| 18th August 2007 jengles | awwwwww - From: Snow storm lizzzy you just made me teary eyed with that one! i know exactly the feeling you are describing. it is the feeling that used to well up in me every time it snowed and there was a shadow of a hope that we would get sent home from school. its something like elation. now i get an inkling of that feeling whenever there is a good thunderstorm! |
| 11th July 2007 mama | me, too! - From: Snow storm I feel the excitement!!! |
| 28th June 2007 Scott | Me too - From: ¿How Do you mate? I often want to run away and start a new life when I find myself in an interesting spot. I look in windows and imagine what life must be like for the people who's lives I'm glimpsing, and I wonder if that life could/would ever be mine. The answer is pretty much always no, but it puts me in a...special place to think about it. By the way, the picture of the boxes is rad. Way to capture natural light, and there is so much tone and texture, and your colors have awesome exposure. |
| 28th June 2007 josh elowsky | you vs rick steves - From: ¿How Do you mate? seriously lizzZ you need to publish your travel blog and get money to go to other places and write about them. especially this last entry with all of the play by play intermingled with the personal reflections on local interactions. you do good |
| 28th June 2007 valeriavine | lovely memories - From: ¿How Do you mate? Yes I felt that way too when I was in Montevideo. We also tried to get into Las Misiones but were very sad to see it closed like you had. I too took a photo of it closed as a very small concession for my thwarted efforts. chau |
| 28th June 2007 Auntie San | Mate - From: ¿How Do you mate? Now that's a title that catches the eye.. you have the power to shock and surprise.. great to read your blogs again, I've missed them! |
| 28th June 2007 mama | i'm sorry, so sorry... - From: ¿How Do you mate? to have marked you for life this way. i remember that day...thought you made a deliberately poor likeness of the apple so i would do one for you. but you are an artist in expressing yourself with words and photos. xx oo xx |

| 27th June 2007 A | empathy - From: Raindrops and sunshine Hi LizzZ, I was happy to see a new post from you pop up on Bloglines after a long break. In a brief fascination with BsAs, I ran across your blog some months ago and was taken by your ability to poetically turn a phrase, intentionally and otherwise (bad spelling can sometimes work out well!), and have been a reader since. You're living one of the many lives I wish I did live...the life I have is quite fine, but the realm of possibilities is large and there will always be more paths not taken than taken. While you don't know me from Adam, I know your through your writings - one of the sorta creepy but inevitable side effects of keeping a blog like this - so I find myself caring how you're doing. So here's a wish for you to find your way out of your current funk. Damn, the food sounds good. |
| 21st June 2007 Melinda111 | Dreams - From: Sugar Toes I had a dream that my dad got cancer. My brother called me and sighed "hi" and I asked "What's wrong?" He got angry with me because everyone in my family already knew that morning, yet it was night and I was just finding out... |
| 7th May 2007 Mama | just read it... - From: Things are changing Can't believe I'm just reading this. But I can't think of anything to add to what others have said. Hope the "blue funk" has passed. (not to be confused with the pink, glittery cloud Kittofer's birthday card referred to) |
| 6th April 2007 Auntie San | Heckling.... - From: A movie premier and squeezing into a little black dress Good things happen sometimes when you step out of your comfort Zone... Glad you got passes to the premier, sounds like you really enjoyed it, and you look great in the pics.. you have grown into a beautiful young woman Liz. Now, hope you get to teach English classes to Leo, he seems like such an interesting person. |
| 6th April 2007 LizzZ | dollar signs - From: A movie premier and squeezing into a little black dress scott, it is confusing to use the $ for pesos....but its what they use. For US dollars they use U$... clever, no? |
| 6th April 2007 toni | wowzah! - From: A movie premier and squeezing into a little black dress hot stuff! the dress was perfect ...so, what does the director look like? winkwink |
| 5th April 2007 mama | oh my gosh! - From: A movie premier and squeezing into a little black dress I laughed like only you can make me laugh!!!!! I can't keep from smiling! thank you- you made my day!!!!! |
| 5th April 2007 Scott | Movin' on up - From: A movie premier and squeezing into a little black dress That is great that you are starting to get more connected to the world you are interested in. Just remember, the beautiful people aren't really. Man cannot improve upon the beauty of nature, only mar it. But it sure can be fun to bob and weave through the busy streets of popular social sector. Enjoy it. PS - it is a confusing syntax error to precede an amount in pesos with a dollar sign |
| 22nd March 2007 Stayloose | Good Luck - From: Going home Good luck and take care. Home is simply a state of mind. If there is love and happiness anywhere can be home, no matter how temporary or impermanent. Returning with a positive mind is all you need. stayloose ben |

