell. My host family was eagerly awaiting me at the Hauptbahnhof. My first week in Remscheid was filled with spending time with my new host family and [View Full Entry]

My last week in Radolfzell was bittersweet. I knew that I would be moving on and I would be able to see a new part of Germany and that was exciting, but I also knew that I was going to miss the people I had met and become so close with. The last week was filled with finishing up language classes and getting things ready for the move. The language school was a really great place to get my German up to speed and the small town was also very nice for starting my year in Germany. The living situation was [View Full Entry]

This weekend I went to Oktoberfest in Munich Germany. I feel like this one doesn’t need too much explanation of what it is since this is one German Tradition that most Americans have heard about. We all had a great time and in the end only left behind 2 people out of around 15 so I think that our trip was pretty successful. Munich is about a 4 and a half hour train ride from Radolfzell and since we were going to be such a large group round trip it only cost us 10 Euro’s. We all met at 6 in [View Full Entry]

I hope that this blog entry finds everyone well and enjoying the end of warm weather and the beginning of fall. I have to say that the weekend I went to Zurich made me realize that the warm summer in Germany is over. We have started having some very cold days and not the warm days at the lake like I had in August. This weekend I decided to go on a day trip to Zurich with a group from my program. We had heard it might be a little wet on Saturday so I decided to go to Karstadt Sport [View Full Entry]
