We woke after a good nights hotel sleep. And made a great discovery. The breakfast at the hotel was a buffet. Well didnt we take that little horse to town! We waiked out of there with a copius quantity of butters, jams, boiled eggs and cheese, it was litterally falling from our pockets. Busted out of Adana city and headed towards Ceylan. To be greeted by the kind of headwind that would scupper a Sydney to Hobart yaht! This belting headwind was total punishment and forced us to about 8 km/h, crap pace! The only good thought was that as we [View Full Entry]

Sunset

I woke early to try and get on the road to catch Spider. I sent him an email with the story. With a hand-drawn map of how to get to Adana I set off for Nidge. I rode along the realtively flat ground making good time. But at the same time I was racked with thoughts of where the hell Spider was, how did we loose each other, and how hard had we stuffed up to get in this position so early in the game. My words of a few days ago echoed in my head 'if we can get the [View Full Entry]

I woke early with one thing in mind. To find the freak. I sent a quick email to him, telling him what my story was. Armed with a hand-drawn map of how to get to Adana I said goodbye to my new best friends and headed into the fray. The terrain was pretty easy going but I was racked with terrible thoughts of what could have happened to Spider. I was also pissed at the apparent communication breakdown and that we had stuffed up so hard, so early on. My words of a few days earlier were ecohing in my head [View Full Entry]

We woke early to a great little day. The sun was out, we werent too spanked from yesterday and had had a good sleep. The morning ride greeted us with a smashing 5km or so downhill run. We belted down it with the mountain on our left coming out to play in the sun, and stretching ahead and below us vast fertile plains. The bike and trailer worked really well on the downhill run, wıth both rolling together as one unit. I was pretty happy with this as it was the first time id got any kind of pace up on [View Full Entry]

Stardate, 17th december. Some minor problems with the craft..... Today was the big day. The start of our bikeride through the middle east, central asia, and russia. Last night i found it hard to sleep, nervous energy sourging through my body. I tossed and turned, constantly thinking about the road ahead, did i have enough gear, would my skinny white legs hold up to the challenge. After several hours of this mental tooing and frowing, and rolling around in bed i managed a few hours of fitful sleep. The insecent monophonic noise of Spiders alarm woke us at about 7am. We [View Full Entry]

Good sunset
The first camp

It well and truly begins here. While i am writing this about three weeks after it happened (im not a very dedicated blogger at the moment), our arrival in Goreme in central Turkey marked the start of our bike ride. We collected our mound of stuff from the bus and were greated by a bloke from a local pansyion. Being laden with a large amount of stuff we accepted an offer for a ride to his place. Here, in the shadow of the famous fairy chimneys we reassembled our bikes and began preparations for the ride. Later that night we met [View Full Entry]

Preparations in full swing

Now begins the second part of this little tale. It starts where many great journies of the world have started, in Istanbul, Turkey. This was my fourth or fith visit to Istanbul in the last couple of months. But this time it was a little different. Why i hear you ask my dear reader. Well, it marked the start of a bike ride from Turkey through the Middle East and Central Asia and onto Russia. Having never done any long distance cycling before, and to be honest not a great deal of short distance cycling, i was feeling a bit of [View Full Entry]

Egypt or bust Africa » Egypt
With some saddness but many good memories of Jordan; Josh, Stevo and I departed for the promised land of Egypt. While Egypt was not really on my itinerary to begin with, the idea grew and grew on me the more i thought about it. And hanging out some more with Stevo and Josh sounded like a great idea. We boarded the ferry from Aquaba in Jordan and headed towards the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Ill be pretty brief with this diary entry. I promise no boring stuff abou Egypts history or currenty sociapolitical environment! But needless to say Egypt was one [View Full Entry]

Felucca on the Nile

Soooooooooo After my little soujourn to the UK I felt the desire to get back on track and head into the depths of the Middle East. In planning this trip I had very early on sought out Jordan as a place I wanted to visit. The vast desert landscapes, wonderous ancient city of Petra, and reputed amazing Jordanaian hospitality all conspired in my brain to get me there. And of course all these aspects and more of Jordan rang true. With a gait in my step I boarded Jordanain Airlines flight 816 headed from Istanbul to Amman. I was super stoked [View Full Entry]

Jerash, Jordan.
Petra, the rose city
Beouduin goat hearder girl.

Being a good Aussie guy I decided to take advantage of being in Istanbul and headed off to see some good friends in London. Needless to say this involved being exposed to Londons underground, Londons rain, Londons booze and an excess of Londons Aussie invaders. I took to all these things with a gutso, and only got lost in the city 16 or 17 times; honestly. I spent about two great weeks hanging out with Jimmi and Natasa, catching up and reminiscing, getting drunk and trying to reminise about the night before. Of course I did all the things a good [View Full Entry]
