In Sydney, Australia So we arrived in the airport around lunch time and experienced the high security and strict customs laws in place. The forms for customs were hard core and I was worried I would forget to declare something and get a fine of $200! When we collected our bags the sniffer dogs were going round and checking everyones bags and peoples suitcases were being emptied and searched. It was quite nerve-racking especially because we had come from Africa and nearly everything was bound to need quarantining if they found it. Luckily, we got a guy who obviously didnt [View Full Entry]

Journey to the end So after such an eventful easter weekend we set off again on the big yellow bus heading for Botswana. The heavy rains seen in Malawi had clearly been here because the roads were flooded and the border crossing into Bostwana was so far under water we had to take a boat. We stopped at a campsite that had been hit hard by the water, the actual campsites were flooded so we camped on the road and they had a temporary bar in place because the other one was out of bounds, there had even been sightings [View Full Entry]

Sunday I woke up terrified, today was not going to be a good day, I already had a sickening feeling right down in the pitt of my stomach, one that I couldn't shake off. My head was buzzing with questions, 'was I really ready to do this? Was I mad? Was I even going to go through with it? I had jumped out of a plane but could I really plunge 111m head first over Vic. Falls???? I didnt want to admit it but I was very afraid, I didnt have to admit it because people took one look at me [View Full Entry]

And so the madness begins... Livingstone is south of Zambia, just on the border between Zimbabwe and is home to one of the natural wonders of the world- Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders). It's a small town that massively benefits from the tourism generated by the biggest falls in the world. Named by the scottsih explorer David Livingstone, Victoria Falls is formed from the fast flowing Zambezi River and cracks in the ground, which now form a zig zag gorge around them. We just happened to visit it when the water levels are at a 50 year high, [View Full Entry]

House Boat Party Africa » Zambia » Lake Kariba
House Boat Fun So we had journied through Malawi and had rubbish weather, but as we crossed the border into Zambia, quite literally the sun was shinning on the other side. We did have an awful journey to get to Lake Kariba- our truck sunk into loose stones and ruble near a building site and had to be towed out by a JCB and then the road that followed was only like 60k but took us 4 hours along all the pot holes and bumps in the road. We arrived just in time to watch the stuning sun set over [View Full Entry]

On the road again.. So after the luxury R&R we returned to the truck and back on the roads which were slowly getting worse as we headed south. Our next port of call was Lake Malawi- the 8th largest lake in the world, lake Malawi spans the length of the country and is also said to have more species of fish in it than any other lake in the world. Our mission in Malawi was really to make it to the other end, well Zambia anyway. Our journey didnt get off to the best of starts, when we stopped to get [View Full Entry]

ZANZIBAR ISLAND So after all the wild animals in the national park, the truck drove us down to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania's busy capital. We were only here though to catch the ferry to Zanzibar one of the Spice Islands off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean. What an absolutely beautiful place and I recommend it to everyone. Stone town is in the South and it's where we spent our first night. With its 19th Century buildings closely packed together forming winding alley ways all through the town its easy to get disorientated- every narrow street leads [View Full Entry]

So after long drives through Kenya and Tanzania, we were actually going to do something, and this was huge. The Serengeti is a National Park in Tanzania that is home to nearly all the wild animals you associate with Africa, this is were the Big 5 live and many more. The big yellow truck- Tokoloshe (that's it's name) stayed behind and we jumped into 5 Landcrusiers that took us into the Serengeti. We stopped for lunch just after entering but were soon being circled by eagles. We felt like prey, as they would swoop lower to take a look we were [View Full Entry]

So it's been a really long while since ive had the chance to update this, today is not actually the 16th of March and i'm not in Kenya but i thought I'd start at the correct date and start from the beginning. Southern Cross- Absolute Africa Safari, 33 days Nairobi to Johannesburg So we actually arrived in Nairobi on the Friday the 13th after flying Ethiopian Airways from Addis Ababa, but the tour only started on the Monday so we stayed in The Heron Hotel until then. We enjoyed really tasty food in the restaurant and lounging by the pool for [View Full Entry]

So, we visited the castle on the saturday and on sunday travelled to Anamabo beach- 15 minutes drive from our town. It was paradise, a secluded and private white sand beach lined with palm trees and straw umbrellas. It felt more like a caribbean island than a beach in Ghana. It was the kind of place I'd imagine spending my honey moon with beach huts seconds away from where we sunbathed. The sea wasn't that crystal clear as the waves were quite strong but swimming in them was as safe as you can get out here, so the 4 of us [View Full Entry]
