Before I start getting on this blog I just have to say sorry for all the photos and the probable waffling on.....but this has to be the best tour that I have ever been on and the most amazing place that I have ever visited!!!!! Words are not going to be able to describe what we experienced in the four days that we drove around the southwest region of Bolivia, and of course the photos do no justice. Though saying that I have attached a tonne just to try and convey what this area is like. Our tour was going [View Full Entry]

After a hell bus ride down an extremely bumpy road where I could not sleep, even after having two sleeping tablets, we made it to Tupiza. I usally donÂīt take any tablets when I go on the buses as I have been having no trouble sleeping but one of the girls had some and since I was with other people I thought why not. Think that they worked for all of 2 hours and then I was awake for most of the bus trip thinking I was going to die. The road is unpaved with lots of pot holes, all [View Full Entry]

After a short ride in a bus from Sucre I arrived in a town called Potosi. At first glance I would say that this was the hotdog captital of the world as everywhere along the streets there were hotdog stands, not oneÂīs were you could get a hotdog to go, but one with packaged hotdogs, rolls and condiments to buy. I thought that this was quite strange and was mind boggled by the number of stalls along the streets....it was never ending. Potosi is also known as the highest town in the world, it is at 4070m above sea level, [View Full Entry]

After a quick stop in La Paz to find myself a new camera I jumped onto another bus and headed east this time to a town called Sucre. Sucre was where the declarion of independance occured and was once the policitical capital of Bolivia before La Paz took over the title as capital city. The Supreme Court is still found in Sucre and the town still holds importance within Bolivia. I had been told that the town was beautiful and on arriving I was stunned to see the buildings in this place. I felt like I had left Bolivia and [View Full Entry]

After a few more hectic days in La Paz, and one last big night out with Emily and Ben as we were unlikely to see each other again in Sth America, I jumped on a bus and headed to Lake Titicaca. I did have to change my plans slightly as my camera decided that it wanted to break, so while it was getting fixed I headed here for a few days, it is also the reason for no photos for this town. Lake Titicaca is a 3-4 hour bus ride from La Paz and is actually on the border with Peru. [View Full Entry]

After nearly 2 weeks in La Paz it was high time to get the hell out of there for a while and see another side of Bolivia. Along with my trusty Hardcore Adventures, Emily and Ben, we picked up another Aussie Adam to head north to see the Amazon Basin. The night before we left we all accidently had a long big night in La Paz, when would we all be back in La Paz was the arguement I seem to remember. So that meant that the day we were flying, yes we took the luxurious option of flying rather [View Full Entry]

So after a big long weekend with birthday celebrations I decided to join a group of friends and try our luck mountain biking down what they call the Death Road. Thinking that I would have recovered enough from the weekend I booked in and was just going to hope for the best. I woke on Monday morning feeling a little vague, something you donÂīt really want to be feeling on a day you are going to apparantly risk your life. An early 6.30am start saw us walking in the cold to the tour office for breakfast, where we loaded up [View Full Entry]

After about 12 hours in transit after flights being cancelled and my route changed, I finally arrived into La Paz, Bolivia. I was meant to arrive at 3am in the morning but instead arrived 7 hours later and I was happy that it was daylight as I got a great view when coming into land. I had intended on catching a taxi to get to town but once I got there I found out I could catch a mini bus for all of 80c, so I thought that IÂīd just throw myself into it. As I was sitting in the [View Full Entry]

So when in Rome do as the Romans do they say.....so I took this on board and decided to do as the Rio locals do and go and see a football game in the country that does it best. Now this was no ordinary game as everyone was full of anticipation as one of the Brazilian greats was on 999 goals and they were hoping that he might kick one more goal in this game. So the scene was set for a big one possibly and I was hoping to be there and see history in the making. The player [View Full Entry]

After a few days of contemplating whether I wanted and needed to go on a tour to see a favela in Rio, I decided to go. The Favelas are basically slums where people are living in housing that has been built randomly and without any permits, and there are quite a few in Rio. The favela that I visited was called Rocinha and is the largest favela in South America housing approximately 250,000 people. It is situated in the middle of Rio and flows up the hill and more houses just keep getting built. The favelas are not segregated from [View Full Entry]