| 20th March 2007 Scott | ? - From: Going home I take dirty laundry across 1.5 continents and an ocean when I go to visit my mom. Great grandmothers do seem to have magical backyards, don't they? Are you sure you speak fluent Indianan? I was born and raised in Ohio, and I don't think I speak fluent Indianan. Travel safe, but not so much so that you don't have any adventurous fun. |
| 20th March 2007 LEW | Home - From: Going home Lizz, Those memories are yours forever go to Indiana and enjoy the moment add them to your memories it's never really goodbye. By the way please give them all a big hug for me. |

| 3rd January 2007 LEW | Thanksgiving! - From: How I said "Thank you" I remember the thanksgiving last year it was so much fun being with your friends here in Washington. But you are correct we all have to move on and away from the family that raised you. We arn't as fractured as you may think we all care for each other a great deal. |
| 3rd January 2007 LEW | Thanks! - From: 24 hours Lizzz, Thanks for bringing this portion of your adventure to life. |
| 17th December 2006 mark | - From: 24 hours such beautiful writing!!! |
| 30th November 2006 Scott | good to know - From: How I said "Thank you" it is great that you're building more/new family in new places. My mom and I cast off "family" thanksgiving years ago, but there was time where I had built my own little family and those were the best thanksgivings ever. I don't really go in for the hokey of Thanksgiving, but it is pretty rad to actually realize that you have something to be thankful for and have a chance to celebrate it. |
| 30th November 2006 toni | holiday - From: How I said "Thank you" its been awhile since i came here, to your travels and so there are a few things ive realized about it. 1-its really comforting 2-whenever and wherever you return to the states to do whatever you please, this is the most amazing resume ive ever read/seen. hopefully you'll stay in the written word. of course its more ... much more than just a resume... im jus sayin. 3-youre really great. and as trite as it may seem (being that we met so briefly and under stoopid circumstances) i MISS YOU! p.s. that polka'dotted dress is one hot number! |
| 29th November 2006 mark | hey stranger - From: How I said "Thank you" I´m sorry that this was a difficult thanksgiving for you, it is a hard time of the year for a lot of people. But if it makes you feel any better I think you deserve to be thankful for your skills as a writer. Good luck with everything. |
| 14th November 2006 Auntie Suzy | Your Family is Watching... - From: Its a little tough What's this all about? I'm trying to contact you and,... this is what I find... |
| 6th November 2006 Mary D. | Oh, yes, I read it. - From: Moving I read your "vision", written in our ledger at River House. You have done far better than the vision implied. So now I think it is great that you are writing another--newer--version of your vision. Then blast past that one, and the next one, and the next one.................. Love, M |

| 4th September 2006 rrruss | Differing perspectives - From: Making my pilgramage Love that comment about the "Grandmother". I guess we were lucky to be in town when something was actually going on. Funny how Lujan made BA feel like home for you whilst every time we explore somewhere new it makes us realise how much we look forward to moving out of the city and travelling again in December! |
| 29th August 2006 LEW E | The Girl Can Write - From: Making my pilgramage Lizzz, Your images are wonderful and your words as well. I especially like the one with you in it; great depth of field. The "Grandmother" line is so discriptive yet done with so few words. Best of all you are venturing out and finding where home is too. |

