This weekend I decided it was time to return to the English speaking world for a bit, I thought maybe it would be a good idea since I will be returning to the U.S. in three weeks time and thought it would be a good way to make me appreciate my francophone world, I also went because I had a friend who lives there that is also studying down here in France with me and I got to see London through the eyes of a native, right down to driving in a car with the steering wheel on the right hand side of the car! It was a pleasant time in London. My first day there was your usual touristy stuff, Big Ben, London Eye, Museums, and Westminster Abbey. I stayed at my friend Vicky’s house, ... read more
Before heading off the Athens, we had thanksgiving at our apartment, French style, although it had all the comforts of home, stuffing, gravy, TURKEY (yes we found turkey!!), mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, you know the works, it was so tastey! Elly’s dad came for the weekend, and helped cook our splendid feast, it was great to meet her dad, he is so much like her. Our director also came over to enjoy a real American/French style thanksgiving, which was fun to have a house full of friends and family. Now for the story of Athens, Greece. So it all stated on a miserably rainy Thanks giving day in Antibes, Danielle, my friend studying in Italy was flying out of Nice in the morning and was coming that day to have turkey day dinner with us. But ... read more
Well after the long week of having mom here it was time to get back to my crazy traveling schedule. This time around I stayed within France, which is really something I wish I could do more often because there is just so much to see here. Our program provides excursions, so for this time around we took a road trip to Avignon, France. It has come in handy only having three of us in the program this semester, makes the whole traveling thing a lot easier with our directors. It should be interesting next semester for them because there is going to be twenty students. Anyway, we took a road trip from Antibes to Avignon making a stop in Arles along the way to check out some Roman ruins there, such as the amphitheater which ... read more
Well mom finally made it, signaling that I have officially lived in France for two whole months!!! AH so crazy. It was so great to see my mom, she looked a little travel weathered when I picked her up, but can you blame her, it was a good 18 hours of traveling, just to come see me, that’s when you know your momma love ya!! Well our first night together consisted of us resting in my apartment, cooking a fantastic dinner of BBQ chicken pizza, and catching up. Our second day I gave her the tour of Antibes, showed her the beaches, the open market, and the different little look outs around the town. For the weekend we decided to go to Italy, Cinque Terre, which are five little fishing villages nestled in the cliffs of ... read more
This weekend of the 26-29th of October I went to go visit my friend Danielle who is studying over in Turin Italy. It was a bit of a train ride to get over there, took about 8 hours when it should have only taken 5 due to the lovely construction, but when I got there it was all worth it. Our first night I meet her roommates and some of her friends. We made tacos which were pretty amazing and watched footloose!! Hehe. The next day we went to the HUGE open market downtown, and of course I found yet another scarf to add to my collection. We went up to this church on a hill overlooking the city and watched the sunset while drinking amazing hot chocolate. We then had an amazing dinner with true ... read more
Well it has been a while since I have written, sorry about that been a bit crazy and really haven’t had a lot of time to update. The weekend of the 19th and 20th of October we ventured over to Camargue, France, the south western part of France. And boy did it feel like the west, the wild wild west of France. We went and saw bulls, rode horses, and saw French bull fights, which James so graciously participated in for our entertainment hehe. It was sooo cold, but it was fun to see another part of France. We met up with students from the other locations in France who are in the same program as us, and I ended up meeting a couple other students from Western. It was fun meeting new people and venturing ... read more
This past weekend I set off for the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. It all started out as a good idea. We found airfare online flying out of a different airport about 2 hours away from us for a fairly good price, all we had to do was take the train and we would reach the airport. So Thursday night came and I went to the train station to meet the girls I was going with and they were late, so of course I stated to freak out, the train was running a bit late too (thank god) so I tried to stay calm, but they still had not gotten there. Then the train arrived and was in a hurry to get out because it was running late, so in my broken French I started yelling at ... read more
Sorry it has been a while since I have written in my journal, traveling and school has prohibited me from writing. The weekend before I went to Paris and saw all the lovely sights there, Eiffel Tower, Le Louvre, Arc de Triumph, Notre Dame, Luxemburg gardens, and the many beautiful parks of Paris. I can’t remember the last time I walked so much in my life. We seriously walked the entire city of Paris. We went all over from the top of the city to do some shopping at the “Marché au puce” or in English the flea markets. We took the metro a lot too; I definitely got my feel of the metro that weekend. Paris was just as amazing as before, except it was during fall, so I got to see all the beautiful ... read more
Well it has almost been a month here in good ol’ France, which I can hardly believe. Things are starting to pick up at little bit more at school, and frankly it is kind of hard to get into the grove of things. But I think I am just going to spend tomorrow at the library studying and catching up on my school work. This weekend we are going to Paris!! Yay, I love Paris, such an amazing city, I am so excited to take lots of pictures of the Eiffel Tower and all the amazing sights that the city has to offer. So far I have planned three trips, Paris, Geneva, and Athens!! I can’t wait for all these dreams to come true. Next I want to plan a trip to Prague, Rome (Hopefully with ... read more
Well I have officially been in France for two weeks and it really is beginning to feel more like home. I had my first week of school, all three days of it, and it was pretty neat. Their system here is a bit different then what I am used to, we have class once a week for three hours (a bit long, but having class once a week makes it worthwhile). This week went by super fast, I feel like I have done so much! Monday-Wednesday I had class, Thursday I went to Carrefour, a huge Wal-Mart esk like store (except for their prices), and was super overwhelmed, it had everything you could think of (minus brown sugar). Friday we went to Nice, took some amazing pictures, went to the beach, and went to the Musse ... read more
