Welcome to the adventures (or non-adventures) of me!

In January 2007 I decided to have a bit of "me time" after I was granted leave from work for 8 months. Now im back home (and the feet haven't stopped itching) and life is very confusing (what do I want to do?) im left the only solution I can come up with, and that is to plan another big trip.

So as I begin saving and working again, I will live off the memories of the places I have been, and the desire to visit the places I haven't.

Hopefully my blogs can help you, inspire you make you laugh (on the odd occasion something I write may actually be funny)!

Sometimes when im at work I think about how crappy it is, Dirty nappies, Sputum flying at my head, Vomit on my shoulder, a million and one things to do without an option of squeezing in a break. But my work conditions, stress and energy requirements are nothing compared to that of the mining men (and Boys) of Potosi. Postosi is 3967mt above sea level and was founded in the 1540's, a town that became well known for its silver mining. As Gringos we had the opportunity to visit the mines of Cerro Rico to learn about the life of the miners. After suiting up in vinal pants, tops, gumboots, belt, hardhard (with light) and Battery, we headed to the miners market to purchase some gifts for the miners. At the shop we were introduced to ... read more

So after a hot agonising bus ride of tossing and turning to the Argentinian border town of La Quica, Arin and I made it over to Villazon "Yay" (Bolivian side of the border) very early in the cold cold morning! I ripped open my bag and pulled out all my thermal underwear, scarf, beanie and gloves and proceeded to wear them all, as well as any other warm clothes I could find in my bag! The border crossing was uneventfull, the immigration officer seemed more interested in a TV soap than my passport, then he said "Australia?" with a grin, "Si" I replied, he then just nodded to himself and returned to his soap. That one word was the most he said the whole time I was in the office. Weird. So much to Arin and ... read more

So, here I am again, sitting in a net Cafe, wondering what the hell all of you out there would find particularly interesting about what I have done in my most recent travels! From where I left off, I was in BA saying farewell to my friend Jem, then hopping on yet another overnight bus to Mendoza, Argentina's wine region! I had heard so much about all the great and interesting things to do in Mendoza, but in all honesty I was a bit dissapointed. There are opportunities do do some rafting but I was too disorganised to arrange one within my time limit. But I did however manage to hire a bike from hell and visit some winearies, which proved for an interesting afternoon. Imagine smooth, flat dirt roads lined with trees that cascade over, ... read more

Well, what can I say, Patagonia is truly one of our worlds delights, a great excape from city life and a chance to get some fresh, and cold, air. I must admit, Buenos Aires was getting me down, I regret not using my time more wisely whilst I was there, maybe improve my spanish by attending some classes, possibly some volunteering, but I dont miss working with children that much.Anyway I was hanging around waiting for my friend from Melbourne, Jem, to join me for 2 weeks. I had already booked some flights from BA to Rio Gallegos 2 days after Jem arrived and I couldn't wait to get the hell out of BA. Before we left, a spot of shopping for thermal underwear was required and im so glad we did, they were definately a ... read more

From where I left off, I had been forced to leave Brazil, and come to BA and I have been here for about a month, with a quick visit to Iguazu just to break it up (see previous blog). The hardest thing when I got here was trying to remember all the spanish I learnt back home, and switching from Portuguese to Spanish, I kept saying Obrigada instead of Gracias and things like that!! But it's ok folks, I now have it under control. However I get grief from Pancho, who works in the Hostel, that I should speak more spanish than what I actually do. I have set myself up in a hostel in San Telmo, an area in BA that has quaint little antique shops, cafes and one of the best steak houses ever! ... read more

As the bus drew nearer to Iguazu Falls, I got more and more excited, I could see the mist rising in a part of the forest a couple of Km's away. As we entered the park we rushed to the mini train station, ditching the walking path, and boarded the train that would take us to the Falls. Unfortunately it was also raining, only lightly, but enough to get decently wet! I was swearing to myself, I had definately brought the weather with me, Buenos Aires had been covered with rain for a few days before I left. I was assured that the rain would make for great for the Falls, as the water level was a little bit higher than normal. My Brazil crew (Pato, Craig & Lisa) and I hung out in BA ... read more

As I woke up on the morning of the 21st March, I had no idea I wasn´t going to bed again for another 40 hours as I have my most interesting night in Brazil yet. I had a lot of fun, and yet not so much fun, a completly random night which ends in myself and 3 other Australians being forced to leave Brazil within 3 days. So sit tight and read on as I tell you about the night I got arrested in Brazil. I had spent most of the day hanging out at an airconditioned shopping centre, got a "pay by the kilo" lunch and the got worst haircut of my life. We also met this awsome Brazilian guy Luiz, who had travlled to Australia, spoke really good english, worked at the tourist information ... read more

As the title suggests, I find myself saying this sentance a lot, "Do you have extra large?", as my fat ass does not fit into tiny brazilian bikini bottoms. Maybe its also a hint that I shouldn't be wearing them at all, but I love being stubborn and i finally found a pair of bikini bottoms that fit me, Hooray!! (Please rejoice with me). Ummm... i just realised that I failed to recover this whole blog when the crash happened... oopps 2/10/2007... read more

Leaving Liverpool I had a delightfull 24 hours of flying ahead of me! But well worth it when I arrived in Rio! I felt fithy after sitting on a plane for that long, plus I was sweating like a bastard when I got here in my tracksuit pants and hiking shoes! Well, what can I say, Rio so far has been an adventure to say the least, I have had such bad luck, that im sure it can only get better! On my first day I headed to Ipanema beach (post 9) for some sun and down time! It was so hot, the sweat was pouring off me, it was an effort trying to rub the sunscreen in. I think it was only about 32 degrees, but the humidity was right up there! I hired an ... read more

After leaving Egypt I arrived in Liverpool to visit my Aunties, Uncles and Cousins, and to be greeted by SNOW! I was so cold! I only had one jumper and two pairs of pants! I was only in Liverpool for 2 days as a quick stop over before I hit South America! Due to this there I didn´t visit Tourist attractions as I have seen most of them before and wanted to spend time with "The Fam", plus it was my 7th visit! Thankyou to my loving family for their continuous warmth, hospitallity and insanity! Love you all!... read more
