Sunday. Sunday didn´t begin promising but I had a plan. It started at 10am when I woke up. I laid in bed for three hours. I read, tossed and turned, stared out the window and at the wall. At two a girl called to see if she could come and look at the room for rent in my apartment. I told her "Now isn´t a good time. I am going to go look at dinosarus but tonight would be perfect. I am making oatmeal cookies!" I stepped out with my adorable little black umbrella and headed for the B line. Once [View Full Entry]

There was a storm last weekend, in Buenos Aires. It lasted all weekend. I didn't know it was happening until it past. Angel storm. Dropping chubby little angels from the feathered clouds. Those little angels giggled and wiggled their toes. They came in all different shapes and sizes. Plop! Plop! Plop! They tumbled down. I found my first angel tender and new on Friday night. I was feeling sorry for myself. Then I realized a docu/fiction movie El Ultimo Bandoneón (a bandoneón is the accordian like instrument in a tango orquestra) was playing at the ritzy theater in Recoleta. I put [View Full Entry]

Where does one go to rinse off the slime that constantly oozes from the sky? Where do you go to sit in the dirt, smell the thick sweet smell of grass and let the sun suck the poisons out of your rotting body? Where do you go to be reminded, after all the delusions, we are or nature? The "sound of silence"....in San Pedro. Cowboys hats, angelic voices and twanging hearts. Rock-a-billies, bikers, hippies, abuelos, kids and the lost souls that stand like ghost amongst everyone. San Pedro´s fourth annual country music festival, which I stumbled on two weeks ago, was [View Full Entry]

March of this year, 2006, marked the thirtieth anniversary of the golpe de estado here in Argentina and literaly every day marks a new anniversary of the horror inflicted during the Dirty War. Last weekend was an especialy heart breaking anniversary because 30 years ago on September 16th 1976 a large group of teenagers were protesting the high cost of bus fare. 30 years ago 7 of these teens were kidnapped. And now, 30 years later, one survives. Please look at these faces and think about how things could have been different. [View Full Entry]

Jasmin whispers, salty breeze, and sunshine on our shoulders. These were the things waiting for me and Stephanie when we arrived in Colonia Uruguay. I had gotten only two hours of sleep the night before and warned Stephanie that I may be a pain in the ass. She said no problem we would take it slow. And so we did. Sitting under jasmin shade and eating mini sandwiches, walking through art galleries that spilled out more and more rooms of art, jiggling to samba music and best of all....just being hypmotized by the water. My most dreaded trip to Colonia and [View Full Entry]

Todat is a beautiful deserted morning. The air bites my cheeks as if they were apples. If we had to choose a color for today it would be yellow. The yellow top of a taxi, yellow bananas hanging on the wall, peek-a-boo of a yellow teeshirt as someone crosses the street. Yellow shopping bags, a yellow Golden Retreiver, yellow buildings poking up stubbornly like your hair in the morning. I´m not sure where I am. Across from Mercado de Las Pulgas in an amazing cafe. It is small and the tv, peoples voices, and the music (I think Armenian) are competing [View Full Entry]

I thought I died and had gone to heaven when I saw all the crap I could buy with Lujan on it
Today I went on my first pilgramage. I did not walk the 68 kilometers, or go crawling on my hands and knees....there were also no tears. Instead I hoped on the number 57 bus on its way to Lujan where Maria de Lujan, patron saint of Argentina, as well as protector of bus drivers and passangers, made her resting place in 1630. Considering her protecting me on all of my travels throughout the city I thought it best I go and visit with her. The bus ride there was by far the best part of the trip. Oddly after 6 months [View Full Entry]

...and use plenty of scabies medication. I am not really sure about what they are called here. Either: la sarna or escabiosis. And yup, I got them...or hopefuly in the very near future will be able to say....I had scabies. What a wild ride this one has taken me on. I am not sure when the symptoms started...about a month and a half ago. After first I was the silent victim. Then I caught F2 scratching. I asked him if he was itchy a lot and when it happend...he said it started a couple of days earlier. When I was [View Full Entry]

Lew asked me a couple of months ago what my favorite flowers were to plant in his garden. I told him dahlia...he just sent me photos today of my dahlias...how my heart sang and tears flowed
I have to be honest. This thing I am doing is hard. But hard isnt the right word. It is more than hard. It is difficult painful lonely painstaking ruthless desperate frustrating .... and heartbreaking There have been other difficulties too. Mainly that I love Buenos Aires. Today I rode the subway up to Villa Crespo for my first Spanish class. My face was drawn and I looked at people accompanied with someone else. I envied every single couple of friends or lovers because they had something that I didn´t...a coupledom. Oh how lonely lonely lonely my [View Full Entry]
