TUESDAY 5TH MAY 2009 Had breakfast this morning at the hostel - some kitchen ladies served us rather grumpily - eggs, croissants, yoghurts, juice. When we left the hostel a short time later we actually managed not to get lost getting our of Lagos. We headed straight to Sagres which is still on the cost, but pretty much the most western point of Europe. First stop, without even realising we were there, was the Fortaleza de Sagres - essentially the fort. We got heaps and heaps of photos here as the place was pretty much deserted and the view of the [View Full Entry]

This travel blog is a little delayed, but thought best to write it before I start my much longer travels... so here goes. Saturday 2nd May 2009 Spent most of the night throwing up after leaving work early. Having had very little sleep, I managed to oversleep my alarm and basically throw on some clothes as the taxi was tooting out the front. Got to the airport before 5am and there was nothing open (Heathrow T3 I think). Finally the Wetherspoons opened and I grabbed some breakfast while praying that it would stay down, which it did. Also managed to choose [View Full Entry]

THURSDAY 9TH APRIL I was up at the crack of dawn again this morning, and once again I was among the first on our felucca to wake up. I lounged about for a while before someone else woke up and we headed over to the toilets. During the night the felucca had moved across the river, essentially to the side of the road where there was a cafe, lots of locals and two toilets. Better than nothing. After breakfast (more pita bread, eggs, cheese and stale cake with jam) we settled our drinks bill and tip kitty. We discovered we were [View Full Entry]

MONDAY 6th APRIL - ARRIVAL INTO ASWAN Woke up at about 5:30am or so having had an ok nights sleep on the seater train. At around 7am we got given our breakfast boxes. Keeping in mind that they had been sitting out all night long, they contained yoghurt. I don't think anyone ate their yoghurt, most people stuck to the mushy pastries and bread and juice. The steward person came and collected them (not an On theGo rep) and next thing we saw was all the polystyrene wraps and cling film wraps being throw out the window of a moving train. FRIDAY 3RD APRIL Flight is at 6pm so having taking all of my stuff to work with me, I left the office at 2:30pm. First time I have been back to Heathrow Airport since my arrival into London in March 2008 and the first time I had the pleasure of going through the infamous Terminal 5. Met Kylie before check in and after checking in and going through security we did the necessary last-minute purchases before heading to the Weatherpersons pub for a quick drink and snack. T5 is that upmarket that there was NO fast food place. They have plenty [View Full Entry]

10 February Flying out this afternoon but not until about 6pm so had plenty of time to spare before then. Had a bit of a leisurely morning given I saw much of the old town yesterday. Checked out of the hostel at around 9am and left my luggage in the hostel. Basically spent a couple of day seeing the last of the sights I didn;t get a chance to see yesterday. Got incredibly lost and ended up on the other side of town from where I was supposed to be but that does tend to happen to me. After a few [View Full Entry]

8 February Up very early this morning to get the 8am bus from Krakow to Bratislava (finally). Only two days late thanks to my inability to get my dates right. Having arrived by train five days earlier I had worked out where the central bus station was and so made it there, and to the right bay, with plenty of time to spare. Even had time to pick up food (loaf of bread and cheese) on the way. Only problem I ran into was that when I was trying to give my luggage to the driver to put underneath he kept [View Full Entry]

Poland, the end Europe » Poland
Massive apologies for lack of punctuation and any other typos that may follow... 6 February Got up early this morning again but was surprised to find several new arrivals in the kitchen. They had seemingly arrived to drop off their bags at the hostel and had been suckered in by the free breakfast. Got chatting to an Aussie guy who was supposed to have arrived three days earlier and had lost track of time in Budapest, so easy to do. After a leisurely breakfast and checking out I braved the very thick fog to go for a walk. Headed down to [View Full Entry]

Auschwitz and Salt Mines Europe » Poland
5 February - Thursday Today I was up early again and had breakfast with wacky Tom from the hostel - who works there. Think he is on something because he is way too chirpy for that time of morning!! No one else in the hostel is ever up at that time though. By the time I had finished my breakfast I had seen about two or three other people from the hostel total and then I headed across the road to a hotel to wait for my bus to pick me up for my Auschwitz and Birkenau tour. As per yesterday, [View Full Entry]

Poland - the start Europe » Poland
2 February - Monday Made it to the train station (via taxi) to get the 6:30am train to Warsaw. Managed to sleep most of the way despite a family with two kids being in the same compartment. Scenery (what I saw of it) was quite spectacular though - sweeping hills, open fields, all covered in white too which made it even nicer. I arrived into Warsaw, Poland at around 1pm or so. From there, the hostel was a short stroll away. I was staying at a place called Oki Doki which I think has a really cool name. Despite the several [View Full Entry]
