Good Friday and Easter Saturday in Prague Because we enjoyed the company and the great depth of knowledge of our new best friend and guide, Slavek, we booked him again for Good Friday. We met him at our hotel in the morning and headed off to explore the old town and the Jewish quarter. When you learn more and more of what life was like under the previous communist regime, you say your prayers of thanks for what our life is like back home. It really is quite incomprehensible that it was only a few years ago that life for the Czech’s changed so dramatically. As Slavek puts it, on the 17th of November 1989, they were reborn. Slavek took us to various memorials that commemorate the struggle for democracy over the years and explained in ... read more

Following on from yesterday….. and so rest we did. Nik went to bed about 2.00pm with strict instructions to be woken about 3.30pm so we could get organised and go out for an early dinner. Layni headed off not long after and then Debs and I decided that a ‘nana nap’ was a good idea. We woke up about 7.00pm and woke the kids with an option to go out for dinner or stay sleeping… sleep won out for everyone. Layni woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed about 1.00am and could not go back to sleep. Debsy stayed up with her for about three hours and then we did the tag team and she went back to bed. By about 5.00am we were all up, wide awake to see snow on all the roofs. We ... read more

Arrived safe and sound, Hi guys, we have arrived in Prague, safe and sound but a bit bloody cold. We had a very long trip, just over 34 hours in fact. Have to say the kids were absolutely fantastic. Deb’s sister Lil very kindly drove us to Brisbane airport after a couple of nights with Debs Dad, Buster. It was a great chance to catch up with him and Debs family. We left Brisbane and flew to Singapore and made the most of the movies on demand feature which has been in for some time but we had not used it before. Got to Singapore with a few square eyes amongst us and we had a couple of hours to wait till we boarded our place for Amsterdam and onto Prague. Deb and the girls made ... read more

We have been very fortunate to be able to charter a Hanse 400. The Hanse 400 is a strong, well built and easy to sail yacht that we have narrowed down to being a boat that, if the circumstances permitted, we would consider buying. There are a few Hanse yachts available for charter in Croatia and we have been fortunate to cross paths with Eldin of A2A Yacht Charter Brokers and he has been fantastic in arranging our charter through Asta Yachting in Croatia. Have to say that Eldin has been a great source of information about Croatia and could not have been more helpful. The yacht has three cabins, a spacious cockpit, and for the cruising mode we are going in, has a self tacking head sail. So while I can lay back and soak ... read more

We are heading off next Tuesday, flying out from Brisbane to Prague, via Singapore and Amsterdam. We have been pretty busy, getting ready, packing for the four of us, Dad, Mum, a teenage daughter and our youngest daughter who is just 8. In reality we have to pack for a couple of seasons, although it is Spring in Europe, we are heading to Prague first and then to Nuremberg in Germany, catching up with friends before we fly down to Dubrovnik on the 30th of March. Hopefully, we might leave the cold behind once we hit Croatia and it continues to warm up for when we pick our yacht up in Sukosan on the 4th of April for a month of Cruising the Dalmation Coast. We will have to wait and see. We take the yacht ... read more
