South Brittany - Concarneau to Belle Ille Well we ended up staying much, much longer in Concarneau than we had anticipated; simple reason was that we enjoyed the place so much. We were able to enjoy the Bastille Day Eve Celebrations, Nikki wanted to have her birthday here and we were finally able to catch up with John and Sue Allison from Swagman. We heard from the Tourist Info Office that the Concarnians (for want of a better word) always celebrate Bastille Day on the evening of the 13th of July and there were going to be bands and fireworks so that sounded pretty good to us so we decided to stay on for a bit longer. We had been making daily sojourns into the old town to listen to the buskers, buy ice creams and ... read more

North Brittany to South Brittany via the Channel du Four and the Raz de Sein. We left Guernsey on the 18th of June and had planned to sail down to St Quay as it offers all weather and tide access and we thought it was going to be a pretty easy place to hit the coast and then make our way along the North Brittany coast to West and then South Brittany. We had thought about going to St Malo which was further east but were a bit reticent for some reason, not quite sure why as we had been told by so many people how nice it was. I guess one of the main reasons was that St Quay was going to be a lot less distance to cover for Luke on his first ever ... read more

Through the Alderney Race and onto the Channel Islands. We left Cherbourg on the 28th of May, making sure we had got our tide times right to head down through the Alderney Race which is quite infamous for its rate of tidal streams that run between the island of Alderney and the mainland coast of France. We had to catch the tide as it turned toward the south and then go with this tide, hopefully all the way down to the Island of Guernsey and into the marina there called St Peter Port. RYA navigation courses highlight the areas of Cherbourg, Alderney, St Peter Port, Sark and St Helier on the Island of Jersey and we were looking forward to the challenge of getting the navigation right as if we got it wrong we were in ... read more

A very happy new year to everyone. We have purchased our new home for 2009, a yacht called Sunboy and we leave Australia on the 18 March to head to Hamble Le Rice, just south of Southampton in England where we begin a whole new adventure. At this point in time, we dont know exactly where we will head to for the northern european summer, whether it is up to the Baltic Sea or head south for Morocco, we will just wait and see. First off, we hope to spend a couple of months sailing around the south of England and then across to France and cruise around the Channel Islands and Brittany, we shall see. At this point in time, we are not sure how long we will be away for, that is in the ... read more

(B)Logging Off, For the carnival is over and we must say goodbye!!! We are sitting in Changi Airport at Singapore after a pretty reasonable flight from Amsterdam enroute to Brisbane (after a five hour layover!!). Thought it was an opportune time to post our last blog for our trip and let you know a bit about our last few days O/S. We had our last morning in Croatia having breakfast at our very nice hotel and another great feast was provided by our very gracious hosts. We had planned to leave relatively early to make sure we could find the airport at Zagreb without stressing about running out of time, take the rent a car back and make our flight. We had found the directions to the motorway the previous day so getting from the hotel ... read more

Hello from Samobor, (V.O.T.I.T.C to the west of Zagreb, north Croatia) Hello Blogettes, I am sitting up in the very comfortable family apartment at the Hotel Livadic in the township of Samobor, details of which will follow in due course. Well after the Croatian National Army and Navy were called in to get me off the boat, we made land again and settled up our boat account and took stock of the fact that somehow we had to make our way from Sukosan to Zagreb where we had to catch a flight on the 14th of May, back to Amsterdam via Paris. That was five days away and apart from thinking about going to the Plitviska National Park, we had no idea whatsoever as to what we were going to do for the next few days. ... read more

Well hello Blogettes. It is with a heavy heart that I am writing my blog this morning. It is the morning of the 10th of May and we are sitting inside the Astra Yachting section of Marina Dalmajica and we have to leave the boat in a couple of hours. We arrived here last night, opting to have our last night in the marina; get the boat fuelled up and fill her with water and have a chance to get packed up, and organised in some form of orderly fashion rather than a last minute panic and *^$% fight. Taking up from Split; the washing wasn’t finished until 12.00 noon but it was worth the wait. Nice clear plastic wrapped packages of sparkling fresh and clean clothes were picked up from the laundrette and I’ve got ... read more

Blogging from Split 5 May 2008 Hello everyone, we are currently in the ACI Marina in Split Harbour having arrived here yesterday afternoon. Taking up from our last blog, we bunkered down in Vbroska for the morning and inquired about hiring some bikes from our mate the Harbourmaster who the cruising guide advised was the friendliest and most helpful harbourmaster in all of Croatia - the guide wasn’t wrong. Nothing was a problem to him and shortly after, the bike shop owner arrived at the boat and 4 high quality mountain bikes were ours from 12 noon to 8.00pm for 40 Kuna each (about $10.00). We loaded up the back pack with some water, bananas and choc chip biscuits then after a couple of practice circuits around the road near the boat, we headed off. The ... read more

Dobra Utero (Good morning) from Vbroska on the island of Hvar Fortunate for us, we have been able to find some more internet connection relatively quickly compared to our previous island hideaways. We are now tucked in nice and secure against the town wharf of a little village called Vbroska which is on the north side of the Island of Hvar. As the regular blog readers know, we last blogged from Korcula Old Town and were making plans to leave the next day being the 26th of April. There were murmurings amongst the crew that another day in Korcula might be in order so we decided to let Mother Nature take her course and see what the actual visible weather and weather forecasts brought in the morning. We awoke to a howling north easter and decided ... read more

Hello from Korcula Town on Korcula Island Sorry we have not blogged for some time, I think in fact it is the longest blog break of the trip. Simple fact is we have been unable to get decent internet access since we left Trogir and arrived in Korcula Town. So, just to jog your blog memories, we last wrote to you at length from Trogir which was on the mainland just north of Split. Our last day/night in Trogir was spent bunkering down out of the cold and wet and we left very early on the morning of the 16th heading south for the Island of Vis. The girls were still asleep and Debs and I got underway as we had a 30+ nautical mile passage ahead of us. We had a terrible fright with a ... read more
