Been a long time once again, but the update you all have been waiting for, Bill and Louise in Paris. We met in the airport on a Thursday morning. Being in the European Union, I didn't have to go through customs and my passport never got stamped. Besides being disappointed about that, I was afraid I was in the country illegally because of the uptight security I am used to from the United States, but apparently it works a lot differently over here. Once I got over that, I was of course excited to see the parents! Mr. Hery was very sick and seemed to have caught an awful cold/pneumonia type sickness 24 hours before the trip, poor guy. We made it to our hotel and Dad decided to rest up while Mom and I went ... read more

Hey fans! ( Ive always wants to say that)... A little update on life and travels. I finished up my vacation in Malaga by viewing all the sites of Semana Santa and celebrating vacation with the return of some friends from their various trips. I also went to Granada for a day to check that city out... Semana Santa is the week before easter. Spain is super Catholic so obviously they go insane over this week. Malaga is one of the most celebrated city's during this week. The streets were packed and over 9 parades are scheduled each day. The buses cannot run their regular route, and the stores all have strange hours. The streets are lined with bleachers and people pay 300 euros a day to "rent" a seat and see the parades. Antonio Banderas, ... read more

We week of March 16-22 is Semana Santa, and also my spring break. Many of my friends were traveling all round Spain, Europe and Africa... but in order to save money and to see the sights of Malaga and around i decided to stay local. I have some great pictures of the festivals and parades in Malaga but once this week is over, I will post all of those together. I took two day trips, one to Mijas and the other to Benalmadena.. two places close to Malaga. Mijas: March 17 Mijas is this little village about an hour trip from Malaga. They are famous for having the only square bull ring in Spain and also for their Andalucian Donkey taxis. My friend Kat and a friend of hers from home all decided the donkey ride ... read more

Alix and I took the journey from Madrid to Malaga on Monday March 3rd. We were both very tired form traveling, and Alix from the time change so we were very excited to hit land. While in the city that week Alix and I saw some touristy things that I haven't gotten a chance to see, and some others thats I loved so much I had to show her. Alix stayed on my blowup mattress in my apartment and while I was in class got to know my roommates. Considering the huge language barrier they got along great and Alix was more then i could have ever asked for. While she was here it opened my eyes to how lucky I am to be in Spain this semester and how beautiful the place is. I loved ... read more

Sorry it has taken me so long to update, times fly when it is 80 degrees everyday and you live 10 min, from the beach. A couple of weekends ago I went to Madrid for a couple of days and then to Toledo, a small village about an hour from there. I got a late night flight into the city and met a friend from Roanoke, Jaclyn, who is studying in Sevilla and her roommate Leah (from Natick), at a hotel just outside the city. As soon as we all got settled, and took nice hot showers because in malaga and sevilla we have freeezing ones everyday, we decided to venture out on the Madrid nightlife. We had dinner at this little place and got scammed a bit from being led by Frommers Guide to Madrid. ... read more

Life in Spain sure is different. Classes start on Monday the 25th, but not really until March 31, and after that we can switch around until the 28 of April (Just in Case...). I have already picked mine and had them approved by Roanoke (thank god!). I have no class on Monday or Friday, so anyone who would like visit... come during one of my many 4 day weekends. I have gotten to know my roommates a bit more. Both of them are from Spain, about 2 hours away from here in different cities in the Costa del Sol. Unfortunately i cannot really understand what they are saying most of the time because they speak with a heavy Andalucian accent, where they speak as if they have taken speed, do not pronounce their syllables and the ... read more

Yesterday my friends and I went to Ronda, Spain. The day started out with me packing up all of my things to move to my new (and permanent) apartment. My friend Willem and I then got on the bus (number 8, the favorite) to head towards the train. Our bus driver was obviously in Spain mode and decided he was going to take his time getting to the stop. When we finally got there, we had to run to the train station and got there 30 seconds late, just in time to see the train leave. We had 30 min before the train had to leave, so we headed to get some coffee. This little hole in the wall place looked sketchy, but simple enough and we sat down. They gave us two cups of coffee, ... read more

My mom and I arrived here on February 2nd, after a long adventure traveling. We flew from Boston to Washington DC, then to Madrid and eventually Malaga. Once we first arrived at our hotel in the city, we were told the pipes had exploded in our room and we were to be staying in a hotel across the street: first setback. Once we arrived however, we were pleased to find it was a very modern room with a beautiful view, see the pictures I have uploaded. There was a pool on top of the hotel, but the weather is only 50-70 degrees everyday. You would think it was snowing and negative temperature by the way the Spaniard dress here during the day. Mom and I looked very out of place and did not pack correctly. ... read more