| 8th August 2006 los dos portenos | you are not alone - From: Giving me strength Don't worry. All my friends are in a similiar rut. We have been teaching for a while and we are simply exhausted. It is difficult going this long without a break from classes. If I could I would make you a mixed cd, but sadly my computer is no longer capable of such tasks. I will be trying to send you positive vibes though all day. |
| 7th August 2006 MAD_tour | Nice thoughts for ya - From: Giving me strength Heya being a traveller, is no holiday, it´s a journey. Tell Lew his flower is beautiful.. Love, Auntie San |

| 19th July 2006 toni | another tongue - From: The simple kindness of strangers how come at the point where you have to defend yourself all vocabulary slips from your mind - you know at the point when you need your brain to be the sharpest it turns to mush and you feel yourself revert back to how you got stuff @ 2yrs old. don't worry the same thing happened to me in italy. i'm glad you got positive reinforcement the next day...speaking of reverting back to childhood. in my dream last night i was on the highway and a baby got out of a car that was stalled and started walking around not getting hit and then got into another car and started driving the wrong way and the cop car that was coming for the stalled car almost hit the baby car and then i was in the guest audience watching this action on a big screen for america's funniest home videos and everyone was laughing but it was not funny at all. freaked me out!! well, take care. |
| 19th July 2006 GARY | GOOD FOR YOU - From: The simple kindness of strangers YOU LEARNED TO PICK YOURSELF UP AND GO ON. THAT IS GREAT. YOU ARE GUTSY TO HAVE ARGUED WITH THE DRIVER. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE FIGURED IT WAS NO USE AT THE BEGINNING. IN THE SCHEME OF LIFE MAYBE HE BOUGHT MEDICINE FOR A SICK CHILD WITH THE 50 PESOS. HANG IN THERE. |
| 17th July 2006 los dos portenos | I want context - From: Tierra Santa Sorry to keep doing this to you but I need more info about this, I mean what was it like kicking it with Jesus, was he in a good mood, did he do and water into wine action, did he condemn anything while you were there, what were his thoughts on the situation in Isreal or the world cup for that matter. Tell the truth, you got stoned together didn´t you. |
| 15th July 2006 Scott | lh - From: Dreaming of Buenos Aires I love that the thought entered your head that the dream might be bait in some sort of trap. That would not occur to many people. I can't help picturing some sort of evil genius implanting dreams in your head, and then when you go to the place, when you are walking down some interesting looking alley, he drops a giant mason jar on you, and then puts you on a shelf in his lab. But I am not sure that I agree that "regular" people (what ever those are) don't make great photo subjects. |
| 15th July 2006 Auntie San | TV - From: Dreaming of Buenos Aires TV can be a good tool in learning a language. Watching the "telenovelas" (soap operas) with my peruvian mama helped me learn Spanish. The simple language is easier to understand.. cartoons can be good too. |
| 15th July 2006 adriana mouzo | Boedo? - From: Dreaming of Buenos Aires The way you describe Boedo ,make me think about going there!!!Thanks....and sorry abot the taxi gay...really sorry!!! |
| 14th July 2006 los dos portenos | Holy Shit - From: Golden Days I have multiple comments, first of all I am so sorry that you got robbed by the evil taxi driver. People like that deserve to get judo kicked in the face and the tomahawk chopped in their groins. Speaking of groins, how did your homeboys here wear falsies. I don't understand? What do they do with the real package? I also don't understand why there are zero jewish deli's in this city? What is that about. |

It is somewhat ironic though that despite the fact that we both live here we still ended up meeting in the most touristy room in all of Argentina. Tell your friends that I am sorry that I didn't make more of an effort to meet them as well. Suerte |

