I am not a tidy baker. And it seems that whenever I bake more of the ingredients get dumped onto my clothes then into the bowl. Today in my haste I spilled a 1/2 cup of sugar onto the floor and all over my feet. Of course I swept up my mess but I still havent had time to clean out my toes. Due to the sweat and humidity my feet are gritty and sticky. The crevices between my toes are black from dust and sweetness. I like it. This week has been a delicate balance of unrelentless stress and still [View Full Entry]

Pura Sangre
Pura Sangre
The movie opens today, April 5th
I have lived in Buenos Aires for over a year and all around me, in the expat community, I have met people that get amazing opportunities. People who are invited on amazing weekends, elaborate dates, and to fantastic parties where they rub elbows with top models and fashion photographers. While I have gotten small glimspes into these lives I felt that I was really lacking in the "cool factor". My life is mainly just sleeping in my bed, watching tv, lusting after "Biteable Boy", the local waiter, and teaching. I felt like some how I was missing out on these [View Full Entry]

Getting ready

Iīm doing my usual A.D.D. activity. Moving from intended activity - to booty poppin practice in the mirror - to intended activity - to cleaning house. The cycle then repeats itself. Over and over again. Today my intended activity is packing. After one year and a glorious hot summer I plan a big trip. I leave Buenos Aires on the first day of fall and the day after walk off the plane in Indiana...stepping into Spring. Two seasons...12 hours. A moment ago I was hanging out my window, pulling out my line dried clothes, and realized for the first time I [View Full Entry]

Febuary 20, 2006
The day I arrived in Buenos Aires
At first I thought when the time came I would write a "Buenos Aires: Greatest Hits" entry. A retrospective. I hate retrospectives. Iīm glad I remembered this before I started the entry... My first year anniversary has come and gone. Marked to the date. Circled in red felt tip pen. Counted down. And now, sadly, passed. I realize life is fluid. I have changed since Tuesday. I am starting to be confused about relationships and my ideas of Buenos Aires have changed profoundly in the spare moments it takes a train to pass a field of corn... There are fields of [View Full Entry]

this is what happens when Killian gives you warm clothes to wear
I just realized that I have worked very few summers of my life. This summer, with very few students and no desire to work I have had a lot of time on my hands. So what have I been doing? Studying Spanish. On tuesday in a conversation I got to use the subjunctive. I dont know if I used it correctly...but I used it in a natural conversation and I was very pleased with myself. I dont think anyone noticed my use of the subjunctive...but it was a glowing moment for me just the same. I have also been drinking beer [View Full Entry]

To my relief, and tinsy bit dismay, the clouds have crowded in and the air stirs, bringing with is a breeze that cools and the hanging dread of rain. The past two days were unbearable at 36 C and about 97 F with very little cool off in the evenings. It was the kind of weather that made you say "estoy fastidiosa" ( I am annoyed/irritated). To fill you in on today....I have taken good advantage of the weather and have been cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. Thank you cleaning lady for being a bad cleaning lady and NEVER cleaning the living room, [View Full Entry]

Sitting in my little nest of pillows I look out at the gray sky and feel the light breeze coming off the river. I sit down and remember the love and magic of exploring. Not making decisions of where to go until I see what life is doing on the next corner. A secret. Buenos Aires is an amazing city, but itīs not a place for tourists. People come here for three days or a couple of weeks. I know what they do and the order in which they do it. They are a little bored (poor visitors on New Years [View Full Entry]

a sign in Nueva Palmira
The town is some how sterile looking, though the houses are brightly painted and loud splashes of color burst from flowering plants. Sterile. The sun is so bright. Washed out. In this tiny town in Uruguay, there is the slow growl of motorcycles, the hum of birds and swells of childish chatter...it seems like a ghost town. The sun is so bright. The sun bleaches out everything and the sandy streets reflect the paleness. Behind my back is the chocolate brow expanse of the Rio del Plata. The wind plucks at the water gently folding the water over onto its self. [View Full Entry]

My dinner plate
My dinner plate
My parents always told me my Thanksgiving plate was too white...and this one is to, but this year it wasnīt my fault. I was one of the last to eat....and all the color had been eaten already
November 23, 2006 marked my second year abroad during a major American holiday...thanksgiving. The first was cute. It was back in ī02. There was a boy in a city in a country called Spain. I liked to kiss him. We made lasagna (my favorite food) and Carlos had weird "los mormones" statues which strangely looked like pilgrams....and NOT Mormons. We put candles next to the the lasagna, and Los Mormones next to the candles. We sat in Carlosīs kitchen and had my first Thanksgiving away from home....I fell in love with it....being away for Thanksgiving. I loved bringing a tradition of [View Full Entry]
