I hope this blog entry finds everyone doing well and enjoying the end of summer. I recently spend a weekend in two cities in the Black Forest. The Black Forest in Germany is called Schwarzwald, which translates out literally to Black Forest. On Saturday I went with a group of about 10 people from my program and went to the town of Triberg. This is a relatively small town and is pretty touristy. The town also has the highest waterfall in Germany. That was our first stop in Triberg and it was a very pretty hike up around the waterfall. So I have been in Germany for about 3 weeks already and I wanted to share a few of my weekend adventures. Being in Germany has brought me very close to many different towns and each town has it very own festivals and I swear they have a new one every week. The town of Konstanz is about a 30 minute train ride from Radolfzell so that was naturally our first weekend plan and it also just so happened that on the first Saturday it was also a festival called Seenachtsfest. I left early with a group to explore the town [View Full Entry]

My adventure in Germany has officially started. After spending the couple of days in DC with my Dad my program seminar started. I met all of the participants from all over the country. The ages are mostly 1 year out of college or just finished college. Everyone I have met is really nice and I have had a really good time getting to know people from states I have never been to. The seminar at Georgetown took was about 2 days. We went to lectures about culture shock and more details about the program. On the second day the program director [View Full Entry]

My first stop on the way to Germany is a seminar in Washington DC. During the seminar we go over important program information and even go to classes about the culture shock that we are going to have. Since I had never been to DC I really wanted to tour around the city and I thought my father would love to go as well. We arrived in DC on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all the crazy cheap ticket websites me and my father had to take separate flights and even went to separate airports in DC. It was a huge pain [View Full Entry]

The little "Quaint" town of Drayton in Rural North Dakota The lake cabin I knew would be the last time I would see all my friends together for a year. I had to say goodbye to Nate for a year since he had to go back to Ohio. I knew that everyone in the cities I would see at least once more before I left. Seeing my friends Steve and Julie meant a trip to rural North Dakota. Steve and Julie were in the cities for a wedding and they said they would take me with them back to Drayton. My friends and I have always talked about how great it would be to have one of us own a lake cabin. Since I got the opportunity to live and work in Germany I knew I wouldn't be able to buy the lake cabin. :) Once my friends found out I was leaving them for a year we all decided to rent a lake cabin in northern Minnesota. My good friends Claire and Steve took the lead and searched the internet for places. Since we are all just out of college none of us expected much. The place they found was [View Full Entry]
