Romania continued... Europe » Romania
17 OCTOBER - SIGHISOARA Didnt intend to get up early this morning but ended up creeping around the room at about 8am and went for a walk. Walked round the city walls and up to the church. Quite pretty inside but nothing overly special in my opinion. Then it was a wander through another cemetary and into town. Grabbed some breakfast along the way too. Everywhere I seemed to turn though I ran into other people from the group who were also just out for a walk. At 1pm we all met in the hotel foyer to go up the clock [View Full Entry]

Romania - part 1 Europe » Romania » Maramures » Maramures » Baia Mare
14 OCTOBER - EGER TO VADU TZEI (MARAMURES) VIA DEBRECEN Early start this morning and had left the pension by 8am. Mode of transport on this very long travel day included a bus, followed by a train, then a tram, then another train, then private transport. We got to the bus station bright and early and found our bus. There was already a queue (of sorts) of locals waiting to get on. The boys took care of all of our luggage so that we could all hop on and make sure we all got enough seats. Turned out that wasnt really [View Full Entry]

10 OCTOBER - BUDAPEST Woke up bright and early so that I could absolutely exhaust myself by walking around for the next 7 hours. Pretty much walked half of Budapest. Started with the basicilla, heroes place, baths, various monuments and churches until I decided to go through the Horror Museum - all about the war. At the basicilla I climbed to the top, as I didnt realise that there was a lift. Got more than enough exercise... After lunch I headed to Castle Hill to see the palace and fishermens basion. Also went to the History Museum and spent a few [View Full Entry]

Arrival into 'pest Europe » Hungary » Central Hungary » Budapest
9 OCTOBER - ARRIVAL INTO BUDAPEST Up early to catch the (supposedly) direct train from Ljubljana to Budapest at 7:40am. Train was empty and basically stayed that way which was nice. I had a little six birth cabin thing to myself pretty much for the first four hours, except for a lady who came in at one stop and then left at the next stop 15 minutes later. So I stretched out and napped, not much else to do really! Train trip didnt end up being 'direct' as we all got kicked off the train at some station, put onto a [View Full Entry]

Days 9-11 in Slovenia Europe » Slovenia
DAY 9 - LJUBLJANA For some reason my body doesnt want to sleep past about 630am at the moment. Got up at 7am and tried to creep round the hostel room to shower which isnt easy, and was out by about 8am. Another one of the guys from the hostel was up so we went for a bit of a walking tour. Had the weirdest hot chocolate ever too!! It was almost like pure chocolate, only drinkable. Odd. Anyway started a walking tour at the town hall, through the cathedral and then finally up the castle. Got the funicular up (lift [View Full Entry]

DAY 7 - ZADAR Because of the time, when left luggage opened at 6am I left my bag behind with the intention of seeing what Zadar had to offer. At 6am, not much except rain and darkness. So I did a walking tour of a very empty city in the rain. By the time people started appearing and the weather started clearing it was after 9am. Nothing much was open so I after looking around the markets, getting some breakfast, I got some directions to my hostel from the guy at the information centre. You would think he would be able [View Full Entry]

DAY 5 - DUBROVNIK Woke up ridiculously early again this morning because the church bells were really loud. Basically veged around for a few hours before packing and moving to an alternative hostel in Lapad, outside the old city. Quite a few people staying at the hostel, which was more of a guesthouse, although seem to be excessive amounts of Americans. Didnt do much really given how much I had sqeezed into the previous days. Went for a very very long walk (6km return which I shouldnt have done in thongs (flip flops) on hindsight) all the way up to President [View Full Entry]

Dubrovnik - days 3 and 4 Europe » Croatia
DAY 3: SPLIT TO DUBROVNIK Woke up again relatively early to discover lousy weather so changed my plans slightly. I was going to have a beach day on an island but with cloudy overcast looking weather that clearly wasnt going to work. So I headed to Dubrovnik instead. On the way I got to go through my first border crossing, into Bosnia. Quite interesting, they basically did a passport check by getting on the bus but that was it. No stamp no visa, nothing. The they did the same when we left. Had about a half hour stop in Bosnia too [View Full Entry]

This is just going to be a very quick summary of my first couple of days in Croatia since I am still on the road. Day 1: SUNDAY 28. The flight was at 6am from Gatwick so in true fashion I let someone talk me into cancelling my hostel and instead go out for a few drinks. Got a taxi to the airport which was actually quite cheap although I arrived quite early. Slept pretty much the whole way on the plane though which was a distinct advantage! Woke up briefly as we were flying over the alps and took some [View Full Entry]

Sunday morning I woke up really early. Everyone else in my room was still asleep but given some of the girls had commented about lack of hot water the morning before I decided I would get up early and shower. After checking my email (which was quite difficult given the keyboard is completely different and even logging into my email was a challenge) I headed off to see some more of Brussels - this time while it wasn't raining. So I headed to Palais de Justice which was quite a hike. By the time it hit 9am I was able to [View Full Entry]
