For our last full day in America we thought we would explore some of the beaches. First stop, 40 mins away was Liz's first choice - Malibu beach. We parked up, walked down through some marshland and onto the beach - It was practically deserted, We could have sunbathed and had the whole beach to ourselves! Liz & Nige paddled but myself & Andy bottled it, it looked freezing! Next up was Venice beach - A favourite of Nigel's, This was 15 mins down the road and absolutely heaving, we stopped in a bar for a drink and of course some people watching, we could have sat there all day taking in the various sights, We then walked up the promenade and on to Muscle Beach, and then the skate park where MTV was getting ready ... read more

Had a real good lay in today - Up at 9:30, by 11 we were on our way to Long Beach for the afternoon. We put the roof down but Liz was chilly so Nige being the poser he is gave her his t-shirt, so he was cruising the interstate bear chested! (Not a good idea when you have a chest infection!!) A lorry driver kept waving at us, so Myself & Liz gestured at him to pull his horn - which he did - so we all gave him a little cheer! We parked up at Rainbow Harbor and took a walk along the harbor front passing the shops and restaurants. The Queen Mary is docked opposite so a few photo opportunities were taken, we spotted a couple of seals in the water too, then ... read more

We were on the road by 9am this morning for our 2 hour journey to LA. We stopped about half way at a place called Laguna beach and got a drink then headed straight for the Hollywood sign - Nige had looked up a way of getting as close as possible so we thought we would take our chances and follow the directions. It was through really narrow twisting streets, and as we approached, Liz even got out her make up to slap on her face - all for the hollywood sign! Some of the corners we could barely get the car round, a short while later we arrived. We jumped out and were pretty much the only people there so played around with the camera as the pics will show! We found a much easier ... read more

After breakfast we headed to San Diego zoo for the day, as soon as we got in, a tour bus was leaving that takes you round the zoo on a half hour trip showing you the main attractions so we jumped on it and took the tour. As soon as we returned to the start point we decided the parts we wanted to see and headed in those directions. First up was the Lions and pandas, then the polar bears and hippos- we then thought we would take the 'Skyfari' (cable car) back down - we got on working out the weight limit at just about dead on! The minute they closed the gates and we moved - Liz & Andy both said they wanted to get off but the employee just said a firm 'NO' ... read more

San Diego

Some of us were up at 5:45 this morning, showered, packed up and car loaded, others eventually surfaced at 7am!! By 7:45 we were saying our farewells to Keith and Sylvia and on our way to our next state. We had to stop down the road to collect the tubing pictures and then start our 6 hour journey. We left with the roof down thinking we would probably have to put it up at some point. 2 hours in we stopped for a drink at Gila Bend, then another 2 hours passed and another stop for food at Yuma it was soooo hot. Before we left myself and Liz took a quick toilet break - As I was just finishing up I thought I heard someone saying monty, monty - When I came out the cubicle, ... read more

We was up by 7am, loaded our cool boxes with food and drink and 45 minutes later was on our way to breakfast at a 5 & Diner, this is a typical 50's style diner, the decor is all from the 50's, the music is from the 50's and some of the tables even have their own little juke boxes! We filled ourselves up ready for our little adventure that lay ahead! Another half hour or so and we arrived at the salt river tubing centre, Liz had started to change her mind, and this reminded me of my Mum a couple of years back who we practically had to drag there yet in the end she loved it. We hired our tubes, jumped on the bus that takes us to the higher elevation and began ... read more

We had a free day today to take at our own leisure, Therefore thought we would head to the shops for the morning, We had a good look around the larger department stores, but didn't really come away with too much. It was then off to 'Rubio's' for lunch, now we was introduced to this a couple of years back by Keith, its basically a fast food Mexican chain, but it is really good. We followed Keiths directions, and ended up in a huge area full of shops and restaurants but no sign of a Rubio's. As we were driving around the car park, we noticed a security guy driving in the other lane, so as we approached him, Nige wound down his window and asked if there was a Rubio's near by. His reply? 'Follow ... read more

Nige, Andy & Keith were up at the crack of dawn to hike 'Lone Mountain' a couple of miles from Keith & Sylvia's. Myself & Liz cooked perfect poached eggs on toast - Definitely going to get us one of those gadgets! We then thought we would take the Mustang for a spin as Liz wanted to drive it, so we wrote a note to leave for when they returned, and were about to leave as they came back, totally sweaty! We continued on our expedition, put the roof down and drove around the estate, then stumbled across the entrance to Lone Mountain - So Liz thought it would be funny if we attempted to hike it!! Off we went in the heat, with only murray mints and a pack of fags as our supplies! And ... read more

Yippee I got my lay in today. 9am!! I rose out of bed just as Keith, Nige, Liz & Andy were heading out to Walmart to grab some food for our BBQ tonight. I spent the morning relaxing by the pool or gossiping about the likes of Lost & 24 with Sylvia! They returned about lunchtime, and I was joined by Liz and Nige by the pool, The temperature was about 85, but the pool was quite cold - however Nige still got in and Liz managed to get herself into a ring float. Andy had caught the sun so much yesterday that he just stayed in the shade today. I made a pact with Liz that I would get in if she did, her attempt stopped at floating in the ring. Well me being me, ... read more

Another early start - When will I get a lay in!! Up at 06:45, and in the car by 07:15 towards Mcdonalds Ranch for Liz & Nigels horse riding trip. Myself and Andy decided it wasn't our thing! Nige was first to mount his horse 'Rodeo' and Liz was next up onto 'Patches' They got accustomed to what would be their new found friends for the next hour, and off they trotted! Myself and Andy stayed in the area and had a wander around the ranch grounds. Even getting mildly attacked by the local dogs!! I then shaded under a tree, whilst Andy took some photos of the surroundings. An hour later Liz and Nige returned, with huge smiles on their faces. They both really enjoyed it. Even the part where the guide got their horses ... read more
