Ephesus
Ephesus
Ancient Greek city, and then really important during the Roman Empire. This place is really huge and has so much history.
My last few days in Turkey were really nice. I headed north to see the ancient city of Ephesus and that was really cool. You are allowed to wander around and there are tons of really beautiful, well carved things all over. Its a pretty trippy place...you can picture people living there a few thousand years ago and imagine a little what their lives were like. From Ephesus I headed back to Istanbul and spent my last day in Turkey just wandering around and eating my last cucumber and bread breakfast and eggplant moussaka lunch. I spent awhile sitting at the [View Full Entry]

I really liked Eastern Turkey...but was fındıng ıt hard to meet other travelers sınce ıt was off season. I have decıded to come back and explore that part of Turkey wıth a frıend at a later date....but for thıs trıp I decıded ıt was tıme to head West (back to where wearıng a t-shırt wasnt makıng a scene and beıng relatıvely blond wouldnt cause people to turn all the way around and stare everywhere you walked). I took a 16 hour bus rıde from east to west and ended up on the Meddıteranıan c [View Full Entry]

Turkey is pretty awesome. I dont think I have ever met a friendlier group of people. They are so welcoming and its pretty hard to get use to. I am use to thinking people are trying to rip me off all the time...but many of the people I met here just want to talk to you and have a tea. Istanbul was cool...but not as exotic or cheap as I thought it would be. Maybe that is because I spent most of my time in the touristy area. I spent most of the days just exploring the bazzar and talking to [View Full Entry]

The jungle was awesome. I had gone before with the Oasis group and had loved it, but this was so different from the first time that I went. We saw tons of big animals (sloths, monkeys, camin, lots of birds) and it seemed like we were much deeper in the jungle. The highlights... - seeing 4 different types of monkeys on our first boat ride. - seeing sloths! - our guide jumping on a camins back..like the crocodile hunter - catching piranhas - swimming in tha lakes - making yuka bread - yelling at wasp and hearing them ´march´inside of their [View Full Entry]

We went back to the hostel we were suppose to work at and helped them for a big paty. Jen and I had been eating the same food for days...so everything we cooked seemed so fancy to us.
The last week in the hostel we helped with the garden and getting the new bathroom ready. The original hostel that we were suppose to work at said they needed help with a big group so we headed over to them for a night and got to see what we could have been doing. Jen and I peeled potatoes, chopped heads and scales off of fish, and were waitresses. We had a great time and the women in charge gave us a free jungle trip for helping! After that we headed back to Fernando's hostel. We helped for a few more [View Full Entry]

Supersized leaves were everywhere as we hiked to the waterfall.
Banos is a really cool city in southern Ecuador that has a great view of a volcano, lots of thermal baths, and very cool waterfalls. Everyone we have met so far has been telling us how green Ecuador is…and they were right. Within minutes of crossing the Peruvian border things got much greener. In Banos we were able to do a little hike to the Devil’s Cauldron waterfall and I felt like I was in a jungle. Everything was so green and there were huge leaves and plants all around. The other big thing we did while we were in Banos [View Full Entry]
