What I wish I had had Waterproof walking trainers (suitable for use as walking boots if you need them and passable for everyday wear - a definite purchase for my next travels!) A sleeping bag (this one is debatable, as it might very well be in the last column had I actually brought it - it would have been useful at times but I got by without it and it is awfully bulky…if you take one, let me know what you think!!) What I was especially grateful to have A head torch (for use when in a darkened hostel room filled [View Full Entry]

I think this will probably be the last entry I write on my travels, so I'm disappointed in myself to have to tell you that you will probably find it lacking! Truth is, I wrote a GREAT one about 2 weeks ago, then the stupid computer crashed before I could post it, and we all know how hard it is to recreate a masterpiece! I think it's important, though, that I write about the Salkantay trek, which was absolutely AWESOME, so here goes... Tips for the eager Salkantay trekker - bring, like, ALL your clothes! Our tour company gave us some [View Full Entry]

...and it had only just begun! Big news in the world of Lizzie and Spud - Mark has arrived! Yay! It is fun to have an addition to the group, and such a welcome one at that (Faye almost peed with excitement before his flight got in yesterday)! Having spent the day wandering around central Lima, we are all travelling to Ayacucho tomorrow on an overnight bus, and from there, who knows?! Heading towards Cusco, ultimately...and anyone who read my last entry can guess how ridiculously happy I am about THAT! Much has occurred since I last wrote; Faye and I [View Full Entry]

So we have bombed it through a few more South American countries and ended up in the Inca capital of the world, Cuzco...I love this place so much! Steeped in culture but with the right mix of clubs and markets too (let's get our priorities straight, yes?!), it seems like the perfect place to be - and we're getting fitter from being at altitude! Yay! Slightly more headache-y as well, but that is by the by, especially when you are seeing views such as that of SexyWoman (cannot at present recall the actual name, but that's the phonetic spelling!) and, from [View Full Entry]

I just got a massive shot of excitement as I went to select my current location for the top of this entry and, having automatically selected Australasia, realised I am now in fact in Tango Land - South America!!! I don't actually believe I am doing this most of the time...perhaps I'll wake up and find myself back in Normandy Park and this dream will all be over! So Faye and I made it through the gruelling 30 something hours of travel from Christchurch to Santiago with almost no hitches, and even some sit ups at the gate to kill both [View Full Entry]

Some South Island friends
Some South Island friends
What a lovely bunch!
The continent that Faye and I have called home for the last 2 months will soon be far, far behind us as we jet across the oceans to reach Santiago, Chile! What a totally different experience we will have there! Had to write one last time before we left the glorious place that is New Zealand and fill you in on those last little details...the rest of Queenstown was awesome, as expected, and made even more so by the fact that Ele came down from Wellington for a mini break and we bungy jumped together! Apologies to Stephen and Rachel [View Full Entry]

Babes on the beach ;-)

Queenstown is officially a completely awesome place to be...the sun is shining so beautifully over the lake today, and the ground is littered with autumn leaves - all I want to do is be outside! We went out to celebrate our arrival last night, which turned into one of the most hilarious evenings of my life! We have made some great friends on our trip and it will be really really sad to leave them - special shout out to Polseth, Caitlin, Eddie and Pert for being so completely wonderful (and cooking for us lol)! Going down the west coast of [View Full Entry]

I cannot believe we have been in New Zealand for only over two weeks now! Apart from the fact that we had planned to be at least in Wellington by now, if not well shot of the North Island altogether (the best laid plans...), it amazes me how much we have been able to fit into such a short space of time! Being on the Kiwi Experience bus is an adventure in itself, involving meeting new people all the time - and unfortunately saying goodbye to them, which we've had to do already. Oh well, they all live in England, anyway! [View Full Entry]

So you know how you wake up in the morning, having grossly overslept and almost ALMOST missed the bus...and you have to make the decision between swimming with dolphins, visiting waterfalls, taking a boat trip around the Bay of Islands or kayaking...then you just sigh and look out of the window at the green rolling hills and the bright sunshine and think about the hardships you face. Well, NO, I guess you DON'T! I'll just have to tell you ALLLL about it!!! (No-one needs to point out that I am being very abnoxious...lol) We have arrived in the glorious place that [View Full Entry]

So we left Brisbane, much to my dismay both because I don't know exactly when I'll get to see Megs again, and also because that was the last time Faye and I are going to be able to cop accommodation/computers/showers/etc off of other people for a really, really long time! We have had such a cushy time of it so far - staying in the apt on Bondi, the house in Melbourne, and a house and apt in Brizzie, all with people who fed and watered us, and washed our clothes for us, in most cases! But now we are stuck [View Full Entry]