Second of all, if you are anything like me whenever you go to the control panel of your blog and see that you have a new comment you get a little excited as it means "hey somebody is actually reading this." You know that feeling? Well that is how you should feel now because I have read this entry, I have understood it, and I have enjoyed it. Check, check and check. |

| 11th April 2006 Scott | $<@ - From: Things are changing Yo, if it's easier for everyone else, then you'll have gained the most when all is done. As far as being a needy person surounded by needier people, well it should: a.) help to make you more self reliant, b.) show you the view from the other side, c.) lead to new insights and opportunities for different kinds of relationships. Next time your feeling down and out, get a bottle of something tasty to uplift the spirit, go somewhere beautiful (I find water works best), drink, be and soak it up. And personally, nothing helps me get my head in order like taking pictures. As for the whole alien thing, well when I think of aliens in this country, I think of people who had the most (economically) choice portions of their country forceably annexed by our country, who are trying to bring some of that wealth back home. You, however, are (as far as I can tell) a soul searching young woman out looking for what distant lands and foriegn cultures have to teach, show and offer you. It hardly seems to be the same game. Whatever the case, may your days get brighter despite the comming of winter, and may you find at least a little of what your looking for. |

| 6th April 2006 LEW E | LIKE THE PLAN - From: Things are changing Lizzz, Sounds like there are plenty of Argentineans who want to learn English; glad to hear you have decided to stay and teach. Is there a way to establish a work permit? Sounds like you are going to make Argentina home for awhile and tour Columbia; this is a real positive step so don't doubt your self-worth. As you teach you will befriend and influence many people; you have so much to teach and your teaching style is marvelous; should be proud of your accomplishments. At least someone has identified the adjustment stages so you know what to expect. If you need someone to talk to Lizz I'm here so call anytime. Love Lew Dad |

| 5th April 2006 Jonesface | a rainbow is just a bunch of colors - From: Things are changing So I dont want to get you any more down than you already are but arent you a legal immigrant who is only working illegally? I mean, it sounds like your really excited about being an alien so i hope im wrong here. And maybe everyone else is having an "easy" time because they are not there to experience things as completely as you are. Lizzz, try to make this new world yours. The market on the corner, the movie theatre in the mall, your favorite bar, these things are your world now. Forget about home. nothing changes back home. home will be the same when you decide to return, and when you do, then the culture shock really kicks in. Everything you need, you have... |

| 21st March 2006 LEW E | Blurring Art - From: Learning to laugh out loud. How are you achieving this? Just keeping the flash off and accepting the low shutter speed? Again, looks great and it tells the story in blurred motion. You have picked the correct media, black and white to express this; color could be overwhelming. |
| 21st March 2006 LEW E | Politics - From: Being thoughtful. You were correct in exploring the history of the coup and not participating in re-enactments. Nice sun set Jenni's image good side light; black and white works really well in this setting. |

| 13th March 2006 paul | - From: Reflextion I agree about the hostels. I prefeer to rent my own apartment. I did that in january. I contrated Stay in Buenos Aires http://www.stayinbuenosaires.com and I rented an equiped apartment. It was very easy and without burocracy that you imagine for renting an apartment. They also offer a complete source of services for traveller. The prices are not expensive becouse the service is really great. And Argentina is a very cheap country for travellers becouse of the change dollar-peso. |
| 13th March 2006 Cali | Autonomy - From: Reflextion Lizzz...don't let them remove your autonomy - your right to teach in your own style.... And, your postings are much appreciated, since I didn't respond to that earlier. As I've said before, I appreciate being able to live vicariously through your insightful entries! luv, cali |

| 10th March 2006 Vanessa Van Divier | PeaceSign - From: Fancy Cinemas and Trees Lizzz- Hello Lizzz, you are so far away and yet everything looks vaguely familiar. Like a big city. Well you are in a big city. Looks nothing like Cairo, also a big city. Actually, it's one of the biggest cities! Really, the only traveling I've done: Egypt. I amso far from you. I am living in Seattle, going to graduate school and studying harder than I've ever studied. The quarter ends tomorow. Hopefully I will go to Olympia and get it on, with you-know-who. This is the first blog I've read that actually makes sense, many things people write in blogs are pointless and pitiful and there is no reason why they couldn't have just written a few crappy emails. But you are so far away, this blog makes sense. Alright, well I am off to class. Miss you- xoxo, v |
